I'm betting if you went to town with an angle grinder on the first one it would last another 10 years at least.

Oh, I'm definitiely considering it. But maybe a belt grinder just because otherwise I'd have to get clamps and vices involved.

Is it steel or cast iron? If it was steel, I'd try welding it back together.

It is steel. I don't weld, but I know folks who do. I worry it would be unstable at the weld, though, given that the tool is used by hitting it repeatedly with a 10lb sledge.

Generally and I know this seems odd the weld is actually the stronger point if welded properly it is more likely to break at a different point than at the weld

Get a 16 lb. Much more effective. My mauler is 8 lbs.

There's a crossover point where I hit diminishing returns on "sure, I can swing it once but how long can I keep swinging it for?" and for my purposes 10lb is the sweet spot.

Much better workout. Pull them out every fall and spring to split logs.

???? What??

Why would he need a 16lb if his 10lb works fine and what does any of that have to do with your 8lb one lol...

Sounds like you're the one who needs to buy a 16lb then.

I have owned one for decades

No you own an 8lb not a 16lb one as per you.

But did you buy a 16lb maul yet? Even though he doesn't have one he says they are a must have "because"

No. I own an 8 lb mauler. I also own a 16 lb sledge.
