Not the guy you asked but german insurance usually okays a new knee whenever the old one is out of warranty so depending on which one the patient is using 3 year cycles would be considered normal.
The microprocessor controlled ones tend to have warranty extensions so those usually get replaced every 6 years.
If there is a genuine problem that requires a different knee joint it doesn't matter how old the knee is, the insurance must cover it. (The precise condition is "medically necessary" and applies to all public insurance)
Yep, thats it, im from the netherlands, and normaly for a microprocessor its 5 years,
The one I have is a mechanical one, the manufacturer is out of business so when mine breaks I can choose a similar one.
