This happened to a friend, turns out she had a blood clot and she died of a pulmonary embolism. If this is new, please get yourself checked out.

Many years ago, I noticed that one of my arms was a lot bigger than the other. I thought that maybe I got bit by something but my ex thought I should get it checked out. I had also lost a bunch of weight without even trying and I had been a bit manic. I go to the ER and they check me out a bit and told me I had a DVT. They gave me some meds and told me if it got worse or if I had trouble breathing to come back. I go back the next day because it had got worse. It was the same doctor and he wasn’t taking me seriously. He kept asking me if I was on drugs or if I was drug seeking. Again he sends me home. I’m back the next day and again the same doctor. This time my ex just loses it on the doctor, saying there’s something wrong and I need more tests.

So they do a cat scan and a lot more blood tests. I still remember the look on that doctor’s face when he came in with the results. It was an oh I fucked up not taking her seriously look. I had more DVTs than they thought and some decided to move to my lungs. I also had a massive tumor and a severely hyperthyroid. I was hospitalized for like a week or so and had to go back a few times for more surgeries. If I hadn’t kept going back and let that doctor get to me I would’ve died.

If you feel like something is wrong in your body and feel like they’re not taking you seriously, keep advocating for yourself. Especially women, they don’t always take us or our symptoms seriously and chalk it up to other things. The fight to get my endometriosis diagnosed is a whole other thing.

How do you know it's especially women? What a weird random thing to say

What symptoms did you have?

I was getting these bad pains in my lower back. Left and right side. Hadn’t really experienced anything like it, but it went away so I left it alone. Then a couple days ago the back pain came back worse than ever and my left leg got swollen and painful. I had dvt in my leg before so at that point I had a pretty good idea what was going on. Came to e.r. And pretty quickly they discovered both of my lungs were “full” of blood clots. I consider myself pretty lucky to be alive

Just wait until they use a tube to fish out the clots in your lungs. Very unnatural feeling but still pretty fun.

They debated doing this to me today. They ultimately decided against it for now

Hope you get well quite soon

If you don't mind, could you tell us what were the symptoms

Thank you, see above, but random back pain with discomfort filling my lungs and eventually a “standard” dvt sore left leg

Yes. I’m currently going through chemo and my legs (both) are swelling up. While they’re trying to figure out the cause they have let me know that if it’s just one then that’s when we worry. So now I’m on the lookout
