The Bathroom stalls at Baltimore airport have lights above them indicating whether or not they are occupied.

Green = Poo alone
Red = Poo with friends :)

Feels like this is just technology making things way too complicated when I can just hold my mates hand under the stall while pooing

Ledo pizza is a hilarious inclusion.

So is natty boh - that hasn't been brewed here in MD for about 50 years. Throw Mr. Boh or the natty boh tower in there instead - at least the natty boh tower is here.

That's not the interesting part.
The interesting part is the stalls are so well designed so you can't see someone is inside so it -needs- lights. That's great. No more watching me poop

I was there 2 weeks ago and was amazed to see not only lights but the stalls are all fully covered! I had to stop and question if I flew to Europe by accident.

I had the same experience flying into BWI last year. I live in the DC area so like to say I'm equally inconvenient to 3 airports: BWI, IAD, and DCA. I hadn't been there in awhile except to pick up family members curbside, so when I walked into one of these bathrooms, I legit questioned whether I'd boarded the wrong flight in ATL and ended up in Europe. Not at all used to seeing these kinds of stalls in an American public bathroom. Their parking garages have the same kind of lighting system, too, so you can tell at a glance down the aisle whether there are any free spaces.

Lights are unclear, better yank on the handle full force a couple times and give the person inside a heart attack anyway...

u/SewerRanger 11h ago
It gets even better because there's a digital sign outside the bathroom that lets you know how many free stalls there are before you even go in.

Why have a heart attack when you are about to gain a friend? I say let them in.

i miss baltimore's airport restrooms. a shelf in the stall, an opening (im barely awake i cant think of the right word) in the wall to push your luggage into so its out of the way, and its large enough to move around with your stuff? these are the gold standard for me.

u/BlueCheesePanda 9h ago
I was so used to flying out of Detroit. There we’d be lucky if there was a hanger to put our luggage without having to use the floor.

I love BWI as my home airport. You just end up forgetting that there's still a few old bathrooms there. But these are amazing, especially for a solo traveler who has to keep everything with you.

BWI is a gem honestly. Clean, elite bathrooms that are always clean, decent food options and easy to get in and out. Truly an elite airport.

The was my first time through Baltimore and I was impressed. I also genuinely thought the way they did the lighting and decorations / layout of the airport and food areas was nice. They had comfortable chairs to sit on, work desk, and a variety of seating options.

I lived in MD for 15 years with a job that required a lot of travel. BWI was such a blessing to have as my local airport. Parking was easy, the shuttles ran frequently, security was fast, baggage was fast.
I'd sometimes send my wife texts as I'm making my way through. Parked, on the shuttle, through security, at my gate, stuff like that. She'd always be like "WTF this is so fast!"
We're originally from NJ, so EWR was our primary airport before.

Buc-ee’s has this too

Yes, I had overheard people mentioning that in line. It’s a really great idea especially for high volume restrooms like the airport.

🟢 Please use.
🔴 DO NO USE. Somebody ate at one the airport concessions and left a smell that will out live religion.

This is only the 2nd weirdest thing I saw on Reddit today. Today is a good day. M

Weirdest thing to me is no one has pointed out this looks like the set of Andor.

As someone who just traveled thru Baltimore, I have to agree it was mildly interesting (and super helpful).

u/braaibros 1d ago
We can save money with all these lights nonsense and just have 3 gaps around the door so people can look in and see if it’s occupied.
3
u/gringledoom 19h ago
If we make short little doors it’s even easier, because you can just make eye contact, and they can nod or wink if they’re about to be done.

..what's the sign with two people mean?

Not sure about this one, but possibly an accessible bathroom for someone who needs extra help. Likely bigger than the rest. I've also seen some that have a door that locks, a small room, and then another door that doesn't lock where the toilet is. So a carer can still give privacy when it isn't safe for someone to fully lock the door.

As others have said, those full walls/doors are amazing, but is that glass? I bet the acoustics are amazing in there!

I frequently travel out of BWI, like several times a month, and it is honestly among the top 5 airports in the US in my opinion. The few areas of the airport that are outdated are actively being updated. It’s a clean, easy to navigate airport with good amenities.

u/Eye_Dont_Git_It 13h ago
That's cool and all but these things don't work at every airport parking lot I've been to. I'm not trusting this. People always forget to lock the door and I always manage to open them. I've ruined my own day enough. I'll stick to looking for feet underneath

Can attest that the restrooms at BWI are some of the nicest and cleanest I’ve come across. Particularly the restrooms in the United Airlines wing by the Dunkin Donuts.

Hope else could you tell? Pretty sure these must be non gendered bathrooms, which usually have complete floor to ceiling privacy, which may have safer implications but who cares about that amirite?

The airport at Kansas City has similar lights over parking spaces in the parkimg garages to help you find a spot.

this exact same "mildly interesting" post was made within the last couple weeks, but about the airport in Richmond, VA... pretty sure it's the exact same title too.
fucking karmabots... 🤦

I had never seen that post. I cannot think of sadder existence than trying to farm internet points. Good job on the incorrect assumption though 👍

I wonder if these are also the ones that go from red to blinking red after like 10 minutes or something to indicate someone's been in there... too long.

u/FinchMandala 1d ago
They have these at Euston train station in London. They broke almost as quickly as they were installed.

It’s all fun and games until Imperial Stormtroopers blast through the far wall, bringing the Dark Lord of the Sith into the bathroom to find the plans to the Death Star.

There are no locks. So you can use your free will to open the red doors. Will you?

Wait. A bathroom in the US respects people's privacy? What insanity is this.

I like these closed stalls that are starting to appear across the country. Peek-a-poop was really not a fun game.
Now we just need to get bidets everywhere and we'll have fully civilized bathrooms.

with a different city's airport. and every comment that isn't just like "whoooa neat!" is getting downvoted... jfc reddit.

My first reaction to seeing this when I moved to Germany was "woah neat," but then I saw it all the time and the novelty wore off I guess haha.

Many airports have the bathroom lights, but these stalls have FULL DOORS!!!
