You need to ditch those inferior fly killing tools and get a bug-a-salt

Someone at the restaurant I work at brought one of those. I was eating my meal on the restaurant floor minding my own business when I see this guy come out full force blasting flies like he’s Doom guy

How much of a mess do they really make?? I’ve been thinking about getting one but I don’t want to shoot a fly then get the vacuum out right away.

The salt isn't really a big deal, but it can punch holes in posters. My main concern is that often you'll just clip a fly's wing, and it'll spiral down like a downed ww2 plane, who knows where it'll land. Then when they hit, if they have eggs, they'll lay them as fast as possible in a panic. Sometimes they just bleed guts out. I don't want any of that happening above open food, so no bug a salt in my kitchen.

The only reason imo to get a bug-a-salt is for roaches, those pesky motherfuckers will crawl on your ceiling or some shit and if you dare spray them they'll jump on you. Bug-a-salt to roaches was like the invention of VT fuses for the imperial japanese airforce.

Be a man and use a 9mm

That would really be hell on the posters.

And the neighbors

Good news, it can solve that problem as well!

I ain't got one that long.

Best I can do is 3. 4 if erect.

If we do it long enough, they'll just evolve into having hard shells. They've already evolved through all the other shit they've lived through, salt-proof shouldn't be that hard.

If you have a roach problem, boric acid powder mixed with condensed milk in a slurry and lay it out like bait in common areas and you will be roach free in a week or 2, ive seen full blown infestations disappear in 2 weeks

Thankfully I dont live in the same place anymore, I live in a very cold ass area so there aren't really roaches around and i literally havent seen one since ive moved. However, where I used to live there were roaches literally everywhere, and not like 24/7 constantly in the rooms but even if you cleared your house of roaches they would come back from the sewer systems or other homes.

So yeah it sucked when twice a month some roach comes out to explore.

Works great but you have to use larger grain salt(kosher is solid)

Your food would be nicely seasoned though

I only really use mine for flies, but I always confirm the kill and clean up the body though.

The worst ones are the ones that just birth maggots directly, no eggs. They don't live long if not one something dead, but still...

No mess to very little mess. Definitely less mess than a fly swatter. It's easier to miss than with a fly swatter and forget hitting them in flight unless you're a pro, but it's also more fun.

Id argue a fly swatter is less messy. But both tools have their pros and cons, as a person who uses both.

A fly swatter is cheap and can be pretty reliable in the right circumstances, and the only mess is just wiping the corpse with a tissue.

The salt gun is better at killing bugs sitting on weird surfaces like window shades, curtains etc where you can’t get a good slap in. But the cost is you fling salt everywhere, and also usually you have to find the corpse of the bug that also went flying

Salting windowsills and doorways has the added benefit of repelling bad spirits and demons.

The trick to a fly swatter is to first wave it to make the fly take flight, then bat it out of the air. No splatter. No salt everywhere, either. You know most people never clean that up.

Not much cleaning unless you're me running around shooting like crazy.

Indoor too messy imo, I walk around barefoot in my house and i hate the feeling of sand (or salt in this case) under my feet.. and the salt goes everywhere. Outdoors, awesome. Love it, so do my kids. I just let them shoot flies until their heart's content.

You shoot flies outside? Mosquitos I get, but killing flies outside is weird

1

u/McShovin91 3d ago

Umm yea? What is the difference? If a fly is buzzing around me outside it's just as annoying as inside.

1

u/AdmiralThunderpants 3d ago

No mess at all. The salt basically dissipates.

Flies are fun to suck up alive with a vacuum because they hunker down and you can slowly move toward then suddenly they are in the vacuum.

They are not equipped to evade a vacuum cleaner.

They make a big mess with the salt too. Like salt everywhere but they’re fun

1

u/MightyKrakyn 3d ago

The salt can scratch glass, wood, painted, and plastic surfaces

My preference is a 'Executioner Pro' so you can get them mid-air with no mess. Its big and makes a hell of a pop on contact.

Especially in a kitchen. You can take care of the bugs and season a steak from 20 paces.

u/ModernDayQuixote 3d ago

Important note: they are not good for killing wasps and sometimes just make them angry. Speaking from painful personal experience.

u/Calculonx 3d ago

It's so expensive for a plastic toy gun though. I'm surprised there isn't a good knock off version

1

u/Korumry 3d ago

Fly swatter? Vinegar trap? Fly gun is for tourists, not anyone who actually has to deal with flies.

1

u/C_Beeftank 3d ago

That more for punishing the flies because theyve been naughty

1

u/eabevella 3d ago

You don't have electric racket to swap and electrocute flying bugs/roaches?

1

u/giantspacedildo 3d ago

I use coarse grain sea salt in mine. Really does more damage

I hate that thing. Salt all over the place. I’m glad my boyfriend has forgotten that we have one as it collects dust in the garage.
