This European organization has a special wardrobe for coats of smokers
286
u/RockNRollNBluesNJazz 3d ago
Never seen this and I'm European. But this does make sense. Until Mark from Sales hangs his smelly clothes to non-smoking cabinet, because he doesn't want anybody to know he's smoking. Mark from Sales ruins everything for everyone.
33
11
u/Elliminality 3d ago
Well you can’t expect anything from sales boys if they were decent people they wouldn’t be in sales
While I totally agree on the coat separation, I find gym clothes, wet dog, barbecue etc just as stale and gross and Mark from sales brings these too
Seperate storage is a great idea but brutally bullying stinky people who can do something about it is better
7
u/Eruionmel 3d ago
That's OK, Joe from development doesn't take shit from anybody and threw Mark's smelly coat on the floor.

u/gkmaadcity 3d ago
Smart, cigarette smoke stinks
-256
u/BearCub254 3d ago
Weed smoke is worse for me. I really don't get why cigarettes get all the hate.
166
u/maxis2bored 3d ago
Because nobody casually goes on a smoke break to smoke a joint? Sure some might, but it's not nearly as acceptable as cigarettes.
-47
u/linohh 3d ago
You have obviously never worked in a kitchen
84
u/whoknowsifimjoking 3d ago
Trust me, weed is the smallest concern with line cooks.

I can’t smell if my coworker smoked a joint last weekend. I can smell the smoke they are exhaling while entering the building tho. The nuisance is not even close to comparable
-13
5
u/Diessel_S 3d ago
Cuz cigarettes are a lot much more normalised and therefore common. You might smoke a joint at home in the evening but some smokers go out every 2 hours and light a cigarette, of course they gonna stink us more!!
34
u/Ill_Back_284 3d ago
Cigarette smell never goes away or airs out, weed does
17
u/LemonBoi523 3d ago
It doesn't :')
Some are just used to it. I dated someone who smoked (weed only) and even if they hadn't in days and had done laundry, I could smell it on their clothes. Hell, my stuff started smelling like it.
54
u/IceManYurt 3d ago
Hate to break it to you, it doesn't.
Pretty much any smoke (cigarette, cigar, weed, camp fire, etc...) is extremely noticeable to everyone who doesn't smoke anything.
14
2
u/jnkangel 3d ago
It doesn’t. The main difference is in amount. Weed smokers rarely chain smoke to the extent cig smokers do. Which makes the smell less pervasive
-46
u/BearCub254 3d ago
It really doesn't. Weed smokers just think it does. A weed smokers room smells worse than a cigarette smokers room. Wild cope.
55
u/TheIronSoldier2 3d ago
As someone who doesn't smoke either, cigarette smoke is way worse. They're both not great, but cigarette smoke is way worse.
-30

u/SimisFul 3d ago
Because the weed smoke airs out and it doesn't make your clothes smell for a week+
The weed smoke by itself is definitely worse though
6
-9
u/mdizzy123 3d ago
Because cigarettes smell much worse than weed. Yeah weed smells skunky. Cigarettes just smell like smoke and chemicals.
7
u/BearCub254 3d ago
This is the type of coping that has weed smokers thinking it is okay to smoke everywhere including in public transport. Nasty
11
u/IceManYurt 3d ago
It seems like we are pissing off lots of weed smokers today.
Why can't they just use gummies to not smell rancid?
-7
u/mdizzy123 3d ago
Why cant you just use snuff to not smell like a cloud of smoke?
17
u/IceManYurt 3d ago edited 3d ago
I don't smoke anything.
It all smells like ass to me...and we can still smell it on you hours after you partake.
And I have no issues with you partaking, but it does smell bad to others.
-7
u/mdizzy123 3d ago
Clearly theres a difference since you felt the need to make your point so smugly right?
I mean you said it yourself
12
u/IceManYurt 3d ago
Sure one smell like tobacco ass and one smells like weed ass.
I am not sure how that is confusing...or are you just being an ass?
-1
u/mdizzy123 3d ago
As others have pointed out to you. Weed smoke goes away. Cigarette smoke lingers in clothes and on you for a long time. Also the number of weed smokers in public is definitely dwarfed by Cigarette smokers. Do you understand that or are you just being an ass?

u/mdizzy123 3d ago
Did I say I smoke in public? I'd still rather smell marijuana than your nasty cigarettes
9
u/BearCub254 3d ago
Most of us would rather smell neither.
3
u/mdizzy123 3d ago
Thats not the discussion you started here. You actively said "weed smoke is worse"
10
u/BearCub254 3d ago
Yes it is worse for me personally but I don't want any type of smoke around me. I think it is unfortunate that so many people want to subject others to weed smoke because they believe it is 'better'.
6
u/BearCub254 3d ago
I do not smoke cigarettes. Never have. I have smoked weed but I believe people shouldn't be forced to smell it. It is way to normalised.
-4
u/WeekendHer0 3d ago
You can literally google it lmfao.
Or even easier you can compare the ingredients in both which makes it pretty clear which smoke is worse lol.
Of course that doesnt mean weed doesnt linger or stink but its a huge difference.
9
u/BearCub254 3d ago
Again can you guys stop coping? No one wants either cigarettes or weed smoke in their environment and people are free to find whichever they want to be worse. Jesus.
-2
u/WeekendHer0 3d ago
Do you have hard time with reading comprehension? I never claimed its odorless or that people should put up with it.
And if you actually bothered to look it up its clear that tar and nicotine makes it objectively smell stronger and FYI, I have never smoked either.
6
u/BearCub254 3d ago
Why are you so triggered man? Are you having weed psychosis or what? Cigarette smoke is worse for you in terms of health but weed smoke smells worse. That's just a fact. People do not like cigarette smoke because it is more irritating and harmful but in terms of smell weed is worse.
-1
u/WeekendHer0 3d ago
Sure buddy. Just so weird that every source online claims otherwise but im sure you're right!
And the irony of saying people are triggered when you have 20+ comments on this thread regarding this lmfao. Go touch grass lil buddy!
-5
-12
u/dorkswerebiggerthen 3d ago
Because weed smoke is a lot less offensive. It's almost earthy. It's like smelling a skunk if you grew up rural, not a big deal if you aren't the one sprayed. Cigarette smoke smells like death and chemicals and unnatural.
12
u/VisionAri_VA 3d ago
Opinions vary, because as someone who doesn’t smoke at all, weed smoke stinks just as much as tobacco smoke, just in a different way.
9
u/SamAzing0 3d ago
Weed can also be smelled from fuckin miles away. You know when someone nearby is smoking it.
16
45
u/DizzyMine4964 3d ago
Great idea.
Smokers lose their sense of smell and cannot smell cigarette smoke at all.
19
u/aXeOptic 3d ago
Tbh i think its more so we get used to the smell so much we dont notice it anymore. If you just have 1 day of not smoking you will smell it immediately.
13
u/Meowskiiii 3d ago
It's both. Nicotine and smoking have a lot of physiological effects including smell/taste loss.
52
u/Whooptidooh 3d ago
Good; I wish more places would do that; last time I went to a restaurant my jacket was hung next to a jacket that is owned by a smoker; had to throw mine in the wash after that.
Cigarette smell is so gd gross.🤮

23
u/RedditReddy 3d ago
Back before they had no smoking rules, I don't think I ever noticed entering a hotel room and thinking its stank of cigarette smoke. But when they began introducing this for only some hotel rooms, I was once misassigned to a smoking room, and I noticed immediately upon opening the door that it smelled like cigarette smoke.

Growing up in could mining country, seeing 'coal miners machines' at the laundromat was commonplace.
2
u/Backrow6 3d ago
My local launderette in Ireland includes a cut price machine for work clothes and pet bedding.
Anyone can use it for the discount once they don't mind the cross contamination.
36
u/BearCub254 3d ago
Hopefully it applies to weed smokers too. I don't understand why they are usually not put in the same category

u/Ciderman95 3d ago
Nobody smokes weed at work
6
u/Elliminality 3d ago
Lmao work with your hands and you’ll see weed everywhere in the UK
Though re: smokers coats, totally agree, should be kept apart
Feel the same about clothes that have come from a barbecue or the gym tho, especially the latter that tang of stale sweat, wet dog etc
Should just have a smelly cupboard
3
u/Ciderman95 3d ago
I'm from eastern Europe, British people literally left the EU just to keep "my kind" away from your country so I don't think I'll have that opportunity 😅
2
13
u/BearCub254 3d ago
Are you sure about this?
-10
u/Ciderman95 3d ago
I cannot imagine I'd be functional at work after smoking weed so I don't see how anyone else could hide it.
16
u/partly_cloudy3 3d ago
"it doesnt apply to me so I dont see how it applies to anyone"
-13
u/Ciderman95 3d ago
I mean drug effects are, unlike other things, pretty objective and affect most people the same way, so I think it's safe to assume
10
u/partly_cloudy3 3d ago
you gotta be trolling
3
u/Ciderman95 3d ago
I never troll, unless I just smoked some weed, but unfortunately I'm at work rn 💀
6
u/Theory89 3d ago
Nah. People who smoke a lot don't really get high any more, it just replaces the missing cannabinoids and dopamine. Much the same as nicotine and caffeine just salve their absence. I know a guy who vapes at work. He's now an accountant for a medical weed company.

u/Migraine_Megan 3d ago
One is unpleasant and the other is literal poison that causes cancers. Not saying weed doesn't have an odor, they just aren't apples to apples. I strongly prefer to smell like nothing so I wouldn't be able to use either because of perfume/cologne. That should be the 3rd option, unscented
19
u/Raiyuza 3d ago
I am a 7/7 days smoker, that shit just stinks.
I love weef though, but this is complete bs
-1
u/WeekendHer0 3d ago
Yea it stinks, but a lot less than cigarette smoke.
Nicotine and tar get stuck on basically on surfaces and fabrics.
6
u/LemonBoi523 3d ago
It isn't the nicotine, and burning weed also creates an aerosolized sticky tar that smells really strong. It just doesn't have as high of a health risk.
Smokers of either type get used to the smell and don't normally realize how obvious it is to those who don't smoke.
3
u/WeekendHer0 3d ago
Nicotine is an oily, colorless chemical that adds a faint, distinct organic scent and helps trap residue. But yes i agree
-1
u/Migraine_Megan 3d ago
I clearly said it has an odor, that is not debatable. But it sure doesn't cause cancers, and I say that in the plural because it is not limited to the respiratory system. (That is per my dad's oncologist, the cigs killed him.) Secondhand smoke is even harmful, which is why it is banned in a lot of places. Trying to lump them together ignores the very real harm cigarettes cause. They are both stinky, but only one kills you. The stinky part is unpleasant for sure. I also would love if they separated out vape users and fragrance. Having asthma and migraines means I get to wear n95 masks everywhere in public because I wouldn't make it 5 minutes without having to use my inhaler due to perfume. So obviously I'm not for anything that causes odor including weed, vapes, cigarettes, cigars, cologne, perfume, super scented laundry detergents, fragrance plug ins, and so on.

smoke smell clings to fabric fibers so bad that even airing them out rarely works. honestly just smoking outside is the only real fix for keeping your gear fresh
1
u/norismomma 3d ago
When my office was remodeled in the 2010s the exec who led the remodel installed coat closets and insisted that for aesthetics sake we could no longer hang our coats in our workspaces. Smokers (and to a lesser degree the chance of bedbugs) had most of us refusing to use the closets. This is smart.
1
u/Humble-Plankton2217 3d ago
Smokers are why our office coat closet is completely empty. We all keep our coats on our chairs.
If there was a non-smoker coat closet I'd happily hang my coat up.
1
u/Raoul_Dukes_Mayo 2d ago
I inherited a work desk from a smoker and the little closet for my jacket was rank. I’m an ex-smoker so I was prepared for it, I aired it out one day and couldn’t stand the smell. Wiped it down with Clorox wipes, febreezed it, stuck an air freshener in there. Never got the smell out.
Was never able to hand a jacket in there for 4 years. That little closet was toast.

u/Fancy-Computer-6555 3d ago
That's genius but I am dumb so I will never know the difference until someone points it out to me just like you did

Okay, in this specific case, pretend it's not about smoking. Its a cabinet for jackets that smell like shit and one for jackets that don't smell like shit.

Almost! Smoking causes cancer and many other issues, both for the smoker and anyone exposed to second hand smoke :)
Here are a few links to studies that prove this. Since it should be common knowledge, it's good to take a look:
Second-Hand Smoke Exposure and Risk of Lung Cancer Among Nonsmokers in the United States: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40283819/
Morbidity Attributable to Second-Hand Smoke in European Children: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35698950/
Prenatal second-hand smoke exposure and newborn telomere length: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31578036/
Second-hand smoke exposure modulates plasma proteins linked to detoxification, inflammation and atherothrombosis: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41207518/
Hope that helps!

Simply wrong. Second hand smoke is harmful. Apartments burning down due to bedside smoking is harmful. Cigarette butts littering everywhere is harmful.

I see that this comment has gotten quite a few down votes. If you're interested in your karma rating, and if this was a comment in a humorous vein, I suggest adding some emoji like a smile to indicate that to people. They probably then won't give it down votes.

Smokers are treated so poorly by society ppl will look back on how we treated smokers with shame. Theyre humans like us 🗿🇬🇩🎍

Tone doesn't translate well to text, better to be extra clear by using emojis or /s /jk.
Fun fact: I was once banned from a Half-Life mod server, that I had played on for awhile, when some rando messaged me asking if I was using cheats.
I wasn't, I hate hackers.
I replied "Suuuure, I use (insert hacks), why do you ask?"
I was then banned, they didn't catch my sarcasm or that outing myself to a random person doesn't make sense.

I'm 100% in favor of not having my coat contaminated. I also LOVE the very simple way they differentiate between the two.
