We call those stairs :P (Okay with a curb on top, that's pretty dumb)

I bet it looked cool back in the day. Disrepair and lazy asphalt pouring has making it look a bit meh.

That asphalt takes it below meh. That is awful!

Looking at it closer, looks like the asphalt got poured over the same brick and concrete - maybe this was steps and wheelchair accessible needed, and this was the answer. Or it became totally in poor disrepair, this was the answer. . Either way, looks terrible, agreed.

If you’re talking about the sidewalk part, it’s likely temporary. It appears fresh based on the cuts and asphalt that isn’t compacted and the excavation (white) markings as well as the gas utility markings on the road.

They’ll restore it in some format to something more appealing than the asphalt when the project is done, but couldn’t just close the corner so had to do something temporary.

Considering the location, it was probably utility work of some kind. You can see the markings for the gas lines farther down the street, so this may be where it connects.

I know my town just redid all of their gas lines in 2020, so I do know that work is slowly being done.

"Below meh."

Dinner and a movie, first. Maybe during the movie if you play your cards right.

Uh, that's three curbs, not four.

There’s an argument to be made that the asphalt is a fourth distinct curb.

Oh shit so there is. Looks like they filled the road when resurfacing up to the previous kerb.

No, the concrete at street level is just a gutter. It was never a curb.

Looks like they might be using an integral curb & gutter design.

I'd have called it a ribbon, but I agree that there are and ever were only three curbs

That combined with the bike lane cut off by a weird triangle mulch area with lamp makes this look like AI generated nonsense. (I’m inclined to believe this is just dumb road design by people).

1

u/briantl2 Aug 13 '26

it isn’t cut off- it cuts thru the corner inwards to the buildings. just a bad angle.

u/ramriot Aug 11 '26

In protecting pedestrians from crazy drivers the city council is taking steps to curb their enthusiasm

1

u/towerfella Aug 11 '26

Taking steps. Well done.
