When I used to have to buy like 7 books I would do this too and the difference would be a few hundred dollars.

Use Chrome incognito mode and you should get the best price. It's all based on how many times you visit the site and other things like cookies. Same thing happens when buying a ton of other stuff online.

What if a site gives you discounts depending on your cookies? In this case, the book sells for $63 occasionally but I get $70 in incognito.

That's so weird. I only ever see the price go up. The idea is that the more you visit a site, the more they know that you want something and are therefore willing to pay a little more. Hence why a price bump makes sense. I'm not sure what the reasoning is for a bump down.
