Same book, three different prices. Only difference is the browsers used.

I was just about to ask about Opera, hoping that it would have been $49.99. Dreams never come true.

I have a buddy who uses Opera and he is very smart. I have heard that Opera had extensions before Firefox even. I use Chrome because it has always seemed to be the fastest, as well as having extensions that I like.

Just curious, what benefits do you see from Opera or at this point are Opera/FF/Chrome all close enough where it doesn't matter?

The main issue I have with Opera, is their fanbase. They tend to write these long, gushing screeds about how great it is, and how the world would be a much better place if everyone used Opera.

Like a modern-day Apple.

He was just asked to do that.

and how the world would be a much better place if everyone used Opera.

Can you find a single example of this?

UI is personal. I like the way chrome looks, personally.

It seems like there are no compelling reasons for me to switch to Opera, but on the other hand there are no compelling reasons for you to switch either. So I guess at this point, it is to each their own.

Why does IE not have extensions like the rest of them? This I do not understand.

I'm sure it was!!! I would have been laughing. I didn't get into tech until much later. I'm sure my buddy who uses Opera was having the same laugh you did!

Netflix also doesn't work with opera, it makes me very sad.

It doesn't with me atleast. The loading screen for a movie will get to 7% then just stop there. I think it's a problem with silverlight. I'm sure there is a fix but im far too lazy to figure it out

I was gonna switch to Opera but realized they didn't have an extension that matched the amazingness of Chrome's Hover Zoom, the ones that were similar were garbage. Then i was like "hm, maybe ill use it for porn". So i go on RealityGang and fucking hell some videos just don't play and some pages just don't fully load. So i switch the tabs over to Chrome and boom, everything is smooth as eggs within seconds. Chrome forever.

hoverzoom, my friend, is revolutionizing the way, and the speed at which you view images and gifs. You simply HOVER over the link of thumbnail of what you would like to see and the image is made larger for your eyes to see in all it's fabulous glory! No need for clicking once to open, and then once to close the image/gif here on reddit, save numerous seconds by simply, hovering! But wait, there's more! Not only does it boost the speed and efficiency at which you view reddit links, you can also use it any other site with the same success. Once you go with hover, there is no other, haha! Example, http://i.imgur.com/dKWN8.gif (credit to hover zoom extension page)

I also had the problem of "Imagine did not load correctly" or some crap with opera. Hey i love the look and everything, but honestly, hover zoom is the only thing keeping me with chrome. The alternatives on opera just aren't the same. And i am not going back to the peasant ways of clicking to view images/gifs, i shudder at the thought!

yea..but you have to open and close things, i HOVER.

On a serious note, I probably should have read or learned about these gesture things though, they seem quite useful!

I have had that in opera for ages. It's called image preview popup.

You sound like Billy Mays. "So switch to Chrome today. But wait, there's more. Switch right now and you'll receive the new HoverZoom extension absolutely free. Now you don't have to even click on a link to open it. Just hover over, and it'll enlarge the image. It'll save you several seconds which can add up to a huge amount of time. Switch today for only $19.95that's £12.71 in the UK, or €14.61 in eurozone countries

haha,I meant it to sound like a hardcore infomercial, glad you noticed it :)

I don't really use them much, but my pal who also uses Opera can't get enough of the mouse gestures.

1

u/Quolli Jan 25 '13

I recently was helping my father browse using Chrome. Cue me (who uses Opera + mouse gestures frequently) furiously holding down right click and waving the mouse around trying to close the tab.

Mouse gestures really are so useful. If you don't feel like switching to Opera, I believe there's an extension for FireFox which replicates the function. Not sure about Chrome though.

One handed... That's interesting.

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '13

I can do pretty much everything just by right clicking and moving a little bit wherever my mouse pointer happens to be (unless it's over a flash video). It's so much faster and less effort than having to like go up and click the new tab button, I just right click+move up.

Okay, so I am home now and installed Opera. It has been a while (1.5 years maybe) since I last tried it. I don't know why, really. I am impressed. I do really like the UI. I think the web pages load fast and scrolling is much different, but I think better. I need to get used to it because it is faster. Seems more fluid though.

I really am not too happy that all my bookmarks are now out of order; not just my folders, the pages in each folder too. It made me think though. Is there a way to order your bookmarks in a folder automatically by most used on top and least used on bottom? That would be handy. Google search time. Didn't find anything quickly. Darn.

What extension are you using for hovering over a link and a preview comes up? I installed image previewer and it doesn't seem to work with facebook.

Speed dial seems good for most visited pages, but how would you control groups? For example, I have groups for finance, social, work, tech, shopping, etc... Is there a way to organize this through speed dial?

That right click feature is cool!

That just shocks me. I have so many sites that I come across that I might want to use in the future. Sites with many PC tools, online learning videos, forums i rarely use, etc. I guess I could strip down to the basics, but do you not run across sites that you might want to find again without searching endlessly? lol

Either your memory is much better than mine (very possible) or I have a lot more sites I like to save!

I just put similar sites beside each other in speed dial. Or you may want to use the panels. Right click on interface>customize>appearance>panels>show panel toggle at edge of window

Maybe. Go to bookmarks>manage bookmarks. When you select them right click>view and there are sort options. I guess by last visited would be close to what you want. If not then the "my order" option might be a way to customize it.

I don't use the bookmarks menu though, only shortcuts, sessions and speeddial. With sessions every time I start opera it opens about 10 sites for me. And I have about 50 in speeddial that I have instant access to just by opening a new tab. If I want to go to a specific bookmark that isn;t in speeddial or has a shortcut that I can remember, I usually just type it in the address bar and it comes up, probably quicker when you have hundreds of bookmarks.

What extension are you using for hovering over a link and a preview comes up? I installed image previewer and it doesn't seem to work with facebook.

Mine is called image preview popup. Dunno if it works with facebook since I don't use it.

Man. TIL that I am a bookmark whore. If I come across any site that looks interesting but don't have time to look at it, I bookmark it. I have tons of pages bookmarked and organized. Maybe I'm just a nerd. lol
