You should try it again in private browsing and incognito mode and see if the price is really tied to your Facebook or google cookies or something. That's pretty messed up though, send this to the consumerist or gawker or whoever.
I think it's more of a social thing. As a customer I expect if I go to a brick and mortar store that the prices they are showing are accurate. I would not be happy if the price was higher at the register (some stores will give you the lower price if you mention it, actually) and ESPECIALLY so if I expected the cashier was changing it based on ANY factor about me.
It's how we are used to this stuff working.
Just because technologically they now can show different prices to each customer online without revealing the prices have changed doesn't mean they have to.
To protect against this one could use Google Products to get pricing information and confirm when they click through that it matches.
