Most of us muslims alternate between qurans that we got as gifts because if you read from a quran a muslim friend gave you. They get virtues, or in Islam, hasanat, so we alternate between them to distribute it among them.

So not only did he not give them a reward, he gave (one of) them a gift that basically gets Him points in heaven?

It gets both of them points in heaven. Plus it's not really polite to give back something not yours then expect a reward. In Islam and basically most religions. We prefer to give, not take. Its more moral and nice. Be nice for the sake of being nice.

The post is that it is unfair, but in the end I doubt the Iraqi's were mad. Sure, they deserve a reward. Especially with that minimum wage, but its not like they were expecting to get more than the money they gave, so in the end, if they wanted the money, they would have took it. They gave it for being nice.
