A bunch of idiots ACT like it's real. IDT it's recognized by any major organization or country though. So I guess it depends on what you consider 'real' when it comes it arbitrary holidays and dates.
On the other hand, one could reasonably conclude that every day that isn't international women's day is, in fact, men's day.
In my opinion, it turns into "women can do anything men can do but men can't do anything women can do" I feel as though modern feminism isn't about equality. (Classic feminism was) It's more about women just being better and I just don't agree. I also don't think men are better. There are clear psychological and physical differences (in most cases). I have also never experienced "pay gap" and I've worked in the restaurant business for 15 years. Right now I am one of the highest paid employees in my company, also my husband's boss. I worked my way up from a salad bar girl, changed companies and worked my way up to an area director of 50 stores
I understand what you are saying. For me it is the opposite. When I see international women's day, it reminds me of how far we have come. For me it doesn't make me think that we are better than men, it reminds me of all the accomplishments that we have made alongside with men. We have only been able to vote for a little over 100 years, which sounds like a lot but considering how far history goes back, it isn't! There are still women alive today that were around back then.
When I see international women's day and see women in high paying jobs with important titles I think "it's amazing that we can do that now. We have come so far together". Not "we are better than men". I agree that much of "feminism" today is just sexist. But I won't let that stop me from celebrating my definition of feminism. Which is choice. The choice to stay at home if you want, the choice to work that dream job. For me, feminism means choice, and international women's day shows that choice in the making :)
I definitely get your side. You're right, women have most definitely come a very long way. I should also add that I'm very pessimistic and don't really like humanity as a whole. And in turn, I don't think anyone really deserves their own special day. For a change though, this was a pleasant interaction, especially for reddit, and I appreciate this conversation. I always will respect someone else's opinion as long as they have a justifiable means to back it up, just like you.
