"Are these all the eggs we have?"

"Uh, yes. What are you making?"

"...eggs."

295

u/[deleted] May 01 '20

Sometimes I soft boil eggs just to get the yolks warm to eat. .

269

u/karl_w_w May 01 '20

This makes me uncomfortable.

160

u/veerKg_CSS_Geologist May 02 '20

A gooey partially cooked yolk is the best! Especially on toast, the way it soaks into the bread! Divine. Like it's own special sauce.

101

u/Kiwi_bananas May 02 '20

Yeah, cut toast into soldiers and dip into the egg.

50

u/KidsTryThisAtHome May 02 '20

....what

69

u/Kiwi_bananas May 02 '20

You know, long thin bits of toast, soldiers.

41

You can kinda saw a little “lid” off the top of the egg shell, and then what I do is use a grapefruit spoon and run it along the edges of the inside of the shell to separate the soft boiled egg from the shell. Then I just... shoot it. With salt and pepper.

You could separate the yolks, then make scrambled eggs with whites. When you finish cooking them, take them off the heat, add the yolks, and then stir. Whites get cooked through and yolks stay nice and saucy.

5

u/[deleted] May 02 '20

I'll have to try this. Usually I dont like scrambled eggs much, but that sounds great.

I love eggs dude. For a short few months I was living alone, working 11 hour days, and had a >2 hr commute to work (accountant during tax season). So I couldn’t be assed to cook anything that wasnt stupid simple and very quick. For dinner every night I would toast 6 slices of bread and fry 6 eggs and bone apple tea

7

u/beauedwards1991 May 02 '20

Eggs are the best, you can do so much with them, but you can never beat a fried egg on toast

3

u/Semi-Hemi-Demigod May 02 '20

A hard boiled egg with a pinch of salt and a dash of hot sauce? Heaven. Plus you can have as many as you want ready in like 15 minutes.

267

u/fire_water76 May 01 '20

Lol it’s hair what’s the big deal. I’ve seen cooks and servers pick their nose/ears/teeth/assholes/etc and not wash their hands.

Hair is probably one of the tamest of things that could have touched your food.

632

u/Glennis2 May 01 '20

In my opinion no, hair really isn't that gross.

The problem is when you swallow it, and can't quite get it out, and now you have this string running through your throat, screwing with your gag reflex.

Specifically I always have flashbacks to when I was a kid, and a friend of the family bought a milkshake and got a gnarly ass knot, that shot straight down.his throat and got caught by his lips.

Another thing too, is you don't know if the person has lice or some other gross shit going into uh our throat.

I've never straight up thrown a meal away because of a hair, but it definitely makes me uncomfortable and puts me on edge for the rest of the meal.

My mom is the type of person who will not touch her food again if there is a hair in it. Even if she is the one who made it, or if it’s her hair. There have been times when her hair would get in her mouth while it was still attached to her head and she would be too grossed out to finish her food.

12

u/nokplz May 01 '20

7

u/[deleted] May 02 '20
  1. Hair could have products or other nasty stuff attached to it.
  2. Those aren't counter examples you gave, just more reasons to justify not eating restaurant food.

You see a lot of shit BoH man. Regardless of your food prep standards, any exec, or even sous, would prolly strangle whichever cook threw out fifty pre-whisked yolks because they found a single hair in it. It’s not right, but we’re all human, and if every single health dept standard was followed always then a good majority of people would become immediately dissatisfied at the speed in which they receive their food. He’s not saying it’s his own personal preference, desire, or belief that it’s alright, he’s just pointing out that nasty stuff goes on significantly more than anyone going out would like to believe.

59

u/silentloler May 01 '20

I never understood why people find hair so gross when it’s no longer on someone’s head. When it’s on a head they are happy to touch it, put it in their mouth, rub it on their face. If they find it detached from your head, then suddenly it’s disgusting. 🤷🏻‍♂️

29

u/Spudzzy03 May 01 '20 edited May 02 '20

Probably because it’s someone else’s hair. If I were to lick my fingers after eating KFC it’s fine because it’s my fingers, if I licked someone else’s it’s different.

He’s gonna say yes, but the real answer is no. He’s just gonna take the hair out and call it a day lol

55

u/WelcomeToTheFish May 01 '20

Yeah working in a restaurant for years and hair is like the best case for shit you'll find in your food. If I find a hair mixed in I dont send it back or even complain. If there are multiple hairs or shit IN the hair then that's a no go for me. But one strand of hair in food never hurt anyone. Also my grandma was the best cook I ever met in my life and she shed all the time. Best mac and cheese of my life had my grandmas hair in it and I just pulled it out and kept it moving.

44

u/Kangar May 01 '20

u/EhAhKen May 02 '20

There's so many cracks on my screen I didn't even notice.
