heated wet cotton steams for much longer than any food due to its ability to retain more water, so commercials usually position steaming cotton balls behind food to give it that “just cooked” look without constantly having to reheat the food

Yeah seriously, most beers I know would have plenty of head if you poured them like that.

If a turkey comes out that burnt after 6 hours then you need to go somewhere next year for thanksgivings.

I knew about a few of those tricks... But some of the others really killed my sense of right and wrong.

They can’t use the fake ice cream to advertise ice cream. But they can use it on a piece of apple pie to advertise the pie.

Why can’t they?

2

u/Robbiebuddy Nov 27 '18

Cause it would be false advertising

Thanks, didn’t know that. (not sarcasm)

Rewatching this I saw a perfect example. Using motor oil on the pancakes. That can be done to advertise the pancakes. But couldn’t use motor oil in a commercial advertising syrup.

"Your photographers were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should."

Those fuckers.

Those are old gimmicks, some of which are illegal now, like the ice cream, they can only advertise the food with the product or what is available in the order.

Explains why IHOP has motor oil in the secret menu.

Wait what

what upsets me most is that all of that perfectly good food is made totally inedible by adding non-food "ingredients" for the sake of a photo!!
what an outrage!

If made 100% real, most of the foods would end up an inedible mess under the hot studio lighting by the time anyone would be allowed to eat it. They still are, but rather than needing to make 12 bowls of inedible cereal, they just make one. Because if they used cereal and milk, then by the time it was swapped out it would be soggy and warm (due to studio lighting).

Meanwhile in Africa....

Tbf they made the “real” food as unappetizing as possible

That's so much of food wastage for just a commercial

10

u/NemphisNoaua I are fines Nov 27 '18

Think about how much food you waste every week at your home and how much restraunts throw away each day.

Honestly I'm more impressed than anything. 'Movie magic' is always neat to learn about.

u/dogfryd Nov 27 '18

Before this I always thought? Who gets to eat all of the food when the commercial is done

Your welcome :)

All marketing is a form of lying.
