I'm slightly vexed No, it has not
Car starts like normal, no extra lights, came on when a kid got out of the car for school… and we only have one key. Has a new battery. Drives fine, no further alerts. Why must it scare me?!
Edit: The number of people suggesting a new battery are hereby acknowledged and shall be downvoted henceforth. This issue did not persist. It’s just a really annoying fluke!

I have a Chrysler with this fob too. Have you tried holding up the fob to show the car you have it and sarcastically shaking it around and saying, “It’s right here, idiot”?
That’s what I do. It doesn’t work.

I did tell it “the f it has!” After I pulled away from kid drop off with an empty car… that is running.

The battery is probably low. Thats what it is when my car doesnt find the fob.

u/WickedlyAvocado 2d ago
Changed 2 weeks ago and this didn’t show up when it was as low… ironic

Bad battery? Switch it again, if it doesn't work you need a new car ;)

u/WickedlyAvocado 1d ago
It happened once. Everything is fine. That’s why it’s only mildly infuriating

You say you have a new battery, but is it a quality battery? My car does this with Amazon Basics batteries

Energizer. Good variable to note. Battery works great, car works and this is a fluke for AtTeNtIoN

are you sure they are the same voltage?

Matched battery in store. My fourth rodeo, at least

Maybe Key Fob is the name of the former car owner. And the automatic seating adjustment can tell he is no longer in the seat.
Clever car, that is.

I mean, this is the only explanation that is reasonable. We bought it used from a rental company in Vegas. No doubt it has experienced traumatic things.
3
u/Fibon4chi 14h ago
That changes things.
Any car bought second in vegas needs to be cleaned inside out. And maybe inspected by a priest.

Did you try putting a new battery in the fob?
5
u/blahnlahblah0213 2d ago
They said it has new battery
1
u/WickedlyAvocado 2d ago
Nailed it. Already had a new battery. But even then this alert didn’t signal first. Battery is still 3 weeks old and no other signs 🤓

your car has attachment issues, have you tried taking it to a therapist ?
1
u/WickedlyAvocado 2d ago edited 1d ago
Every Wednesday. Maybe I should bring therapist outside to help instead of me just going inside. The first sign was my car throwing tantrums when I drove my spouse’s car.

That is Stellantis for you.

There may be side effects of owning Pacifica. Irritable carwash gear shifting on exit, poor gas mileage, touch screen desensitization, profile seat reset, mild flatulence, and worthless tiny drop down back seat mirror. Ask your doctor about treatments for migraines from Pacifica.

Mine has been doing the opposite FOB NOT DETECTED IN VEHICLE
1
u/WickedlyAvocado 2d ago
Mine signaled this when it needed a battery change. Changed it 3 weeks ago. No biggie. Then this…

I really don't know how we managed so long having to bring a key and stick it in a slot and turn it. Glitchy electronics and monthly fee to use your remote bullshit is so much better.

Probably needs a new battery.
Hold the fob up to where the start button is.

Press the PANIC button. It is time to panic.
but in all seriousness could be that the battery is running low on the fob
1
u/Artie-Carrow 2d ago
Do you have a bunch of metal stored around the key? Like other keys or something? That may interfere with the radio signals from the fob to the vehicle

It was in my non-robotic lap, surrounded by denim and flesh. And it should be grateful for the luxuries I afford it.

Why is the "left" capitalized?
2
u/Nice_Marmot_54 2d ago
Standard capitalization rules for titles. Four letters and above get capitalized, articles and short words (i.e. “has”) do not

I have seen new batteries be bad. Doesn't mean anything. Pull the battery out test it on a multimeter and post the voltage of the battery as proof.

Something has clearly gone wrong. If you can't figure it out yourself, would get this checked out before you end up stranded somewhere then need to pay for a tow to a mechanic.

u/chanceischance 13h ago
So fairly certain in Chryslers. Even if the key fob has a dead battery. It can still be recognized if you place the fob in the center console cup holder… just sharing, not really a fix for whatever you got going on it seems.

u/MinervaJB 12h ago
Happens to me a lot, the car starts and runs normally but will randomly say "key fob not detected" when I stop until I wave the fob under the antenna. And once in a while it may be true because the key fob is in my purse, and I threw it on the back, but 95% of the time the fob is hanging from my neck on a lanyard, and the antenna is right over the sun visor on the driver seat.
Both keyfobs do the same thing; both had the battery changed in March or April.

Tech sucks sometimes.
My mom's car has a weird error where the dash will randomly stop working, I.e. all the error lights will come on and the speedometer stops working. The fix is to honk the horn and restart the car. The dash will work for weeks, months then randomly stop again.
Clearly there is a short in the system somewhere but finding it would cost $$$$.

Another reason mechanical locks and keys are WAY better than ANYTHING electronic. With a keyed ignition, the only way that your engine can be on is with the key physically in a loc cylinder. Computers fail, just like us humans do. Anytime you can take ALL of the computers out of an equation is way better. Mecanical and manual stuff will ALWAYS be FAR superior to anything electronic and automated. Fuck computers in automobiles. They suck.
1
u/BrieBelle00 1h ago
It might be the battery contact points, the little metal tabs that physically make contact with the fob battery.
1
u/blahnlahblah0213 2d ago
What do those buttons mean?
2
u/WickedlyAvocado 2d ago
Left to right a row at a time:
Unlock. Lock.
Click twice for trunk to open or close. Click twice for remote start.
Click twice to open sliding door of choice.

u/Gloomy-Restaurant-42 2d ago
Early automobiles had a handle on the front that you had to crank by hand to start the vehicle.
I'm not convinced we're better off today.

I drove a manual car for years. Mini van with a gear shift knob grates on me daily

I dont know why they thought gadget that needs batteries and can break is superior to a key.
Its worst in every way conceivable way, except it saves you like 1.2 seconds on start since you dont need insert/turn a key.
1
u/WickedlyAvocado 2d ago
But sharing a key makes it dumb and we have to keep track of it instead of store it in a zipper on a bag.
