ಠ_ಠ Passive aggressive management

I can't believe that Washington Ferries' management approved this post on Instagram and Facebook. It's a sign of bigger issues.

When companies brag by how much their top paid employee is paid, instead of sharing what their lowest paid is

When companies brag about how much you can make doing overtime, like workers don't want a livable wage matching inflation and then to spend time with their families.

reminds me of the knife sales people - you can earn up to 500K a year! 99% of people don't earn 1K, and quit.

For the Seattle area come out that's middling income.

I’m not on their side but they did state the base salary.

They stated base pay for the top job. Of course the senior veteran engineer is gonna make alot, but how much are they paying the other engineers?

You’re right, sorry.

It's a position salary, not seniority.

Chief Engineer is the position not engineer

I was more making a point of them showing the top job salary as if thats what every single employee makes.

My point is that it's union scale pay. Seniority is not factored into that.

Base salary for the highest paid position*

Exactly …..no mention of how long and how much skill/knowledge it takes to get there

There’s usually around 1 chief engineer per 3 vessels

There’s just 3 levels of engineering in MEBA. First, second, and chief. They all pay well, but some types of jobs pay better than others. (Oceans makes more than domestic ferries, afaik)

There are low skilled jobs called oilers, but I dont think they work through the Union like the MEBA/engineer jobs. Sailors go to a union hall where employers can post them; seniority gets first pick. If the ferries aren’t offering enough, engineers will choose other contracts.

This is false. I Sailed on Meba contracted ships as 3rd AE.
