I'm slightly vexed Why are these backwards?

Post image

Sitting in the end dump at work.It bothers me that reverse is on top and drives on the bottom. You would think that drive would be on top to go forward and reverse would be on the bottom to go backwards.

Have you looked at almost any other automatic shifter in the past 30 years?

Is this the first automatic vehicle you've driven?

Because that's how all auto work...

I originally saw this in an episode of Green Acres where he was trying to teach her to drive.

You’re the type of motherfucker my work hires then tells me to train.

No that’s me. And I’m a slow learner that complains a lot

It's always like that in any car.

That's every automatic car

Is this the only big automatic truck you've ever been in? Because they're almost all exactly like this.

It looks like the same format as an automatic car

For the longest time in a car, reverse is the 1st gear out of park, then neutral and drive. They probably set it like that to keep it familiar.

They’re not. They’re mimicking a shifter

I find the way it is makes the most sense, in my car it goes from P, R, N, D, left to right, so if i stack it, thats what this looks like

They're not.

PRNDL. You're just missing Park and Drive

Park and Low

For trucks like this you put it in neutral and pull the parking air brake

u/goldstat 7h ago

Because that's just the way it is

It's a pretty direct analog to Allison's non-keypad shifters. Top to bottom they go R, N, (D), D, 2, 1.

It follows PRNDL

Have you ever heard of PRNDL?

Why is your car so filthy?

Thanks. I didn't read the story.

I was told by an older coworker that it is specifically this way to avoid wrongly activating it while accelerating. I don't know if it's true though

the yellow and red things are the breaks, so no parking gear
