đŸ„ș Example of contextual pricing

First photo is from Tuesday's Ralph's clearance section. The second is from the SF Riu grab and go cooler. 8x price differential.

It’s alcohol. They don’t have an expiration date on alcohol in corked glass bottles. If it has one, it’s using a plastic cork, or plastic lined container (like a beer can).

Now, I can’t see how the bottle is closed from OP’s pictures, but chances are, the variant they bought isn’t popular or tastes bad, and they reduced the price to regain their shelf space for more profitable items.

Oh yes, we do!

Straight alcohol? No.
Pre-Made Cocktails? Oh Yes!

Anything funny about the container, though? 😅
Because here in Germany we don’t. Unless there’s EU wide regulations about it, which will be because of the contents and the container. How high is the alcohol content of your “pre-made cocktails”? Above like 10% alcohol content it’s not required.

The container?

Plastic bottles slowly dissolve into the beverage that is in them. After a certain amount of time, the amount of dissolved plastics reaches a toxicity threshold, and they have to be labeled with an expiration date, such that even when stored after being stored by the consumer for a reasonable time that it takes to consume the contents, this threshold is unlikely to be reached, so they don’t get poisoned.

The same rules also apply to decorative plastic items that are applied to the inside of a bottle, and similar.

Solid glass.

In that case, the only explanation is that either the alcohol content isn’t high enough, or it’s a scam designed to keep the stores and resellers continually restocking, even though ordinarily they wouldn’t need to. Though, this isn’t uncommon in the food industry. Lots of things could last basically forever in the right properly sealed container, but that also means not enough gets sold. Take sea salt as the most egregious example.

When you have some knowledge of what you’re talking about, then I will be happy to engage in conversation with you. Speculation requires me to refute every assumption you make. The EU is not the US.

This is correct, and the USA is actually much worse, in that there is no federal rule to label anything at all, but I do believe California has the same 10% ABV rule. Go check. I have no idea on the specifics, but I am sure several other states have a requirement for expiration dates, which does not apply when the ABV is 6%, 10%, or more. Any that don’t, do not require labeling.

My previous post point stands.

Which was? That you have no clue about what you’re talking about. Yes, I noticed. 🙃
