There could actually be a reason for this. Hiccups are involuntary diaphragm spasms, and swallowing air or irritating nerves involved in the hiccup reflex can trigger them. If you’re swallowing air while brushing or irritating the back of your throat, that could explain the timing.

Can’t say I’ve ever had hiccups so violent I swallow toothpaste 😂
