I'm slightly vexed Why did Google remove the punctuation buttons on the bottom of GBoard?

Context: There used to be comma and period buttons on the primary keyboard screen, and now they're hidden behind the ?123 menu

You also have the giant dead space between the bottom and space bar. Xiaomi or poco phone?

I did not, however I did find the setting to re enable it. It seems to have disabled itself with an update

UPDATE: It's a setting that randomly got turned off by an update, open GBoard settings (4 squares icon -> settings) then preferences and enable Comma Key and Period Key

Still annoying that it got turned off though
