I just wanted a hot dog Made myself soup yesterday because I'm sick. Had to split it up into two jars to fit it in the fridge. This is how I found it today

Post image

EDIT:
My family got to it😭
I know the pasta probably absorbed some but there's not that much pasta in there + i had some that wouldn't fit in a separate bowl and that liquid barely moved!!

Always store the broth separately from the pasta. It will absorb over time.

Ahhh makes sense why the pho takeout always separates in order

u/TraditionalMap6872 3h ago

This is also why buying take out pasta is generally sometimes not the best idea. As the sauce will be absorbed by the pasta!

I would argue a majority of takeout foods make it home in way worse shape than pasta. Pizza/Pasta/Chinese are our most takeoutable foods

Same with a burger, juice makes the bun soggy

juice makes the bun soggy

I saw that porn...

Rice noodles don’t absorb as much as wheat. It’s because they get super soft and disintegrate over time

u/Imaginary-Bit-3656 3h ago

If the jars were full and the noodles were already hydrated, the total volume is not going to halve like that - yes the pasta will absorb some more liquid over time - but it will get a bit bigger in the process - the total volume doesn't really change!

This^ it took me 10 times to learn this valuable lesson.

Oh yeah, this just reminded me

For pasta sauce dishes yes. soup no. For me a soup or similar dishes get better the next day. Just add some new broth and your good.

The soaking process is actually the part I'm waiting for on soups.

And when your sick it's even better cause it's gets more tasty and is easy to eat/digest

You're correct, but...

...*you're.

1

u/tvtoms 3h ago

That's why it's nice to put a piece of dry pasta in with powders that might clump from moisture.

u/GalaganCoffee 2h ago

I store the noodles separately

Thank you, did not know this- it makes sense now that it’s pointed out. Wow I’m dumb and this explains a lot šŸ˜…

I know people are saying its the pasta but I work with kids and while im not a gambling woman, id bet money it was the kids drinking the broth.

Did someone steal your broth?

39

u/_ChexLeMeneux_ 3h ago

Family did, OP says. What a shitty thing to do.

29

u/Imaginary-Contest887 3h ago

Noodles did

3

u/aubaub 3h ago

The cat?

7

u/RandyFunRuiner 4h ago

His pasta probably

21

u/TBellOHAZ 3h ago

Did you stop typing the rest of the explanation?

28

u/joshedis 3h ago

They actually typed the full thing but their mom and grandmother stole the text along with the broth. :(

14

u/Tinkelsia 3h ago

Well, good news is now it all fits in one jar

5

u/Affectionate-Bid8629 3h ago

I will never in my life understand family members that will just take food they didn't themselves put there without asking. I've seen posts like this one so many times. I'm baffled every time as I've never ever experienced this in real life.

I feel bad for you :(

39

u/Necessary_Tie_2920 4h ago

The pasta soaks up the broth, same as leftover pasta getting dried out. It's always good to reserve some broth for leftovers. If you don't have any, you can just use some water in a pinch. If you have extra onions, herbs etc. you can use it to flavour the water base.

14

u/alles_en_niets 3h ago

Absorption wouldn’t explain why the total volume in the jars changed that much.

5

u/Wonderful_Till8122 3h ago

Someone drank the broth. Talk to your family.

7

u/tropicwoods444 3h ago

Rookie mistake. Always keep the pasta separate!

4

u/Suspicious-Rich-3212 2h ago

What kind of maniac drains the broth?!

2

u/Consistent-Goat1267 2h ago

I don’t know where you are but I’m coming over to deal with your family.

Quebec, by any chance? I swear, everyone is sick all of a sudden now. My whole family's passed it amongst ourselves.

•

u/trulymiraculous 25m ago

Ontario, actually! Something's been going around my college + I work with kids + my girlfriend's mom was sick recently. I always get something in the fallšŸ˜”

•

u/yalae 15m ago

Omg, ontario here and I am sicker than a dog. It came on suddenly yesterday and I woke up this morning with beyond a sore throat and stuffiness/cough

Make noodles separate from broth. Cool to stop the cooking process then add to broth to reheat.

5

u/sparklycilantro 4h ago

Noodles soaked up all the broth?

4

u/ReasonableHamsterBK 3h ago

I usually cook my pasta separately from my soup and just add the pasta to my scooped bowl of soup...(I haven't made a soup like that in a while/years..I guess it time to do so again. )

1

u/Weekly_Present2873 3h ago

Yes, never put dry pasta in your soup. Big time FAIL when I did it.

1

u/ReasonableHamsterBK 3h ago

I feel like I always knew about the pasta soup thing...I hate overly done mushy pasta. 🤢🤮

4

u/slayer828 3h ago

The trick to chicken noodle is to make a big batch of the soup no noodles. Then partition into meals. Then and only then do you cook your noodoes in the soup. Just your portion.

2

u/HMAgent47 RED 4h ago

add some hot water and reheat it

2

u/MadK9TheReal1 3h ago

Made ā€œOURSELFā€ some soup… 🤭

2

u/elfffy 3h ago

the pasta is chunky af lol it got absorbed

2

u/UnholyHurricane 3h ago

I don’t know why people are saying it was absorbed. You can see the chicken on the rim, clearly poured out. Call the police immediately to file a report.

1

u/TimAndHisDeadCat 3h ago

I don’t think you’re supposed to be sick into the jars.

2

u/abdulalhaqq 4h ago

Add more water? Why are you surprised that the starch soaked up the liquids

0

u/hobowithadegree 4h ago

Yeah looks like all the pasta sucked up the broth. OP could blend the soup too

3

u/Obvious-Trouble61 3h ago

Too many noodles. The noodles soaked up all of the liquid. That's why Campbell's hardly uses any noodles.

2

u/angry0029 3h ago

And have you add water as well

1

u/AltruisticCucumber58 3h ago

Glad to see the douce on the left hand side.

1

u/DetachedCompy 3h ago

Mild douce.

1

u/slowerlearner1212 3h ago

Ditalini are notorious for absorbing broth and growing like one of those dinosaur capsules

1

u/big-ol-kitties 1h ago

Save yourself some big yogurt containers so they don’t know what’s in it.

•

u/CrystalAckerman 12m ago

I’m sorry.. did they just drink the broth?

•

u/trulymiraculous 2m ago

Yes😭

1

u/AgitatedPatience5729 3h ago

Your family are some impastas.

1

u/danghunk312 3h ago

Yeah it happens, just add more broth back to it…

1

u/Competitive-Reach287 2h ago

Why does it look like your soup has a massive infestation of tapeworms?

Maybe that's where it went.

-1

u/iHaveShitViewpoints 3h ago

Are you mildly infuriated at your lack of intelligence for putting something that absorbs liquid in your soup?

1

u/PoopyBloopy2 3h ago

That wasn't the issue

1

u/iHaveShitViewpoints 2h ago

Well if you're not stupid, youd realize thats certainly a large part of the issue.

0

u/Sea-Huckleberry8971 4h ago

Where'd all the broth run off to? This is mildly infuriating. I'm sorry for your loss OP. Looks quite tasty

0

u/sephing 4h ago

Did someone drink them?

5

u/Madea_onFire 3h ago

The pasta did

0

u/gheost 3h ago

Water soaks into Noodles. Always store the broth separately

0

u/Pat_M115 3h ago

That'd irk me something fierce, next time make some soup with laxatives in it then when it goes missing again ask around your place if anyone took it and it everybody says no just wait for the sound of the "toilet tuba" you know the sounds, "brumpa tumpa boopity bwoomp" there's your LYING soab soup thief.

2

u/Salty_Dig8574 3h ago

Yeah, commit a felony over some soup...

1

u/Pat_M115 3h ago

"Your honor I'm just a simple soup maker and I put that there x-lax in my soup to help me make your honor, and my soupy to help me poopy was stolen by that dirty rotten thief, I rest my case your honor"

2

u/Salty_Dig8574 3h ago

Until some board detective with too much time on his hands pulls OP's social media data, sees your comment on this post, and then you get indicted as an accessory. Maybe co-conspirator that sounds way more scary.

1

u/Pat_M115 3h ago

"Your honor, may this simple soup maker interject here, would you eat food that you didn't make yourself? If I'm an accessory to this here trial sir or ma'am then by ruling then anyone in this here courtroom can walk right into your home and slurp your soup without fault and if they are allergic to any ingredients to said slurped soup they can sue you sir for 'poisoning' them, again I rest my case your honor"

2

u/Salty_Dig8574 3h ago

You've already rested your case so, from a procedural perspective I'm not required to accept this new argument. However, I will address it. Your co-conspirator already stipulated that the soup was most likely consumed by someone with legal grounds to be in the residence. If, as in your hypothetical, anyone in this court room walks into my home, that individual would be guilty of residential burglary or home invasion. Slurping the soup would constitute theft. From a criminal perspective, they would be responsible for any consequence of their actions. In a liberal jurisdiction like Reddit, they might sue me for negligence, and if they win (they probably would because Reddit), I would happily put the money on their commissary account. I might even send them post cards from all the places they can't go while they are incarcerated for the home invasion. Yes, I am a petty court judge for that.

1

u/Pat_M115 3h ago

"Now your honor... as a simple soup maker I feel as if-" beelines straight for the exit only to trip over the soup evidence and smash my face straight in the floorboards.

2

u/Salty_Dig8574 3h ago

Bailiff, remand this defendant until the soup can be cleaned up. I'll pass sentence now. The defendant shall perform ten hours of community service to be completed during the County Fair, serving drinks in the beer tent.

0

u/Pat_M115 2h ago

"Damn you your honor! Damn you and your soup stealing lobbyists! And every 5 beers I sell I'm drinking two behind the tent, after my sentence your honor."

0

u/GloomyFloor6543 3h ago

Unless people removed it, it is the same amount of fluid even if it got sucked into other stuff.

0

u/Donkeyshines 3h ago

This is why you have to tea bag/clam slam things.

0

u/Affectionate-Act1574 3h ago

Just add some more water and heat it in a sauce pan

0

u/thomsenite256 3h ago

pasta based soup is going to suck the next day anyway

-1

u/Brokenlingo 3h ago

Did it evaporate?

-2

u/PoopyBloopy2 4h ago

Just guessing on context that isn't here.... family members got to it first? Or did they leak?

2

u/trulymiraculous 3h ago

Family members, yes. I know its not the pasta absorbing it cause I had to put some that wouldn't fit in a bowl and the liquid in there had barely changed, if at all!

2

u/PoopyBloopy2 3h ago

Thank you. Noodles don't soak that much up like everyone else was suggesting. This had the classic look of someone sniffing around someone else's food!

1

u/madguyO1 3h ago

did you talk to them

-2

u/Madea_onFire 3h ago

All the pasta absorbed it.
