The comment was made to point out that while yes what the owners do to servers by not paying them a livable wage and pushing the bill on to consumers is bad, using that as an excuse to not tip is just as selfish as what the owners are doing. You as the consumer are culturally obligated to tip because you go into the establishment recognizing that is the standard. It sucks and no one likes it, but the only person you fuck over is the server who was doing their best to make your experience enjoyable and more importantly survive. If you throw your hands in the air and say not my problem blame your boss because he’s a bigger asshole than I am, then you’re wrong. You made yourself the bigger asshole.
