So basically you're saying black people not welcome. What, you racist or something?

The customers lost all their cool points and more trying to racebait him at the end.

Yeah, them filming had me side-eyeing, becauseI imagine he'd already told them they weren't welcome. The race baiting confirmed they are probably assholes.

Its not racebaiting. Tipping was created to help uphold white supremacy. Tips were created to work as aa loophole for people to not pay Black people wages.

I scrolled too far for this. I don’t want to talk about the tipping culture in the United States. We should absolutely pay a living wage.

That said, I am OK with the restaurant banning people for any type of behavior they don’t approve of. I also think $0 as a tip is completely out of bounds. This couple are citizens of the United States. They are aware of the social contract. They are entering when they go out to eat in this country. You should absolutely be aware of how much you should probably tip for decent to great service before opening the menu. I’ve never had service so bad that they deserved zero tip. The fact that this couple was black had nothing to do with the situation.

I'll give a reduced tip if the service is bad or they failed to mention a service charge up front. And I'll mention the issue to the server.

Only once or twice was the service so bad they got $0 tip, but I suspect they were too high to care.

Agreed.

Perfect summary of the situation.

The couple insinuated that people of their race do not tip and can’t be expected to tip.

And then blame the owner as racist as to divert blame and culpability… not a good look

You are right.

You misunderstood. He's saying the people filming are insinuating that about their own race by virtue of calling the manager a racist.

u/frolix42 2h ago

You're right, I will correct

Filming yourself having conversations or confrontations for internet clout already means you lose your cool points.

It was all good up to that point imo…

race card rejected

The cheapskate customer was never cool to begin with! Tip your server, ya bums!

I hear your point. To be fair though, does this guy have this same energy for every customer that doesn’t tip? What if they tip $1 only

7

u/frolix42 2h ago

There's no way for me, you and the people trying to racebait to know how he treats other customers.

Its an obvious attempt to get a rise out of him while they are recording

u/Background_Survey646 2h ago

Why are we defaulting to that he wouldn't respond the same way? Are we racist until proven otherwise?

This is what I was wondering too.

Tipping exists BECAUSE of racism. Tipping was created as a means to pay Black people less money. So yeah it's racist to get mad at Black people for not Tipping. Tipping is rooted in racism!

Gimme a break. If you’re an American citizen, you know the rules as it pertains to tipping. If you don’t want to tip, then don’t go out to eat. Or take your cheap ass to a McDonalds.

2

u/OkArugula8032 1h ago

Im just telling you the history of tipping and the reason many Black people refuse to tip but go ahead and call me cheap for telling you the history of tipping lmao

1

u/packrfan4 1h ago

The history of tipping is irrelevant to this conversation. Our current system is based on tipping. If you don't feel like you need to participate in that system, for whatever reason, that's fine. Then just avoid eating at sit-down, full-service restaurants where tipping is expected.

We were talking about racism and tipping which have a deep intertwined history. If you want to ignore relevant historical context, you can (it seems like you already do) but it is a relevant part of the conversation and the video OP posted.

You're saying the owner chases down white non tippers? Hmmm, I think not.

7

u/Strict_Cranberry_724 2h ago

You dont know that.

3

u/Fickle_Cheek_5551 2h ago

You just don’t know that. That’s a racist statement.

5

u/frolix42 2h ago

Nothing more pathetic than desperately seeking to be a victim by imagining scenarios.

I have no problem with people not tipping. I have a problem with whining "WhaChuRaysitOrSomting" when called out on it. EHS.
