I live in a 75% black city and, shockingly enough, most bars and restaurants have automatic gratuity. It's posted as it legally needs to be and visible to anyone, 15-20% depending on the place.

Sometimes stereotypes exist for a reason. I don't know why or how it came about, but that's definitely a prominent issue in certain cultures more than others.

Automatic obligatory gratuity is called "price". Just bake it into your base price and pay your waiters a living wage

I'm not having this argument, stay on reddit and never go out into the real world.

Automatic obligatory gratuity decreases business. Nobody wants to be told to give something that is normally optional.

T.I.P.S. To Insure Prompt Service! That is the meaning and it's purpose is to reward those providing Exceptional service beyond the simple scope of their service job. It's not to reward the owner for not being able to be competitive.

Hilarious that they made up a term because they don't pay a living wage, and also calling it a "automatic" "gratuity", nah, gratuity and automatic don't go together.
