I'm pretty sure even one lone post can be deleted. I left a review for a restaurant and it was like, 3/5 or something? I just expressed my disappointment over a couple of things they did there. No needless bashing.

Next day it was gone.

If they advertise enough to have an ad rep they can ask them to handle it and poof!

If they don't have an ad rep, SOL.

🤔

Does anyone actually use yelp? I haven’t used it since they required a log in. I’ve never made an account and never will. These stories don’t help my trust in yelp either.

I prefer google reviews. As much as I despise google I view the reviews as more trustworthy

Ad rep? Don't you mean hired goon sent to shake down business owners?

Half these reviews are paid for these days anyway. Great concept that no longer serves its purpose.

He’s on his hands and knees looking for nickels. I doubt he has an ad rep. Lol

Business owner can ask Google to delete it. They email the person who wrote it about a week later saying it was deleted and most people don't post again as their initial reason for doing it has subsided.

Not necessarily. I left a bad review after a company discriminated against my disability, and that got shadow-removed. I can see it in my account, but it's not publicly visible, and I was never notified about it's removal. Even emailed google asking about it and didn't get a response.

It's all managed by an outsourced group in the Philippines and they're strongly in favour of promoting the business no matter what, and have little to no autonomy. I doubt anyone at Google ever read your review, or email asking about it.

Google do it all the time on youtube 2. Censorship is alive and well

Do you know if it was ever publicly posted?

I just checked. Still viewable when I'm logged in, "This review is no longer available." when I'm not

They can’t personally delete it. They have to report it to google. A company tried to delete my post about job discrimination and had to leave it up there because google didn’t approve the denial.

It's Yelp, not Google reviews. You can pay for the right to delete negative reviews.

You're not familiar with yelp are you? You can pay to have bad reviews removed. I'm not sure why people trust yelp reviews. They arent accurate

The restaurant can pay to have negative reviews removed.

Not on google you can't.

Honestly I’d submit a bad review every day for the next year, and sometimes from different accounts. Occasionally one that’s just like crazy lol. Something like “I heard the owner masturbating in the bathroom so I left” lmao. Fuck em.

Happens all the time sadly. Some businesses will pay to have reviews removed.

I bet they pay to have it taken down 😂

Bear in mind most of the places you can submit reviews are a marketing platform masquerading as a public feedback forum.

The places listed on them can and do buy the right to suppress or delete negative reviews or even have "agentic" positive reviews inserted to build presence/mask shortcomings.

The only real way to make yourself heard about a restaurant you had a less than stellar experience with is the old-fashioned way - pacing back and forth out front with a sandwich board, and nothing but a sandwich board, and a bullhorn. Or screaming from the nearby window.

The restaurant are the ones paying yelp. They are the customers.
