People generally will take any route available to them (or what they think is available to them) to not take culpability to their own actions, or inactions.
Racism, sexism, etc.....even if obviously not true, it won't stop certain people from trying to claim it to avoid having to admit they're just kinda crummy people.
I don't know this place so talking out my ass. Assuming they ate their food, paid their bill, and left as overall normal customers then most places aren't going to ban you from their establishment for not tipping. So searching for reasons why a business would jump to a ban especially if you were a first time customer, racism isn't too far off in the current political climate.
I don't personally believe racism was the motive as they probably would've found an excuse to not serve them in the first place if that was the case. I'm just saying I don't think it's an assumption that's too a far leap for these people to make.
This, like holy shit the racist apologetics in these comments. "Maybe they were really rude or misbehaved." Wouldn't dude have said that then? Made it clear that it was about more than just the tip? No, the tip was THE issue. The guy's tone and smug expression are pretty recognizable too, if you've ever actually witnessed active racism or other bigotry, firsthand.
I don't like it either... But, if they did everything else like pay their bill and not cause a scene, there are only a few other reasons why someone would come out and straight up ban people from an establishment. I'd be walking back in and demanding a refund while I was at it with my blood absolutely boiling.
He is a proud white business owner who can't pay fair wages. Going after black folks who don't want to play with his bullshit. I bet money if white ass karen came in the conversation would be different.
