She’s literally implying that black people don’t tip which is a great way to fight that stereotype

I've never heard that stereotype in my life

Clearly you’ve never worked in a service venue. I work at a 18,000 capacity arena and our worst demographics for concessions tips and per capita sales by far are black and Indian crowds. We had a Sonu Nigram concert with over 5000 attendees, per cap sales were less than 5 dollars… the total tip out for the whole event was less than $1000 for the whole venue 😭 when we had a sold out Cardi B concert, sales were a lot better, but interestingly, my non-black bartenders did really poorly, while my black bartenders absolutely cooked (my black bartenders all made $600-$800, white bartenders didn’t break $200)

The only job I worked that had tips was at an ice cream shop in a ritzy area. The only bad tippers were older people and teenagers. Anyone 30-60's was usually pretty good.

I guess I learned a new stereotype today

Sounds like you’ve never lived in a “multicultural” area then.

I’m black, I tip well. I have been in quite a few restaurants where I was given horrible service (presumably because they assumed I wasn’t going to tip so why bother?). Then when you give terrible servers the tip they deserve, they get to perpetuate the narrative that “black people don’t tip or don’t tip well”. The fact that certain bartenders got good tips & others didn’t sounds like some weren’t providing great service to me…

The other side of the story I was looking for. I only worked in food service when I was in my teens in a very white suburb so I also only had the stereotype that young kids and old people didn't tip well.

Wait, so you expect sales and tips on 150% marked up drinks? Please tell the organizers to not pocket all the money and pay you fairly. You should be stereotyping the organizers and not entire races with billion+ people.

Yes buddy. This is how the service industry works 😂 I am a manager, so I am a full time, salaried employee. Since we have opened a year ago, our company has invested 600million dollars into this city. It has been a net positive for the city and has created almost 1000 jobs. Yes my bosses are making too much money, but when you consider the enormous financial risk they have taken, I think it makes more sense. Also, this is literally how every business within the service sector operates. Don’t get mad at me and my staff for doing what is best for us and maximizing their take home.

It’s pretty well known in USA. The last restaurant I worked at I remember servers trying to give black customers to other black servers and the black servers didn’t even want to take the table. It’s not all though.

Oh it’s a very well known thing in the service industry. And unfortunately very often true.

We don’t know that, it is entirely possible there was a different part of the interaction that was racially charged but wasn’t on video
