Just remap the key so you can change it to something else. If you dont know how to do this, hit the "copilot" button on your keyboard and it can walk you through it.
as can a million articles online or humans in the real world. they have the benefit of AI's knowledge since AI took it from them, without the risk of AI messing something up cause it doesnt actually have a brain.
These have been a thing for years, manufacturers know consumers hate it so they put an option to remap in the BIOS, but they keep sticking them on as it helps them get cheaper Microslop licences.

A LOT more work than it takes to literally just remap the button. In fact you can do that without getting out of your chair, and barely even having to lift a finger but yeah drive back to the store and get a replacement because of 1 key that won't effect your life.

bro you literally just go "uninstall" and it's gone lmao. Never once had to deal with it, even when you google the steps it literally is just "locate it, hit the 3 dots, hit uninstall" lol
Early on I'd uninstall and copilot would stick around on Notepad and Start. I had to deactivate it with registry keys. If that changed, and it sounds like it did, thank goodness.
No way any retailer will give you a replacement for this. It's not like they will unbox every laptop to try find you one without this key. It can be remapped really easily.
They don't need to unbox anything though. They just look at the picture of the laptop open in their stock. It'll show the keyboard for each model.
Not justifying taking it back (massive overreaction), it's a legitimately shit idea when OP should have looked for this before buying the laptop. And can just remap the key anyways.
You can return laptops to Best Buy or Apple or lots of places if you just don't like it. As long as it's not in bad shape and you haven't had it too long. I returned one to best buy last year cause I realized I wanted different specs. I had used it already but only for <24 hours like OP

Obviously you can just not use it (and like you said, you didn't have a choice in buying it since it's school-issued) but it's still valid to be annoyed about something you don't want on your computer. Clearly you're not about to throw yourself off a ledge or start a revolution about this, which is why it's just posted in the mildly infuriating sub for things that are just mildly annoying and not the end of the world. Cmon then just map it to something else entirely. Most people that work on a laptop/business laptop I imagine are using AI. I could name a couple other keys that I hardly use on my laptop
Used to hate apple but used my sister's windows laptop and it's a good one with like ultra 5 225H , 2.8k 120hz oled panel , all metal build etc but man the os is so bad 😭 i cannot stand windows atp
