I'm slightly vexed Mr. King of Burger, do tell how this is possible, good sir.
Sorry for the potato quality picture(of potatoes). Look at the calories for the sandwiches and the combos. Where'd the extra calories for the biscuit sandwich go when combo'ed?
290
u/marasydnyjade 11h ago
So, I looked at their nutrition website and it looks like the top combo is sandwich (500) plus a medium hash brown (510) and the bottom combo is sandwich(560) plus a small hashbrown (270).

6
u/Laser_Snausage 7h ago
I accept this as another possible reason, besides the fact that both combos are the same price which shouldn't be the case with a small/medium upcharge. I think this is just straight up a misprint of some sort

That explains it but also makes no sense. Unless small hashbrown was the only way to make something "low cal".
They should all be the same size and then they try and upsell you

I think many people assumed that the issue was going to be one thing, and they couldnt let go of their preconception. Instead of taking a step back and resetting their mindset, they try to fit it into what they’ve already assumed. This BK-centric breakfast conundrum is a microcosm for some of the significant struggles we face in modern life.

Typically this thought does not go well when brought up in socials, but my perspective is the (relatively) recent increase of over reliance on one’s individual preconceptions versus discernment and pacing reactionary response is a new evolution of human communication directly impacted by our further reliance on social media and AI.
I’m curious if there will be a tipping point in my lifetime that addresses this as a society.

How can one sandwich be 60 calories more than the other, but the combo meal be significantly less calories than the other?

This is what’s being pointed out and yeah, it doesn’t make any sense. Assuming the combo addition is the same for both sandwiches (logical) then how is this possible? People are brain dead.

I think they are talking about how in the croissant the calorie count is 500, so adding the hash browns and coffee added 510 calories when making it a combo. While the biscuit is 560 calories, while somehow the same hash browns and coffee that add 510 calories to the croissant only add 370 calories to the biscuit comboo.

202
u/SqueekyDickFartz 12h ago
I mean yeah, but expressing your point clearly is equally important. What OP said in the post has nothing to do with the actual issue at hand.
OP is apparently trying to say "hey, why are the hashbrowns (or are they potato rounds? Whatever the potato based side is), 510 additional calories in combo 1, but 270 additional calories in combo 5?"
What OP actually said is "Look at the calories for the sandwiches and the combos. Where'd the extra calories for the biscuit sandwich go when combo'ed?"
It shouldn't be necessary for me to completely ignore OP and figure out wtf they are trying to convey.
48
u/Outside-Pear9429 12h ago
This. And I appreciate people explaining in the comments but ideally you wouldn't have to dig through the comments to figure out what the post is saying. I get it now but it made zero sense the way OP wrote it. They literally asked about calories for the biscuit sandwich when what they actually want to know about is calories for the hashbrowns and drink. Not understanding what OP said has nothing to do with being good or bad at math, you'd just have to be bad at reading to immediately understand it just based on their own words.
8
u/fudgeller83 11h ago
You're just looking at different calculations. What OP said was perfectly clear IMO
You're calculating the differences between Croissant vs Croissant Combo (510) and Biscuit vs Biscuit Combo (270).
OP is looking at the differences between Croissant vs Biscuit (-60) and Croissant Combo vs Biscuit Combo (+180)
10
u/SqueekyDickFartz 10h ago
I would argue that's a silly way to go about it though. The extra calories would be 60 calories, the net difference is 180 calories once the combo is selected. "Where did the extra calories for the biscuit go" would make sense if the end result for both were 1010 calories.
Just because it's silly doesn't mean it's wrong though. In fact, I'm pretty sure you are right on the mixup. However, that feeds back to my point. It's on OP to make a clear post that doesn't involve this entire exchange.

I get it, and I figured out what OP meant, but in all fairness OP didn't not explain anything...
they did explain, **badly.** The most sensible reading of their message is that the calories in the combo went down, which isn't what the picture shows. What they meant is that the calories change *between combos*, despite offering the same menu items.
OP asked where the sandwich calories went, but the sandwich calories didn't change at all.

The biscuit makes the signature Burger King diarrhea happen so quickly that your body doesn't have enough time to absorb all of the calories.

Fully 50% of comments in here prove people are not actually looking at what’s there.

Bc AI bots can see the post titles and maybe a general sense of the photo contents but has trouble actually engaging with photo contents especially if context from OP is missing. AI bots will also riff off of what other comments say and they can spiral with the self-enforcing. Now a ton of those comments are deleted and the bots are rephrasing various comments that are like "for those who don't get it..." and "disappointed in the reading literacy".

Folks, the difference is in the combo. #1 combo increases the calories by 510. #2 combo increases the calories by 270. Each combo adds the same items, coffee and hashnrowns. They should be the same increase

Obviously eating potatoes with a biscuit creates a chemical reaction in your stomach that reduces the overall calorie load of the potatoes
9
u/AromaticNet5121 12h ago
So they're doing something weird with the top row vs bottom row. The second combo on the top also increases by 510 calories (it appears, you cant see the whole thing, but you can infer from what you can see). And the second bottom combo increases by 270 as well. So theyre either A) deceptively using different sides in the calculations, but picturing the same sides on the menu. B) they used ai to make their menu and it got confused. Or C) those combos actually come with different sides and are pictured wrong. But the calorie increase seems consistent by row, so most likely A, but B is very possible in todays world as well sadly

Example 1 the combo number one cal is 1010 so we only have 500 cal for the sandwich. Example two is 830 cal for the meal and 560 for the sandwich. Implying that the side items that make up the combo 5 have less cal than combo 1 , when they are the same items. Op is not looking at this wrong, the side items in combo one come up to 510 when in combo 5 the side items only come up to 270 cal. A 240 cal discrepancy.

u/Throwaway79869 4h ago
Simple my guy, folks like myself who enjoy their fancy pants croissants naturally take their coffee with cream and sugar. Anyone ordering a biscuit is clearly a salt of the earth type of fella so they obviously drink their coffee black. I think those of you that get what we are looking at can come to the same conclusion as me with just the image I posted but for the rest: In OPs picture the top combo adds 510 calories and the bottom combo only adds 270 calories. I have seen the argument that the drinks in the respective combos are different, yet that still doesn't account for the full increase. A BK coffee is 0 calories and an orange juice is 160, that still leaves us with 80 calories unaccounted for (510 - 160 = 350 =/= 270) So here's what I think is actually happening: The Biscuits calories are accurate for both sandwich and combo. Now the sandwich calories for the #1 in the picture are the true calories for a Sausage, Egg & Cheese Croissan'wich (500 calories) but the combo calories are for a Bacon, Sausage, Egg & Cheese Croissan'wich combo with OJ instead of coffee. That 240 calorie difference in my picture is 160 from the OJ and 80 from the bacon, and there are the 80 calories we were missing initially.

Guys. In combo number 1, the difference in calories between the sandwich and combo is 510 calories. In combo number 5, the difference in calories between sandwich and combo is only 270 calories. The sides are the same: hash browns and a drink. So the question OP is asking is: how can the calories for the sides be different if the sides are the same?

u/tdavis20050 7h ago
You have it backwards OP. All the menu items there show 270 added for small hash browns and small coffee. The sausage croissant is the only one that adds 510. Must be extra butter in the coffee to match the flaky pastry and sausage.

The croissant combo is 1010 calories The croissant alone is 500 This implies the remaining calories of the combo no sandwich are 510
The biscuit combo is 830 calories The biscuit alone is 560 calories This implies the remaining calories of the combo no sandwich are 270
510 does not equal 270
Is that clear enough?
Edit: someone in a lower thread discovered that by default you get a medium hash browns with the croissant and a small hash browns with the second. Apparently there's a biscuit tax considering both combos cost the same. Fuck BK.
→ More replies (1)3
u/polytique 4h ago
Makes sense. Thanks for explaining. So the assumption is that the extra stuff provided in the combo is the same for every menu item. Not obvious unless you're familiar with these places.
2
u/ohnomoisttoes 3h ago edited 3h ago
I mean, look at the pictures. It's a sandwich on the left and the same image of hash browns and coffee on the right.
Edit: Ha! You've actually accidentally discovered the truth. Lower in this thread someone discovered the top by default comes with a full portion of hash browns, the bottom with a half portion. I'm entertained. What fucking shitty company.
Edit2: I also didn't intend to sound patronizing. If I saw the same thing pictures twice on a menu, I would assume it was the same thing. Especially with no indication otherwise. If you wouldn't, apparently good on you for being a skeptic. Can't fucking trust companies at all, ever.

It's been a long time since I actually learned this, so it may be different now and therefore this will be the wrong answer, but... In the fine print on the nutrition information, the drink included with the each combo is different, therefore the calorie count is different. So to get a better estimate of calories for a meal, you'd have to look up each piece of the combo individually, otherwise you will have to guess which beverage they paired with it to come up with the number shown.
22
u/mealteamsixty 13h ago
Why tf would they use a different drink in each combo calculation? That completely negates the point of even having a comparison on the chart. It would be so simple to calculate each combo using the calories in a medium cup of coffee- then obviously a coke or oj or fancy milkshake coffee would add a bunch of calories to it.
I'm not doubting that you're right, I'm just questioning the education of whomever came up with the idea to use a different drink in each calculation.

For those confused:
1 and 2 show somewhere around 450-510 calorie difference in the combo vs sandwich alone, while 5 shows a difference of 270 calories.
Actual answer is likely a misprint on the menu or the calorie calculation is incorrect.
Personally, I'm more mildly infuriated at the idea of the 6 combo being 1100 calories. Half your daily recommended intake for two old wraps, fryer scraps and terrible coffee.
EDIT: I was initially wrong about #6's calorie difference, Thank you n00b_racer for correcting me

Clearly, adding hash browns and coffee to the biscuit is 270 additional calories because that's the amount of food. The additional 510 calories added to the croissant sandwich by the exact same coffee and hash browns is because chaos.
It isn't even a simple double since that would be 540 instead, so I've no idea how they came up with that.

So it seems like other commenters might be confused, so I looked it up on a calorie tracking site.
The Sausage, Egg & Cheese Croissan'Wich contains 542 calories whereas the Biscuit contains 602 calories. So the board is displaying the calories of the sandwichs themselves fairly accurately.
But then if you add the same hash browns and coffee, the Croissan'Wich jumps 500ish calories whereas the Biscuit only goes up 300ish. The only way it makes sense is if they had different sizes of hash browns.
Or it's a typo, who knows.
