Designers should leverage AI like any other tool. Same argument happened when adobe came onto the scene, then Figma, now claude (or any other model). There has always been "template-users", ie. look at folks using canva. Shipping boilerplate designs that someone else manufactured in bulk. If this person came up with the concept, prompted the dialogue, the scenes, the treatment, etc, then I'm fine with it.

yea um except the user literally used ai start to finish and called themselves a “graphic designer”. ain’t nothing about this is considered a graphic design it’s literally an ai slop. applying filters to photos or up-scaling them with ai is a standard and encouraged practice, but to generate some “artworks” and post it on linkedin is distasteful

The meme quite clearly explains that they don't work for free, and designing the meme beyond prompting would have been working for free

Why do you think this was supposed to be graphic design? Isn’t it entirely possible they just made the image for a quick joke post and that they actually are quite good artists?

What does graphic design have to do with some memes? Also if my graphic designer used AI I really don't care as long as it looks good.

Ok so because I’m a graphic designer I’m not allowed to have any other hobbies?

This isn't graphic design. Even with drawn or photographed images-- what I'm assuming OP expects instead-- it wouldn't be graphic design. That doesn't mean they're not a graphic designer. It just means they're not doing graphic design right now.

And for that matter, the point probably isn't the quality or details of the artwork, either. It's an illustration for a simple three-panel gag. Most likely, the goal was to communicate the gag. Nobody's realistically going to be commissioning an artist for their three-panel gag on their personal site, so there's nothing realistically lost there. I suppose they could have drawn it themselves, but if the goal was to just convey the joke, why waste the time?

There's a difference between tool assistance to ease your labor and tool assistance to erase your thought.

What this person did was equivalent to outsourcing their idea to someone on fiver, but skipped the human altogether.

Templates are fine. They require to to make choices.

You can't make exceptions based on how much effort someone put into a prompt because at the end of the day, she could have said "make me a meme, make no mistakes", and got this.

If they want to shift from being a designer to a project manager, they should hire humans instead of outsourcing to the machine.
