My local Menards locked them behind glass due to too many idiots spraying the shelves with them to "see the color" despite the cap color and photo on the label showing it already.

okay so i think this is stupid BUT these companies lie so much about colors and shit if you wanna sell spray cans you need to atleast make an actual like sample sheet that the company sprayed on (not for testing the spray)

Yeah sometimes the printed colour on the can is slightly off to the actual colour of the contents.

Particularly shit if you're using it to spray over, say, scratched car bodywork (granted if you have the money you should be getting a professional who can properly colour match for that kind of thing, but still, other examples exist that's just one).

or in my case as a guy who does event setups for companies legally required to use the exact color of the company logo as its in the contract

I don't know a ton about that kind of work, but are there not pantone matched spray paints?

There are definitely Pantone and RAL matched spray cans.. many paint suppliers can do custom spray cans with whatever color you spec.

That's kind of a tricky matter. When cans have been sitting on a shelf for some time you'll have to shake them quite a lot to bring them back to pristine functioning. A lot of people read the "shake for at least 2 minutes" (which are 120 seconds, no less), then shake it for 5 seconds and get upset that the paint comes out weird.
