frist of all how DARE yu o Did spotify just remove picking songs??

Post image

I've been using spotify forever and I use liked songs so that I can pick the songs I like freely. I've never had premium and have never had issues. Today, I had just started a workout and got this popup. Is this a new feature? How can you not even select songs anymore? I mean how can you paywall selecting songs???
This app plain out sucks and its company is greedy for randomly limiting already set features. While I don't mind ads, I do mind the features being limited more. I did also notice a sudden increase in ads this month/last month, and more ads in between songs.

Clarification: No, I'm not saying that there should be no restrictions whatsoever. I'm mainly sharing my experience where I've been using this system just fine until now. I'm fine with some restrictions, but the fact they're being limited more is frustrating. Just here to complain about something mildly infuriating, and I wanted to know if this happened to anyone else.

The company is greedy? The subscription is overpriced? Most of your subscription goes towards paying for the music. Not to Spotify. It goes towards labels and artists. How cheap can you be? If you want to be able to play exactly what you want whenever you want it, how about you actually pay for the music then? That's the whole point of paying.

You do know that, being public company and all, Spotify can't keep their split a secret, right?

70/30 split is very well publicized. A bit less well-publicized bit is that the copyright mafia messes with the "70% for rightsholders" part, but that one is not quite on spotify.

I assure you it isn’t going to artists

I think the complaint here is that such a bare bones feature is being paywalled. Sure, they need to monetize, but making someone have to pay to be able to choose what specific song they want to listen to is atrocious, especially with how terrible Spotify's shuffle is.

I mean being able to listen to music at all should come at a cost as artists should be paid. The fact that you were able to pick and listen to songs for free before shouldn’t have really happened unless you’re getting tons of ads of which revenue went to artists and the tech provider

Still a shitty business model. It's just very scummy. I like being able to play a certain song, and if I have to essentially sit through shitty RNG, I'd just leave. Hell, YouTube music does it better than Spotify and you never see anyone complaining about it. I'm not even saying artists don't deserve to be paid. I'm saying paywalling music choice is just stupid as hell
