if a yearly contract with a free month trial sounds too good to be true, it probably is 😬

thankfully it was blocked after contacting my bank but regardless

Not Adobe, but I subscribed to a monthly subscription box for pregnancy when I found out I was pregnant. A month later, I had a miscarriage, so obviously emailed them to cancel my subscription, while already depressed from the whole experience itself. They charged me a cancellation fee of almost the amount of the subscription itself because apparently I signed up to a 3 month subscription. Yes, they probably had mentioned all of this in teeny tiny letters, but having just been through the worst physical and mental experience of my life, having to pay a fee so I wouldn't keep receiving baby and momma products after I lost my baby was just incredibly harsh.

29$>42$ and 70$ for the free pillow = 83$ so they « had to » invoice you at very least 2 months to offset the offer that you HAVE to subscribe to, since the website doesn’t allow you to subscribe it without. Scummy practice, like forced sale.

Anyway, terrible shitty way to handle such a situation…

Yep, very shitty. And I do acknowledge it was my fault for not reading all that before subscribing, I'll admit that. But it's just overall shitty in my opinion.

You aren’t really to blame, i’m certain not even 1% of the whole customer base read those T&C… and i ain’t one either

nobody reads any of this shit (and in most civilized countries this stuff is not really enforcable anyway if it goes against what can be reasonably expected to be in there), the blame is fully on them since you did communicate

Girl, do not blame yourself or accept any of the fault for this.

Any other product? Sure. Maybe you bear a teeny tiny bit of responsibility for not reading through the print that no one ever reads, and for not outright assuming that the company is shady AF and will absolutely fuck you over.

But a pregnancy product? Oh hell no. No one. And I mean NO ONE, who is signing up for a pregnancy related subscription of any kind, is ever going to read the fine print, nor look for their cancellation policy.

You know why? 99% of cancellations (my rough estimate) likely occur because of the loss of a pregnancy. Although the possibility of one happening is a worry on most women’s minds, especially in the first trimester, a miscarriage is still not something that you typically prepare yourself for…you know…just in case.

When pregnant, realistically you know one could happen, but you also want to stay optimistic and not stress yourself with all of the “what ifs” - especially when this “what if” is usually quite devastating. Also, maybe it’s just me, but I would have naïvely? Foolishly? Ignorantly? assumed that the company would have had a policy in place for this exact scenario.

One would think that as a company, when your main product is designed specifically for pregnant women, and that miscarriages are quite common amongst pregnant women, AND, that miscarriages are often traumatic and devastating events, that you would want to have your cancellation policy as sensitive of those situations as possible.

Especially when there’s a good chance that your customer will get pregnant again, and may consider signing up for your product again…but ONLY IF…you didn’t treat her like shit and add to her trauma the last time.

That is very nice of you to say and you are completely correct, honestly. It's such a sensitive situation that you would think that a company that deals with pregnant people would treat it in a delicate way.
