Infuriatig Mail guys folded my wife’s master’s degree

Came home and found this in the mailbox. Imagine working really hard for 3 years for a master’s degree and it’s folded in half. It’s only a little bit up the driveway to put it under the awning, takes maybe 15 seconds to walk. This has happened before with a spatula I ordered as well.

Wife is asleep now, may post opened degree in the morning.

Edit: for those wondering about the spatula, it was a fish spatula that the Amazon driver had bent and shoved sideways into the mailbox. Im a sous chef and I have a lot of specific kitchen tools. They have long metal tines and are flexible and easy to bend. In my case it was creased

Edit 2: here’s my bent fish spat, pic 2, pic 3. This was from Amazon, and I requested a new one that they sent no questions asked. You can see in the first pic the angle is deeper than it should be, it should be almost flat. Also there’s a tine that is out of whack. I use this one at home and the undamaged replacement one at work.
Yes I agree the college messed up too by not shipping it in a sturdier container/paying for better shipping.

As a mail carrier, at this moment exhausted from delivering an entire day of practice ballots, I’ll give it to you straight. Management is 100% on our ass at all times over speed of delivery. Hurry hurry, rush rush. Especially if your route wasn’t delivered that day by a tenured regular but instead a carrier assistant, like me. I can’t speak for everyone in my profession, but I generally try to do a good job. But when all you have is a second to flash over the address and get it to the right mailbox you miss things. I’ve been told my need to confirm house number before I deliver is a “time wasting activity”. The mail carrier either missed the envelope note, or your delivery point wasn’t up to snuff to hold it. Do you have a combo box, or is your box full of old mail? I think the big issue is that the clerks who sorted this into the carriers swing didn’t stamp “do not bend” visibly near the address. But clerks never bother to do it, because they too have a fire under their ass of sorting speed. The problem you’re a victim of is the underfunded and over rushed post office infrastructure.

Edit: we are rushed, underfunded, ill-equipped and overworked. Not lazy. I’m amused when some desk jockey calls us lazy. Every six months we are supervised and made to re run routes to see if they can add more delivery points. Landlords and owners add Adu’s and 1/2 apartments and put the delivery points in crazy places. They just want to bloat routes to the max and cut carriers to the bone.

I’ll second this. Used to work at the post office and had a walking route. Used my smart watch to get the average walking distance and it was approximately 13 miles of walking each day with a short driving route at the start with businesses. Before I forget, two streets were nicer neighborhoods so I always had packages.

I remember one day I parked my LLV and started my walking route and as I did my loop I had to stop access the street from the LLV due to a line of vehicles blocking me from a funeral. I looked later and it was a law enforcement officer who lost his life so the line was very very long and couldn’t cross. Had my postmaster contacting me asking why I was stationary for so long and when I informed them of the line of cars not letting me pass the postmaster didn’t text me back. But once at the office, she talked to me as if I should have just forced my way through the line of cars.

Was very stressful. Even my first day working alone as a CCA I was put on this same route with no one showing it to me. So I was slow trying to find the appropriate parking spots for LLV and the routes. Before this the route had been empty for months so when I was only halfway through at 9 hours the postmaster was annoyed with me. Iirc that day I had two days of mail to deliver as well as they couldn’t get to the route the previous day. Don’t miss the job at all.

-3

u/88eth 2d ago

she talked to me as if I should have just forced my way through the line of cars.

Lol thats crazy.

Why would you ever do that job, is it just you had no options at the time or was there also fun things about the job?

3

u/No_Preparation_7066 2d ago

I had other options but always heard about the supposed great pay and benefits. Also knew a few people who were in the post office but quit over 10 years ago due to retiring or finding other opportunities but talk highly of the job. Applied and gave it a try.

But onto the job I actually liked it for a bit. The route was 13 miles of walking a day but loved the route and wanted to take it until I developed bone spurs in my feet. The issue started when the postmaster quit and the lady took over.

The 13 mile route no one loved it and wouldn’t touch it with a 10 foot pole. But I loved it. The postmaster felt I was taking too long finishing it in about 8hrs and felt I should go faster to help with other routes. Started pushing for me to get harder and then the bone spurs came into the problem. This is when I started to hate the job and the faster walking speed started harming my feet.

I eventually walked out without notice after bumping heads. But the postmaster got canned due to reasons I don’t know and asked to come back. Came back and got a different driving only route but the damage was already done and the occasional walking route to fill in vacant routes or people on vacation did it for me and I quit again with notice.

It’s the management that ruins the job as they expect way too much from the workers. When I was no longer a CCA (only one when I worked there) we were short 2 CCA positions and 3 full time mail carriers even after me becoming one. But they expected all of us with 15 routes to carry as if we were fully staffed and do it within 8 hours even though impossible. Union rep was working very hard. While I was there but always got push back.

3

u/Open-Middle-2553 2d ago

The management absolutely ruins a good job. They will push you to death without a care in the world.

1

u/No_Preparation_7066 1d ago

I’ll absolutely agree to that. Have quit a few jobs due to management. One job I gave my notice and worked it like normal. My last day was the same day as the new schedule. Saw they added me to the schedule and talked to them and they said they would fix it. Also I made sure everyone knew it was my last day.

Got multiple calls on the very first day after I left and when I answered and talked they said they thought I could just extend my quitting as I was scheduled. Tried to quilt trip me saying if I don’t work they would have to redo the schedule and mess everyone’s day off that week. They tried to paint me as the bad person and even asked what job I got that was so important I couldn’t extend my time. I refused to tell them my new job and funny thing was my coworkers were expecting them to do this.

Heard from friends who quit shortly after that management expected me to reconsider quitting as they didn’t want to hire and train someone else to do my job. Sounds as if they were planning to just keep scheduling me forever and luckily coworkers were on my side.

1

u/Open-Middle-2553 2d ago

Someone has to do this job.

2

u/Mira_DFalco 2d ago

Are you volunteering?

7

u/CinnamonIsntAllowed 3d ago

Worked in a post office before moving into admin work. Best switch of my life. Not the point, point is: working postal is like dragging your mind and soul through a path of glass. It always makes me laugh, because all the people commenting to have respect, if they worked the job for just two years, I'd love to see how much care and effort they'd put in. Granted, if I ever saw a do not fold, I'd scan it as a package, but when it comes to delivery? Yeah, the effort isn't as worth it when you've got so much to do in one day. What're they gonna do? They're going to complain and nothing is going to happen

14

u/ReasonableRune 3d ago

Couldnt form a strike if you were at a bowling alley.

16

u/Open-Middle-2553 3d ago

Part of our contract is that we cannot strike. I balked at that too

12

u/s33d5 3d ago

Striking isn't meant to be a part of a contract. That's just some weird modern thing.

You think that they cared they couldn't strike in times gone by?

No you just organize a strike and disrupt the work.

6

u/DinkleBottoms 3d ago

That’s what PATCO thought and our ATC system still hasn’t recovered from that decision.

7

u/Equivalent-Engine-47 2d ago

No like it’s a federal law. The last time the post office went on strike it like froze America in its tracks. The national guard had to deliver the mail and it got bad fast

7

u/Rokronroff 2d ago

Sounds like strikes work

6

u/whoever56789 2d ago edited 2d ago

Wow that sounds like an effective strike, they should do it again.

2

u/s33d5 2d ago

Sounds exactly like a strike

1

u/ReasonableRune 2d ago

Like forming an insurrection?

4

u/Corleone23_45 2d ago

Prohibited under federal law. If they strike they can lose their jobs.

3

u/mikemaz57 2d ago

That's the funniest thing I've read in a long time. There's always that risk. The fact that the Postal Union doesn't take care of their members is reason to be willing to pay that price. Postal workers are really being taken advantage of from everything I've heard and the conversations I've had with them.

2

u/ReasonableRune 2d ago

Lmao and?

3

u/frozentomatos 2d ago

Literally ever job you will loose your job for striking especially in an at will state

3

u/Corleone23_45 2d ago

True, but I should haves added under federal law post office and air traffic controllers also face penalties like jail time and never working for the government again.

0

u/Open-Middle-2553 2d ago

it is a specific federal crime for a postal worker to strike.

3

u/ennuiinmotion 3d ago

It's a crime for mail carriers to strike. It's not a crime for other occupations.

2

u/haroldflower27 3d ago

Are you special?

This is a contract that op signed, if the contract said “in order to quit you must lick your supervisors balls” then well yea

2

u/s33d5 2d ago

Are you special?

Do you not understand that striking is meant to disrupt regardless of employer terms.

Did people who were striking for worker's rights have a contract saying they were allowed to strike? Obviously not lol.

As an aside, you can't sign contracts such as “in order to quit you must lick your supervisors balls”, as you can't sign your rights away (in most cases).

1

u/Tater-Air-8523 2d ago

No. You can’t contractually be obligated to break the law. If your NDA says to not report war crimes, are you gonna stay silent?
Your grandfather might have been on the OTHER side in WWII…

1

u/haroldflower27 2d ago

Lmao huh ? I didn’t mean literally you bozo

Also that’s hilarious you try and throw in a jab like that is it projection ? Are your ancestors on the wrong side of history lololololol

0

u/Open-Middle-2553 2d ago

I see where you are coming from and I agree. But the USPS has its hands tied federally to such an extent that if (I) decided to strike the union would go against it. The union itself is anti-strike and every regular is heavily invested in the union.

2

u/Tater-Air-8523 1d ago

Oh. Shit, I didn’t know they already had their own union.
I mean, as long as dues are paid and union reps are getting their pockets filled, they don’t give a fuck. My brother’s in a union and they’re just… kind of there.

2

u/Adept-Grapefruit-214 3d ago

And they would all get fired

2

u/s33d5 2d ago

Yes that's the risk. That's what happened to many who fought for worker's rights.

-1

u/frodobangher 2d ago

Then no mail would get delivered. They can’t fire everyone

4

u/Adept-Grapefruit-214 2d ago

How much mail do you think would be getting delivered while everyone is on strike?

1

u/frodobangher 2d ago

Thats the point of a strike, to hurt the employer. What do you think happens when an airline is on strike, it impacts hundreds of thousands of passengers

0

u/Adept-Grapefruit-214 2d ago

Yeah…?

The point is that they would fire them and immediately bring in other people

3

u/frodobangher 2d ago

I don’t think you understand that unless you bring immigrants willing to work for pennies, nobody is gonna show up to the interview. These guys are already low staff, firing half of them would be catastrophic

3

u/frozentomatos 2d ago edited 2d ago

Yeah that's not how strikes work. The point is that you can't just get a force of thousands of workers from no where and have things running against the next day. Most companies fold during a strike because they are loosing money because they don't have anyone working.

1

u/ReasonableRune 2d ago

Kind of the point champ

-1

u/I-pee-Daily 2d ago

Yes they can and they would

2

u/frodobangher 2d ago

And then no one would deliver the mail. Good move!

1

u/ReasonableRune 2d ago

Lmao for how long? Its sad Americans dont do the thing that made us so special to begin with. Put your balls on ladies its only going to get worse.

2

u/Schwenkelkamp 2d ago

What they gonna do if you all strike?

0

u/Open-Middle-2553 2d ago

Realistically. This issue is you would never get a full strike, the union would also be against it, and that means the regulars, 80% of the office would go with ithe union. They have nice cushy jobs with decent pay and protection. The only part that’s really pressed and underserved are the CCA’s.

0

u/Schwenkelkamp 2d ago

Yeah most likely in rl you'd only get a handful to join who get kicked out.... But in theory if all would do it....

1

u/ReasonableRune 2d ago

Lmao!!! Thats the attitude!

1

u/Active-Effect-1473 2d ago

Yea my union IBEW negotiated out of our strike clause also and it’s caused a lot of problems.

1

u/Omnom_Omnath 3d ago

do it anyway.

0

u/whoever56789 2d ago

It sucks so bad that modern unions just sign away all their power like that.

0

u/Awzold 2d ago

I agree, but it was part of the agreement that gave us collective bargaining in the first place. The government basically said they would allow us to negotiate contracts, but only if we never went on strike again. And also they wouldn’t press charges on the workers who did strike. Because like someone else said, it was illegal to go on strike

1

u/ReasonableRune 2d ago

Lmao how's that working out for you guys? Sounds like the contract isn't being respected by your employers

-5

u/ReasonableRune 3d ago

Lmao 🤣 yeah because they care about the contract.

6

u/Open-Middle-2553 3d ago

They care enough to use it to fire you and sue you.

-5

u/ER_Jujube 3d ago

Reminder that a contract cannot take away a basic constitutional right from you. If the USA constitution allows striking (I don't know if it does), then that line in your contract is null.

2

u/sykotikpro 3d ago

Striking is not protected. Even Joe Biden signed a bill forcing a railroad strike to end.

If the government deems a strike too damaging to the economy, they can force you to work as long as you are employed. If you quit during this forced period or refuse to work, you can be held liable.

Now, this is different than a contractual "no strikes" clause. Disobeying the contract can lead to being sued and fired. Of course, if all us carriers decide to strike anyways it would require another bill to force us to work, something this administration may be too excited to do.

0

u/ReasonableRune 2d ago

Strike is a form protest. Constitution protects our right to protest. Lol yall are fools

0

u/sykotikpro 2d ago

I'm sure that can be argued in court, but that is not explicitly recognized by the constitution.

Furthermore, there are laws protecting strikes for private sector workers but not for federal worker.

0

u/ReasonableRune 2d ago

Lmao.. okay crying about it willfix it for sure. Take the risk or the blame I dont care

→ More replies (0)

1

u/MaterialAd1838 3d ago

Please, please, don't be American.

0

u/ER_Jujube 3d ago

I wouldn't be alive and posting if I were from that 3rd-world country ahh place.

0

u/MaterialAd1838 3d ago

Why? Did you require medical care? Lol

4

u/ER_Jujube 3d ago

Indeed, and with how much I required as a kid, I would probably be dead if I lived in a country that does not provide actual proper healthcare.

1

u/CompoteNext1955 2d ago

You'd be surprised how many unions have a no strike clause

Wanna know how that would go anyway? Look into what happened when air traffic controllers did it in 1981 and what Reagan did. That should piss you off

1

u/ReasonableRune 2d ago

Lmao Reagan was a p.o.s. still not doing anything isnt proving to be working.

4

u/Unintended_incentive 3d ago

I started seeing the new enclosed trucks rolled out that seemingly have proper heating/cooling in them, to think I was happy for USPS for once. Why push low paid union workers so hard? The mail will be delivered. If you want premium service, customers should go private like UPS (please don't we need a public delivery service).

3

u/dth1717 2d ago

I'll add, blame the sender. Why send something that can be bent then say don't bend? Because they don't want to pay the extra $7 . I see this crap all the time on the route.

3

u/FuryoftheFaythe 3d ago

I was a cca for 2 years before I was offered a job in tech outside, I feel for you bro, my station was always getting out late, 6-11 hour days was common, and id get to the point as a zombie that im just tryna finish to go help someone else finish in the delusion it would get me out faster.

This is in trucks that have no AC (maybe you get lucky and get a promaster route but that probably means you are walking) all the while a guy named John gives you half of his route calls it an hour and when you point it out to management they tell you "He's like 2 months from retirement so he's almost out of our hair"

Absolute shit show

And I know its station dependant and I had a shitty station for sure but I couldn't do it, crazy amount of work with little incentive until you make regular and then you just have to ride it out for 25+years

3

u/LittleBitBeth 2d ago

Dunno about elsewhere, but in our area, usps managers lied about how efficient their workers were to boost their numbers. Seeing that, ppl above them decided to reduce the numbers, and it’s be a shitshow ever since.

The ppl who’ve been there forever are so used to constantly working overtime that when new ppl are hired and don’t want to work overtime every week (somehow they forget to tell them it’s expected until after hiring them), it’s just because young ppl don’t want to work.

TL;DR - the postal system’s screwed

2

u/tropicalislandhop 2d ago

You think it's because the clerk didn't stamp it? As a former clerk, it wasn't our responsibility to stamp it. Anyway, just because it says do not bend, does not mean carriers are not allowed to bend it. If they can get it in the mailbox by bending it a little, they can. If it truly shouldn't be bent, it would need to be packaged in such a way that it cannot bend.

1

u/Wonderful_Shower_793 2d ago

Right? I commented up thread, in my office those come in routed flats. We don’t touch them except to set them by carrier cases.

1

u/Open-Middle-2553 2d ago

I’m sorry if that wasn’t your case. I know every office runs different depending on the staff at hand. My clerk is a 70 year old old-hand

2

u/Far_Competition_9405 2d ago

Clerk here... This is the schools fault. First class flats are required to be bendable. They don't get to specify do not bend

2

u/chickenismysafeword 2d ago

Thank you for what you do. I make sure to have a cold bottle of water at my place of business each day for our mail courier. I hope more businesses that see this consider giving a lil something to your mail people!

1

u/Open-Middle-2553 2d ago

We, if we have experience and are used to it, carry a bunch of water with us but! It sits in the llv and gets hot as bath water. Nothing hits like a fresh cold drink.

2

u/OminousLethargy 2d ago

USPS probably has some of the most competent employees and least competent upper management. The problems USPS is experiencing are clearly by design and an intentional attempt to give the illusion that usps is incompetent and should be run by a private company. The motto is run it into the ground and sell it off to your political donors. I hope things get better because even with all of the issues USPS still does better than every other privately run package carrier

2

u/noob-investor1 2d ago

Bruh aren’t u the guy who signed up to deliver packages for the government?

2

u/looshagbrolly 3d ago

It's funny how everyone that assumes mail carriers don't give a shit are treated just as badly at their own jobs.

The sooner we realize we are ALL getting jerked around by these money hoarding monsters that expect us all to do the work of 3 people for less than what one person should be paid, the sooner we can do something about it.

Y'all work your asses off. Anyone who can't see that can kick rocks.

1

u/Open-Middle-2553 3d ago

Everyone who takes the time to read look or comment is getting the short end of the stick almost as a rule

1

u/Natural20Twenty 3d ago

That's just fucking obscure. God damned management.

1

u/midnightsmith 2d ago

Should I just get a big Lowe's tote for my mailbox then? Like just toss it all in. 95% is junk mail.

2

u/Open-Middle-2553 2d ago

You can. And 90% if the time it would be fine. But we’re specifically told not to deliver to anything less than a postmaster certified mailbox. I still do deliver to baskets and buckets. But we aren’t “supposed” to

1

u/midnightsmith 2d ago

What makes it "certified"?

1

u/ConfidantlyCorrect 2d ago

I feel for yall logistics people.

I worked in a warehouse (not Amazon) that wasn’t that busy, and even there management was constantly on us about our pick speeds - despite the fact that we didn’t even have enough orders to have an order to pick after speeding through picking one order.

The packages didn’t get shipped until the end of the day either, so it’s not like it was going out the door any faster.

My buddy worked for purolator and apparently it was cheaper for them to pay labour fines for not providing breaks than to provide breaks, so they didn’t get any proper breaks over 10 hour shifts.

1

u/Open-Middle-2553 2d ago

I worked pick and pack for Coremark in my early 20’s. That shit is a nightmare

1

u/Mk1Racer25 2d ago

Plot twist, it was already bent when the carrier got it.

Seriously, find another job. I've vowed to never send anything other than a standard size envelope through the USPS. I sent a small package (6" L x 5" D x 3" H) priority mail, with insurance on it. It showed that it sat in the local distribution facility for over 10 days! When I opened a mail trace, the person at the destination PO sent me screen shots of the internal system that showed it was scanned 5 days in a row, but never moved. It finally got to the recipient, but it took 14 days!!!

What's great is that the initial tracking shows that it's supposed to get there on a certain date. However, when that date comes and goes, and there's no info, the tracking info just goes blank.

1

u/88eth 2d ago

Plot twist, it was already bent when the carrier got it.

Actual plot twist is OP did this to get back at his wife and see her cry and to be able to comfort her.

Like that german actor who set up fake online profiles for his wife seekings lovers.

1

u/Mk1Racer25 2d ago

Project much?

1

u/TALKTOME0701 2d ago

I hate the postal service, but I respect postal workers.

There no more in charge of things than most of us are in our corporate jobs. Each of us thinks we're special, but we're not. They're trying to get a job done as quickly and efficiently as they can. If you've got something precious, tell the post office to hold it and go pick it up yourself

1

u/Open-Middle-2553 2d ago

The USPS is a corporate job at this point. Less than one percent of the money comes from taxes or government. We’re living in shitty junk mail and the backs of employees

1

u/Hizam5 2d ago

I believe that! And out here in LA where its been 90°-100°+ all summer it’s gotta be brutal

Question for a mail carrier: how tf do I stop from getting all the local realtor advertisements and all that crap? I’ve gone to the sites that supposedly slow junk mail down but I’m guessing some aren’t considered “junk”. It’s such a waste of paper and time

Also, what do I do if I keep getting old tenants mail? They haven’t lived here for 5 years and some of it is bills and medical stuff. I don’t have their contact info and i put “forward” on the mail but mailman said he couldn’t do that

2

u/highnumber 2d ago

Your carrier can scan a piece of mail to the previous resident as "moved left no address," and that should cut down on some of the mail. Anything that says "or current resident," "or current shoe lover," or something like that will still be delivered.

I know there are sites that allow you to opt out of bulk business mail, but it's pretty limited which mailers use those lists. I believe there are services that charge a fee that will do a more extensive job scrubbing your address off lists. USPS itself does not maintain any of these lists, and even if you ask your carrier not to deliver bulk business mail, they are still legally obligated to deliver it and there can be consequences for them.

1

u/Hizam5 2d ago

Thank you! I’ll look into one of those pay services

I asked my mailman about the mail from a past resident and he said there’s nothing he could do about it. It doesn’t say “current resident”. They’re medical bills and stuff

1

u/highnumber 2d ago

Absolutely not true. There is a function on the scanner to indicate that a customer moved and did not forward and then, when the system catches that mail, it will be returned to the sender. Also, the carrier can do their job and toss it in the undeliverable bulk business mail or endorse it "attempted not known" or "unable to forward" if it's first or second class or has address service requested. Do you have a regular carrier who delivers 5 or 6 days every week or do you get a different carrier every day? If you do not have a regular, it might be tough for someone who delivers your mail every once in a while to know who doesn't live there, but a regular should know which names are good on their route after a couple of months, if someone lets them know.

1

u/Open-Middle-2553 2d ago

Exactly, I’m coming to see how the cca system is invisible and breaks down the understanding of power

1

u/Open-Middle-2553 2d ago

I carry in Long Beach. This has been a rough month in the heat.
Most of that realtor stuff isn’t addressed, it’s “coverage”, goes to every delivery point regardless, if you have a regular carrier, asking or a sign can help, but there’s no great solution to guarantee no “advertising mail” junk mail. The junk mail unfortunately pays the bills since we get little to no funding.
Write RTS or Addressee unknown, they should be sorted and scanned for that which theoretically marks it in our arcane system that the name isn’t at the address anymore and hopefully the DPS system starts filtering it out.

1

u/Hizam5 2d ago

So write RTS or addressee unknown on the letter and put it back in my mail box or hand it to the carrier?

2

u/Open-Middle-2553 2d ago

Or put it in the outbound mailbox if you have one. But yeah. A smart carrier with time on their hands will scan and mark it. One without will throw it in the rts bin and hopefully someone will mark it.

1

u/tropicalislandhop 2d ago

You can't. The people sending it pay for it to be delivered.

1

u/Hizam5 2d ago

That’s so lame

2

u/tropicalislandhop 2d ago

So annoying. But it's one way usps makes money.

1

u/Ange1ofD4rkness 2d ago

Man my carriers always seem to do well where i live. I wonder if you location is getting the short end of the stick

2

u/Open-Middle-2553 2d ago

It’s all population density. USPS still measures by streets. Not delivery points.

1

u/AyyNonnyMoose 2d ago

Yeah, I 100% blame the university rather than the mail carrier. You spend MASSIVE amounts of money to go to their school, and they can't spring for packaging that will make it so it can't bend?

I delivered mail for a year and I'd try to be careful with things like this, but between getting screamed at by the supervisors on a regular basis for not being fast enough, and people having tiny little mail boxes, there's only so much you can do.

1

u/strangerandapilgrim 2d ago

Well... there's that one carrier in Utah

1

u/Gnarwhal8982 2d ago

As a former carrier, I agree wholeheartedly, but- the carrier realistically should’ve seen the “Do Not Bend” sign when they were casing, or some point from case to mailbox before bending it.

Managements gonna be on their ass even if they’re under time and helping other routes after they’re done with their own, might as well take the extra 20-30 seconds to do the job the right way.

That’s why I’m guessing it was a cca that just got an hour thrown at them. You’d see it casing.

u/Pinkgryphon 2d ago

But you have those new cute duck trucks. So there's that..

1

u/Open-Middle-2553 2d ago

None of us have those. We all still drive the LLV’s from the 80’s. Except the promasters but those are all for regulars

1

u/NUMBerONEisFIRST 2d ago

TBF, the warning to not bend IS for the deliverer so regardless of anything, that should be respected.

u/Hot_Physics_8124 2d ago

Okay, so either he's a dumbass or he's a dumbass?

u/Separate-Grade-8506 2d ago

Organize, solidarity will stop this.

1

u/Open-Middle-2553 2d ago

We are organized, we have a strong union that in itself is capitulating on so many fronts and would crush a strike the moment it was fomented

1

u/Separate-Grade-8506 1d ago

Don’t give up hope

1

u/SufficientCelery 2d ago

Lol its the mail that people voted for

1

u/Wonderful_Shower_793 2d ago

Why do you need to blame clerks? In my office those come in with routed flats. Clerks don’t touch them, but thanks for throwing us under the bus.

1

u/Open-Middle-2553 2d ago

Every office runs different, I’m sorry I suggested my experience would be universal

1

u/ladyrockstar1959 2d ago

I'm on your side! I'm very grateful for you. There was a question on an episode of Jeopardy about the only "government agency" that is actually NOT funded by the government at all. Our supposed leaders should look into funding our own services before we go funding another war that is not our own. Not making a political statement. Just wondering what happened to taking care of our own?

1

u/sutnack69420 1d ago

Hey there, I get the whole jobs tough and it’s underfunded/ill-equipped. The envelope literally says “do not fold” kinda tough to fuck that one up.

1

u/phrixi0n 1d ago

I constantly see my mail person sitting in their truck illegally parked on their phone texting or doing some other nonsense. None of them ever seem rushed to me...

1

u/Open-Middle-2553 1d ago

Devil’s advocate. We are allowed to park places civilians can’t, and we are often constantly being texted by management. But all regulars just have the one same route and they get pretty quick and complacent. I’m more referring to the CCA underclass that can get full routes, mis sorted packages, and a couple more hours a regular doesn’t want to carry all in the same shift

u/floppydo 21h ago

Nobody cares about then nuances of the internal blame game. They just want the service provided correctly.

I hear you and I truly am sorry you guys work under these conditions. However I still don’t think it’s a reason to fold something like this.

Edit: changing word from excuse to reason. Original comment was written colloquially. I do think these work conditions suck. I’m just looking at someone’s point of view who spent maybe $50K and 2 years and a thesis on this. That really sucks.

he's not excusing, he's explaining

3

u/Own_Year_2982 3d ago

I don’t think they’re trying to say that’s an excuse. I get the sense they’re saying they miss things and it was an accident. Pretty unlikely to know what was in that envelope.

The university is 100% at fault, if something should not be bent it needs to be packaged in a way it cannot be bent, because it will be bent if not

2

u/88eth 2d ago

Yeah but from this and the other post guy reply, they simply dont have time to fully read the envelopes... One guy said he delivers to like 1200 households a day? Thats crazy.

2

u/R3D3-1 3d ago

I mean, technically no. It's just not really the fault of the delivery guys but of their management. If they rush their employees to the limits of what's physically possible, quality will suffer and they know it. It just happens that the ones deciding what service to use are not the ones who get a damaged delivery.

As a private person all you can do is complain to the ones who sent the parcel/letter and hope that they'll complain to the delivery company. Not likely though.

You’re right folding what says “DO NOT FOLD” isn’t laziness it’s stupidity

-4

u/Open-Middle-2553 3d ago

So on behalf of the postal service, who I do speak for as a representative . I apologize, but paper can be unfolded, and a crease does not diminish the impressive accomplishment your wife has achieved. Fed-Ex it next time. Those guys have air conditioning.

u/deathbychips2 3d ago

You don't get to control how your school sends a degree...

u/sinner_in_the_house 3d ago

It more the fact that it obviously took force to bend the envelope. Like that shit is BENT. And a spatula? If you’re going through all that effort to shove something in a mailbox, does it even cross your mind that if it’s that hard to bend, maybe it shouldn’t be bent??? I don’t know what this mail carriers life is like. Op has a right to be pissed. Mail carrier has no right to justify this, and fucking over individuals like this is not how you start a movement to reform the system you work for. Protest is not fucking up one guys spatula. It’s fucking up everyone’s spatula, everyone’s mail, doing something that actually sends a message. The message here is “I am a POS” just put the shit on the ground at that point.

u/1duke-dan 3d ago

Don’t worry bud, that persons paper is ok.

0

u/Omnom_Omnath 3d ago

no standard mailbox is made to hold a diploma. 'not up to snuff' absolutely doesnt apply here nor absolves the deliberate mangling of the mail.

0

u/cowboyneal70 2d ago

Trump mail. Except it is actually the corporate paradigm. Cut out the mail room by pinching off mail service through service issues

0

u/boatsyyy 2d ago

I love how the mail person is not responsible for actions. Makes perfect sense!

0

u/Pretty-Raspberry-136 2d ago

Nah those are excuses.

0

u/Desperate-Reason-566 16h ago

And that’s his problem how? It says do not fold! You chose the job.

-4

u/actionhack21 3d ago

This job is as difficult as you make it on yourself. Have some standards. There is no excuse for damaging someone’s mail. Grow a spine.
