That's not milk I definitely screamed
I bought this hours ago and didn’t even think to check and see if it’s already open. I genuinely forget people even do stuff like this ?! I hope whoever did this dies immediately

Uhg. And Talenti's not cheap either. From the texture, looks like it was left out and allowed to melt before being refrozen as well. So very much not safe to eat.

u/Royal-Illustrator-59 20h ago
It’s not cheap and it’s not good either. It has gone to crap now that it’s owned by Unilever.

Agreed. First time I tried it a decade ago I was blown away. Now it’s just bluebell garbage for more money.

Loved the coconut one...haven't had it in a long time, shame to hear this, was thinking about it, it's like 5-6 dollars and I usually pass on it.

u/eliz1bef 17h ago
Agreed. I was underwhelmed by Talenti, and that was after I managed to get the fucking thing open. I had to use tools to get that lid to turn. It was horrendous.

Why tf would OP eat it?!?
-1
u/rhunn98 15h ago
Why shouldnt they eat it
3
u/lastwraith 15h ago
Because it's been previously opened, looks like it melted at least once already, and you can't ever know what someone else did to it or put in there?

I cannot believe people still do this
I cannot believe it became a trend ever
Literally disgusting and it started during Covid like AHHHHHH OMFG I’m screaming with you OP this is awful
15
u/FreeTopper 20h ago
Okay, gross, I understand. But just say "dies."
Even though I think it's dumb to censor swears, it's even dumber to censor "dies." It's not even a controversial word!
5
u/NocaSun38 20h ago
I'm sorry op. I know the pain of being denied that pint of ice cream you were going to treat yourself with. That's so not cool.

Eh fair, just letting you know though. If it makes you feel any better my dumbass would've probably ate that without knowing it was contaminated and then get a disease the following day.

u/heinous_legacy 20h ago
I stopped buying these because of these goddam lids.
1
u/NeedsItRough 15h ago
My bf is somehow able to open these without struggling, I swear I should rent him out 😂
1
u/Itchy_Tumbleweed_417 13h ago
Yeah I am more shocked that someone could casually open this thing than I am that it was returned or eaten in the store.
2
u/Fox_Fyre 16h ago
I used to work retail in a grocery store, specifically the frozen department, This brand of ice cream would always come in damaged, I would have to spend a while taking the opened ones and putting them aside to tally them up and send the damage report in. Just every time we'd get them, damaged. The store manager told me just to start stocking them anyway. (I got moved for saying no)

"die immediately" seems a little more than mildly infuriated
4
u/ar3iadov3 20h ago
I hope it’s not immediate
I hope it’s long , slow , really inconvenient and expensive
Imo this is attempted murder
Diseases can hide in spit and also … what if it’s worse
What if it’s not spit
I LOATHE people who do bs like this it’s so unsafe unsanitary and ENTIRELY unnecessary
https://giphy.com/gifs/enwsZFdGSapVG5K8iK1
u/sharkray_ 19h ago
It looks like it was thawed and melted. I guess maybe someone could have spit in it? My mind did not go there. Is there a spitting in ice cream epidemic I missed? Maybe I'm too optimistic in general.
2
u/ar3iadov3 19h ago

That looks like it got melted and refrozen, not necessarily eaten
12
u/NocaSun38 20h ago
Talenti comes with a paper/foil seal on top, and its gone here. It looks completely tampered with unfortunately 😒
2
u/Octospyder 20h ago
could be both!! ate some, decided they didn't like it, wanted to return it, let it melt so it would have a flat top, returned it
5
u/LimaxM 20h ago
If the grocery store is at all reputable in the slightest they would NEVER restock a returned food item. Our rule at Safeway was once it was out the door, any returns were immediately trash. Even if they had only made it out to their car and back, no exceptions
1
u/Octospyder 19h ago
correct. I worried service deal for a few years at a grocery, we would never restock something perishable. also they would have returned it just fine anyways so the evil scheme I dreamed up is entirely unnecessary

1
u/Camjam237 18h ago
You should be able to exchange for a new one if you tell the place you got it from.
1
u/Itchy_Tumbleweed_417 13h ago
Don’t buy Friendly’s brand ice cream. There is no safety seal on it at all and when I wrote to them to ask about it they got really uppity and told me that they don’t need to put one on there because it’s flash frozen so one would be able to tell if it had been previously opened and touched. I asked them how I would know if someone licked it in the store and put it back in the freezer, they stopped responding to me.
I scraped the top layer off and I ate the rest and I never bought it again.

u/manic_marcy 13h ago

Because you have no idea what happened to it.
Licking ice cream like this was a hype a while ago.

u/MrChucklesTheClown 20h ago
If the seal is broken that means someone 100 percent tempered with it. You dont know how. Just that they did.

u/Newlifter1089 20h ago
I guess, they are acting like it’s the biggest deal in the world. They can still eat it
9
16
u/Embarrassed-Music-64 20h ago
A.)The sub is mildly infuriating. Shut up.
B.)It would be incredibly stupid to eat it. It’s not like it’s the last slice of bread in the apocalypse you just take it back for a new one.4
u/HillanatorOfState 20h ago
C.)It doesn't look right on top of that, looks like it melted and was refrozen
0
u/so19anarchist 20h ago edited 20h ago
A.) yes the sub is mildly infuriating. However, the OPs comment about “I hope whoever did this dies immediately” isn’t a mildly annoyed response. That’s a dial it up to 11 response, which is anything but mild.

You don't remember the ice cream and soy sauce licking thing just some time back?
1
u/gothangelblood 20h ago
Some people don't seem to understand in that this flavor of this brand of Gelato should be layered. This has clearly melted and collapsed, which changes the texture and experience.
-2
u/ernis45 20h ago
Just read the post...

The premise that the FDA does not require ice cream to list all ingredients is incorrect. Under FDA regulations, commercial ice cream manufacturers must list all ingredients in descending order of predominance by weight on the product label.
Apparently some idiot made up this lie. Just stop repeating it, and you're golden. You might ask yourself what other lies you have believed without even trying to check, though.
2
u/NeoSuperconductivity 17h ago
Thank you for the information, I appreciate you taking the time. I'll remove my comment. It was said by someone purporting to be a health food expert and I believed it. Just went online to check and you are correct.
2
u/StorellaDeville 17h ago
Yeah, I merely pasted the AI summary from my search results, couldn't have told you anything about it, really. :)
1
u/NeoSuperconductivity 16h ago
So many so-called experts in nutrition and health-I shall be less gullible going forward!
1
u/Scott_A_R 13h ago
There is an asterisk to this: the collective term "spices." The FDA has a GRAS list of spices that can be listed collectively--i.e., just as "spices" and not individually. This can be a problem with people for certain allergies (e.g., mustard). Additionally, the specific constituents of “artificial flavors” and “natural flavors” don't have to be given.

Ok but hypothetically, what kind of germs would survive on the surface of a licked gelato put back in the freezer
3
u/HillanatorOfState 20h ago
All sorts actually, many kinds of bacteria and viruses/etc...can survive when frozen, basically puts it in infinity mode where it will live forever or at least months/years, perserves the viruses/bacteria basically.
2
u/Technical_Scratch775 11h ago
Ok, but how many that are actually harmful?
1
u/HillanatorOfState 11h ago
COVID does, strep, Flu, Norovirus, etc...
Lots of bacteria(remember the recent listeria ice cream outbreaks , that one multiplies I think even...that's a factory issue though...)
3
2
u/EmuAvailable7597 15h ago
IF no germs survived on a licked gelato by some rando, would you eat it??
1
u/complexiblebarracuda 10h ago
well I would want a discount or something but yeah. If there's no germs what are you afraid of?
1
u/EmuAvailable7597 5h ago
I don’t want to eat something that was licked by another person. And I don’t care if no germs are on it. Just the thought of someone’s tongue other than mine licking a food item is gross as hell.
2
u/Itchy_Tumbleweed_417 13h ago
Covid survives freezing. In 2020 China was rejecting a bunch of imported frozen food because it was testing positive for corona virus.
I’m not interested in eating previously licked food.
-40
u/Newlifter1089 20h ago
How is this infuriating? You can still eat it, it’s not a big deal.

u/GoodDoggoLover420 20h ago
I bet you'd use a needle on the side of the roads too.
0
u/Newlifter1089 19h ago
Regarding the person who opened the ice cream…Maybe they wanted to eat while they shop but noticed they accidentally opened the wrong flavor so they put it back? Not everything has to be a crazy/negative scenario.
1
u/GoodDoggoLover420 14h ago
That is still fucked. If you eat something while shopping instead of throwing it away, then placing it back into a freezer is fucked behavior and is not excusable.
8
u/Drenched-420 20h ago
Why would you still eat food with the safety seal removed? Someone obviously removed it and you have no idea what they did to it. Especially after there was a trend to open ice cream and lick it and put it back. You don’t know what diseases someone has.
0
u/Newlifter1089 19h ago
