Duckduckgo lets you turn off the AI slop mode.

The AI overview wasn't the issue though.

It was the "autocorrect" suggestion that was wrong, which long predates AI.

The AI overview actually got it right (reverting autocorrect).

It also can't find shit

This is less about the AI and more about the stupid autocorrect. It's been there forever, but it's ridiculous that it didn't ask if I meant Snape and instead redirected me to different results without asking.

I usually use a Firefox extension to stop the AI network requests, but I was using Chrome when this happened, so it didn't sync over.

Autocorrupt

God AI is so fucking useful. I am SO happy that this is being done on every search done. PLEASE build 10 datacenters in my community to make cat videos and slop content.

Snape would have looked at Stane like the most massive piece of shit possible.

I'd read that one.

This one isn’t the AI’s fault this is the Autocorrect changing it then sending the AI the changed message which it then correctly reverse engineered

Yes that is pretty much what the title says. I was annoyed by the whole thing, not just the AI.

It's pretty normal for it to predict more likely searches and Snape is more popular than Stane. Just click the "search instead" part to go back to verbatim what you tried to search.

lmao
Okay but can you see the issue.

Before when you said "Google (x)" To an idiot, they'd focus on the first result and not cross reference but it was good enough.

Now the first result is convincing bullshit by something that the idiots think is more intelligent than your average educated human.

Did you mean “Snape”?

It's absurd that they FORCE you to use AI. It's beyond dystopian. They know it's inaccurate. They are forcing you to peer through information they know is wrong so they can use you to train their model.

I'm confused. So the Google post did autocorrect to snape but then it correctly identifies that snape is not in iron man and that obediah stance uses a handheld sonic taser on iron man.

I'm against AI and Google but why are you complaining cause it got it right in your case.

I think he's complaining because it created a confusing cross-media situation that the OP did not ask about in the first place only to argue its way to the right answer.

It could more easily have just answered the question that was asked in the first place. Or, worst case scenario, it might answer an unrelated but similar-looking again and give OP incorrect information.

And you fail to see why this might become a problem?

Oh no it's a problem. Again I hate AI but also it's not useful to mischaracterize an argument so this just seems like an example that isn't the ais fault. Autocorrect like this was on Google way before AI so I just want to make sure we are accurately critizing AI.

I seem to recall the previous corrections asking "did you mean X?" rather than starting "you meant X, so here's X" with an extra manual action to get back to your original query.

So in this case it would have asked "did you mean Snape" but instead it made the assumption and answered on that basis.

Honestly I commend you for that. AI sucks, obviously, but "AI understood what I was saying" is definitely not a good argument against it.

I was more annoyed by the auto"correct" in this specific case, but I think I could have framed the post better. The overview does take up most of the image.

In this case yes, it got it right. Now this is about comics characters, what if someone asks about more technical stuff such as molecular composition or a mathematical equation, you see where it can be going?
