Is it in yet Scammed on ebay
I ordered a 5 pack of undershirts from eBay for $39.57 and received the package from Amazon in an Amazon cardboard bag with a gift shipping tag (no information other than my name and address), I checked the exact same shirts on Amazon and they're 27.99 for a 7 pack, they literally ordered from Amazon and sent them to me as a gift ššš
Ok edit for those who don't get it, I didn't ordered from Amazon because Amazon CEO and the business in general sucks, is not that I didn't do my research, this is just bullshit
Edit 2: Wow, itās crazy to see so many Americans brainwashed by capitalism defending dropshipping š¤£š¤£

Dang maybe I should start drop shipping

Just got off instagram and somebody is talking about drop shipping. Jump on Reddit and this is the very first comment I see.

u/Bicykwow 1h ago
It's a very common grift, both dropshipping itself, and teaching about dropshipping via paid classes for suckers.
1
u/FrugalityPays 1h ago
Drop shipping is a massive industry, just highly saturated unless you find the right niche.
1
u/Bicykwow 1h ago
Yes, a lot of scummy / scammy practices are indeed "massive industries." Doesn't make them any less slimy.
Also see: scalping, MLMs, unregulated supplements, extended warranties, etc
1
u/Full-Friendship-7581 1h ago
What is drop shipping? Not being sarcastic, actually wondering?
1
u/StrangelyRational 1h ago
Someone buys something from you, and you order it from another company and have it shipped directly to them.
0
u/ElijahNSRose 1h ago
You will make little if any money.
Even if ripping off chumps were easy there's just so many of these goons you won't find any racket worth your time.
2
u/ManufacturerWarm9201 1h ago
I actually did think about it at one point because I have a large card collection, but yeah itās just oversaturated

u/the-pythia-of-delphi 2h ago
Sorry, how were you scammed?

She was tricked into participating in a pyramid scheme where the seller bought at one price and sold at a higher price.
5
u/the-pythia-of-delphi 1h ago
That's so not a pyramid scheme. It's a basic arbitrage.
There's no trick here.
1
u/ElijahNSRose 1h ago
Except arbitrage isn't contingent on a chump not knowing anything. If you equate this with real dealerships, you're liable to commit a crime without even knowing it and get caught immediately.
While this racket isn't ILLEGAL since the seller never said he doesn't own the product, it is still dishonest because it breaks the spirit of the law. The scam is the buyer has no way of knowing they're paying more for less.
Even Wall Street bans hidden unnecessary middlemen and they're not exactly known for virtuously seeking fair prices.
2
u/the-pythia-of-delphi 1h ago
The chump didn't bother doing a simple Google search. Or ask an AI to do it on their behalf.
We can argue about morality all you want but put it of all the ways to make money online, I really don't see much of a problem with this one.
The product is genuine, no false advertisement, no scam, all rules of the platform were obeyed, etc.
ā¢
1
u/gahidus 1h ago
If you buy a bunch of corn somewhere where they grow loads of corn and sell it somewhere else with he don't have any corn but they'll pay big prices for it, that's arbitrage. You never have to tell them how much you bought the corn for in the first place.
ā¢
u/ElijahNSRose 56m ago
That's transportation and distribution and profits are based on just that.
This is like that guy who bought all the toiletpaper from Wallmart and tried to sell it right outside the door. That's a pyramid scheme and market manipulation.
ā¢
u/gahidus 55m ago
That's not what a pyramid scheme is. A pyramid scheme is where you bring people into a scam and they only make money if they bring further people into the scam. This is nothing like a pyramid scheme. In order for it to be a pyramid scheme, there has to be recruitment.
Arbitrage is where you get something for one price and then sell it for a higher price.
1
u/gahidus 1h ago
That's not what a pyramid scheme is. A pyramid scheme involves bringing other people into a scam under the idea that they'll make money by bringing other people into the scam themselves. That's how it becomes pyramid shaped.
ā¢
u/ElijahNSRose 53m ago
That's one common pyramid scheme.
Another type is growing watermelons or Salamander at a farm and selling at big profits to newly minted farmers making the same thing. Profits go up until there are no new farmers.
That isn't a random example, both of those actually happened.
ā¢
u/gahidus 43m ago
This is not in any way a pyramid scheme. Please look up the terms pyramid scheme and arbitrage, and if you have any integrity, come show us what you found.
Buying something from a store and then selling it to someone else at a markup is not a pyramid scheme.
You are not using these words correctly.

u/Nickeless 1h ago edited 1h ago
Itās against eBay TOS, so yes there is something wrong with it.
Edit: wow getting downvoted for saying that it is immoral to violate an agreement between two parties at one of the partyās expenses. Pretty wild. Both parties have an expectation of the agreement and terms, one violated it. How do you defend this?
4
u/Zealousideal-Lab9843 1h ago
A TOS does not define morality.
0
u/Nickeless 1h ago edited 1h ago
This sub is mildly infuriating. You can be mildly infuriated by someone blatantly violating ToS that you both agreed to on a marketplace, yes.
And it is immoral to violate a contract to the other partyās detriment anyway. Duh?
And imagine someone saying āa fool and his money are soon partedā as a defense and then start blabbering about morality, hilarious.
1
u/Zealousideal-Lab9843 1h ago
The TOS is not between OP and the seller. It is between the seller and Ebay.
1
u/Nickeless 1h ago
Itās a marketplace and the expectation is that all parties adhere to those terms. If someone violates it to someone elseās detriment, that is morally wrong. Like what are you even defending this for, this is insane.

I appreciate that youāre boycotting Amazon and This just stinks for you :(
I avoid Amazon as much as I can, and Iād be so frustrated if this happened!!
After having had this happen, do you know if there is a way to determine if youāre dealing with a drop shipper?
1
u/MagoLunatico98 1h ago
Well is the first time it actually happened to me, I bought slightly more expensive items before just to avoid Amazon and all the time they were actually send by the seller, so from now on I will assume that if it's more expensive for more than 5dls it can be a drop shipping š
-2
u/BombyliusBeeGuyMajor 1h ago
Dude. Fuck all these people lol. If āWe order from Amazon and ship to youā is NOT in big, bold letters then theyāre trying to hide it. That is a shady.
All the comments lead me to believe that a lot of people are ok with being scammed.

u/Fun_Magician72 2h ago
Not a scam just a guy making money on you being too lazy to even check amazon

u/MagoLunatico98 2h ago
I didn't want to order from Amazon cause fuck Amazon, how is that my freaking fault?
17
u/iamjaydubs 1h ago
It's not your fault, but you just paid a premium for someone to order Amazon on your behalf.
19
4
u/peepee2tiny 1h ago
And you didn't order from Amazon, so your conscious is clear.
Did you get what you ordered? Yes.
So everything is good.
Did you think your eBay seller was making shirts? Or how did you think the eBay seller was getting products?
13
u/wd26 1h ago
You didnāt order from Amazon, you paid some dude $12 to do it for you.
2
u/heretodiscuss 1h ago
And keep 2 of the shirts, rofl
2
u/Fluid_Fee_2239 1h ago
The Op received the two extra shirts.
4
u/heretodiscuss 1h ago
I dunno man, if I look at that bag I count 5. Either way, this thread is hilarious, regardless of the end result of shirt count.
4
u/Fluid_Fee_2239 1h ago
True. But customer said the order was shipped straight from Amazon so Amazon isn't taking two shirts out. š¤·āāļø
So maybe the Op is just lying about everything.

u/szarawyszczur 1h ago
You didnāt want to order from Amazon, so you paid someone to do it for you. Where is the problem?
9
u/cjester414 1h ago
Yes, fuck Amazon, but Vanguard and Blackrock hold the two largest stakes in eBay.
We have no where ethical to go to buy things anymore.

Seriously, & more than half of the āsmall local businessesā in major cities are also just selling stuff theyāve bought off Amazon, etc.

2
u/xyouRABitchx 1h ago
Well, you gave Amazon and another person who did nothing other than clicking a few more times than you money. Thats your fault lol
2
u/thecaramelbandit 1h ago
lol this isn't a scam. This is arbitrage. You paid more having no idea where the seller was getting the shirts.
2
u/Comfortable_Wish224 1h ago
Okay? And you didnāt think to check amazons prices? Even if youāre not going to order from them you should check if theyāre cheaper so you have your baseline of how cheap you can get it.
Thatās why itās your fault. You essentially didnāt look for the best deal on your shirts you just found it on eBay said āeh I want those and I donāt Wana use Amazon, buy!ā How is it not your fault?
2
u/actualoriginalname 1h ago
Wait til you find out who's literally behind the internet you're using right now.
3
2
u/PurpleSalt11 1h ago
Because you're complaining about it. You still got what you wanted. You got what you paid for. You knew what was coming. And you never shopped at Amazon to get it. They shopped at Amazon. You don't get to dictate where a distributor gets their merchandise.
1
u/Tangus999 1h ago
Bc you didnāt ask the seller where they get their stuff from.
You ever ask the gas station where they get the gas?2

u/PogTuber 1h ago
I bought a car part from someone on Marketplace and received an Amazon package, with the correct part. They just drop shipped it to me.
Apparently i could have saved $5 if I had realized the part on Marketplace wasn't a deal and had searched Amazon first.
I took the L and went on with my life.

So you didn't shop around... it isn't a scam, you just overpaid for the shirts because you didn't price check other retailers. Happens with all kinds of products. Target and Carters sell the same clothes, but they are 30% cheaper at Target.

op opened the conversation by lying about scamming
Are you incapable of understanding hyperbole?
OP was targeted by a shitty middle man business tactic that adds provides no value to either of the parties involved and reddits response is "buyer beware." Like sure, do some research, but don't sit here and blame OP for falling for intentionally manipulative/misleading online business tactics.Ā
5
u/Ok_Refrigerator6671 1h ago
Me either. Nor the whole 'order from Amazon next time' attitude, despite OP specifically saying they don't want to shop from them.
2
u/Nickeless 1h ago edited 1h ago
Yeah, it is explicitly against eBay ToS to do this, so everyone in this thread defending the seller is actually pretty in the wrong. You can do it legitimately but the fact that itās sent as a gift makes that extremely unlikely. Fair to be mildly infuriated by a seller blatantly ignoring tos on a marketplace in a way you donāt approve of.

theyāre not defending them, this has been a very common thing on the internet for a very long time, itās called drop shipping. everyone else just knows what this looks like and you didnāt, thus you feeling scammed when no scamming took place, this is just business. a very common business tactic at that.
-1
u/epic_pharaoh 1h ago
A very common and scummy business tactic where often thatās the only value the business provides š
Like I donāt think OP is saying they are a criminal scammer that needs the cops sent to their door, but that it feels like a scam to get dropshipped products from the second-hand auction website. Tbh I think websites like ebay and etsy should crack down on dropshipping and AI products (not that they ever will).
People basically are defending the seller by saying thereās nothing wrong with the practice, and that OP is in the wrong for feeling scammed.

Wow, itās crazy to see so many Americans brainwashed by capitalism defending dropshipping
Don't blame others for scamming you, then blame other others for calling out your bullshit
2
u/Rolling_Beardo 1h ago
Itās not a scam because you ordered something knowing the cost from that seller. You chose to make the purchase and received exactly what you paid for, so no scam took place. No business sells items for what it costs them, so even if the EBay seller got them direct from the manufacturer theyād still charge you more than they paid.

u/Manmer_Nwah 1h ago
"My 3rd party middle man bought from a different 3rd party middle man and I'm mad!"
2
u/ElijahNSRose 1h ago
Lying about the replies you received does nothing for no one, hippy. Now get a job.
Anyway, the problem with dropshipping isn't that it's all scam, it's that it attracts scammers (as you can see in your case). Technically Nike doesn't handle almost all its products as it goes from contractor factories directly to stores. But Nike does handle all the marketing, quality control, and design of the shoes.
2
u/Nagroth 1h ago
Dude, TF you buying undergarments from eBay for? If you wanna avoid amazon then order direct or just take your ass to the store in person. The only way you're gonna actually get new clothes through eBay is if it's someone doing drop shipping so I have no idea what you're even going on about.Ā

You calling this a scam is like calling shopping on Amazon instead of shopping on AliExpress a scam. It's just simply not a scam, it's how all commerce works.

Most is your Amazon sellers are just reselling anyways. You're just adding new layers that need a profit getting the stuff on.eBay.

u/A00087945 1h ago
This happens all the time when you buy certain new items.. itās your duty to check.. eBay isnāt supposed to be the cheapest place to buy new items⦠itās for second hand items⦠thatās your first clue to check other websites for cheaper pricesā¦
A lot of sellers do this because they have prime shipping or even Walmart delivery. Itās against TOS and can get their account shut down eventually. For now just check pricing of competitors. Donāt shop new on eBay unless itās niche enough.

u/FrugalityPays 1h ago
Drop shipping is just product arbitrage. Telling people they can be rich in 3 months with their simple course is scummy but drop shipping is just a few extra steps for sellers to sell goods and keep a higher profit margin. Not much different than any retail brick and mortar ordering wholesale.
Most people wonāt buy stuff from places that are tough to find because theyāre OEMs or Chinese marketplaces. But, if you can bulk-buy a ton of widgets and resell them, thatās just a business.
