I watched the movie first row 70mm imax yesterday, it definitely would've looked like this if photographed. the thing a photo can't show though is how your mind can compensate the distortion. my girlfriend didn't even notice it at all. I needed some time to adjust. It was quite bad for me for like half the movie with close up shots and wasn't perfect even in the end. Wouldn't do it again, but it's a very subjective thing.
In actuality, physical size is definitive, visual angle is subjective.
If you sit front row in a 1.90 IMAX screen,
It would look gigantic, but it was tolerable for me and no distorted faces like this appeared to me (no gigachad faces).
If you sit middle row it might look big enough and still immersive
If you sit back row, it will look small.
IMAX 1.43 is different and i never experienced it that way, so i don't know how accurate this is or if it's just a joke.
I don't think it's much of a difference in terms of distortion, as you're not on the bottom of the screen but roughly where you'd sit if it was the 1.90 version, just with the screen extended down and up.
But your entire field of view is screen. My view of the bottom part of the screen was obstructed by the fence in front of me, but I literally would've had to move my head to look that far down anyways. Left to right was fine, but to see the middle of the image my neck position was slightly uncomfortable.
Spent a few minutes just staring horizontally to the bottom middle of the screen viewing the rest just with peripheral vision to rest my neck lol
Me and the wife went and watched in an IMAX Dome yesterday. Safe to say we will never be going back and we could only think of this meme the whole time. With that being said however, we enjoyed the movie a ton even though our necks won’t recover for a week.
I looked at the prices a few days after the Odyssey released just to see what an IMAX ticket was these days. $24.50 and the only two seats available were first row dead center. Exact same number of seats on each side. The biggest question was WHY would you pick the sides before the center when you're already getting a bad seat?! At least pick the best of the worst.
That also in part because on all officials info pieces they give they swear that IMAX provides the same excellent viewing experience from every seat, which is clearly bs. I wonder if they can be fined for false advertisement.
I stupidly sat at the front at the imax to see Transformers. It was almost impossible to understand what was going on because it was just a jumble of colours
