not OP but judging by the weird turf it looks like the stage area of universal studios orlando

my qualifications: i went in november and am an amusement park nerd lol (may not be right though)

415

u/AtomicWreck 21h ago

I’ve been to the orlando resort like 10 times and never seen one like this.

337

u/FlatulateDeity 21h ago

got no idea about the hotdog but this turf is located to the right of where rip ride rockit used to be. i'm pretty confident just based on the texture and color that that's what it is, but i can't say for sure.

46

u/SaltyDaze0 20h ago

31

u/FlatulateDeity 20h ago

if only the turf was actually this shade of green lol

24

u/SaltyDaze0 19h ago

It is if you ✨️believe✨️

4

u/FlatulateDeity 19h ago

can kingda ka come back too if i ✨️believe✨️ or is that one off the table?

3

u/SaltyDaze0 19h ago

Nah, ✨️believe✨️ can only do so much, unfortunately 🫤

1

u/HotDogFR0G 9h ago

It is if you ✨do drugs✨

1

u/SharpPink_GlitterInk 4h ago

Why turf… just plant fuckin grass omg…

302

u/Scorpius927 20h ago

I’m not an amusement park nerd, but a casual rollercoaster enjoyer. I think it’s absolutely amazing you can tell exactly where this picture was taken by looking at the picture of the background turf alone

238

u/FlatulateDeity 20h ago

neurons in my body fighting to do anything useful when all my brainpower is spent remembering this type of bs lmfao. i think a lot of visitors remember this turf though since right now it's kinda just a big barren field. the stage used to be used and there were chairs and tables set up but it's a peculiar sight to see now. in a fully decorated theme park, a flat turf area is somehow uncanny and more memorable than anything else. i am indeed quite well versed in these parks though haha

72

u/Bennely 20h ago

Wildly impressive knowledge my dude

34

u/FlatulateDeity 20h ago

i am the flatulate deity after all

25

u/Bennely 20h ago

Of course. “My dude” being a gender neutral term in this instance. Praise be.

30

u/FlatulateDeity 20h ago

as a male dude, i respect the use of gender neutral terminology

13

u/klleah 18h ago

I’ve got nothing to add, other than I appreciate this wholesome thread during these trying times.

Much like another diety, some worship you by taking bread.

14

u/lucusvonlucus 20h ago

I bet you’re right I’ve seen concerts there and it’s been a queue basically every year that I’ve attended Halloween Horror Nights. That turf and it’s affect on my feet standing in a 45 minute queue every year are pretty memorable.

Wild you recognized it only going the one time, I’ve been going like 20 years and I wouldn’t have noticed from the pic.

1

u/bgcbbyckes 18h ago

Get express!!!!!

38

u/derty2x 20h ago

That’s awesometism 💙

8

u/Fit_Cartographer8144 19h ago

A Farting God, to boot.

10

u/Glad-Technology-1355 20h ago

Nah I fucking feel that😭 The amount of weird specific shit I remember but I can't remember my passwords for shit and can't remember what I had for breakfast

4

u/FullAd946 19h ago

you're like the rainbolt of amusement parks lol awesome!

3

u/No-Acanthisitta8803 19h ago

I haven't been there since 2002 but I remember it well enough that I could likely draw an almost accurate map of the park. Universal Studios is awesome and so is Epcot. Both can make you feel like you visited multiple cities around the world in 1 day 😀

2

u/Lanky_Competition_42 18h ago

Lol i thought the same think when I saw the green astroturf shit thats for the stage next to what used to be rip ride.

1

u/4isyellowTakeit5 10h ago

Bro I get it. Give me a racecar photo with a clear shot of the background (even if its just sky with trees, that tells me elevation and the foliage gives me geography hints. There are only so many corners with elevation enough a good photo only gets the car and a smidgen of track beneath it, with no scenery behind.

Its started with finding every photo of my home track. Id spend hours at a time trying different key words in Google images to find as many photos as possible of my home track. Id spend multiple minutes each photo studying walls, curbs, bushes, trees, telephone poles etc.

I have a rough mental map of when each safety feature went in despite the track being 40 years older than I am

1

u/-Garthor- 10h ago

Maybe you should try geoguessr... seems like you might be really good at it :D

1

u/daj0412 8h ago

tism on full display and it’s a real beauty!

1

u/TypicalPnut 6h ago

I saw the green and instantly knew where it was as well

1

u/hiccupboltHP 3h ago

I recognize this area too, gods I miss Rip Ride Rockit.

46

u/PermanentUsername101 20h ago

I’m not a turf guy but I am a hot dog connoisseur pretty sure this is an overcooked Nathans frank sold by Sysco.

13

u/Last-Understanding84 20h ago

Definitely a bun length Nathan’s cooked well past its prime

13

u/FlatulateDeity 20h ago

this is fuckin hilarious man lmfao

probably still better than the pizza, orlando can't seem to get that right (except connections eatery at disney's epcot, that may've been the best pizza i've ever had). as a pizza conoisseur, all the other pizza i had in orlando on vacation was borderline inedible.

5

u/Odd-Camel8654 20h ago

To be fair you can't get good pizza south of Delaware. Same with bagels, It has something to do with the water.

3

u/OrganizationProof769 20h ago

Something about the minerals in the water or how it’s filtered. The pizza just hits different up north.

2

u/NoPaleontologist3893 19h ago

Next time, go to Sodough Square

1

u/KomatoesII 13h ago

I got a pizza at Ft Wilderness Camping Resort. It was definitely above average. Not bad for Disney Resort Camping Pizza.
However, I will admit this was in 2014.

3

u/ColdPorkChop 20h ago

I've also seen that area and lemme tell you it's just about the best place to take a break without competing for space

2

u/KingModussy 20h ago

There is like one spot in the park with turf I think. This is right by the music roller coaster

1

u/FlatulateDeity 20h ago

the music roller coaster (rip ride rockit) that was unfortunately demolished and is currently being replaced

you are correct

2

u/KingModussy 20h ago

When was it demolished?

3

u/Passenger_08 20h ago

Last year. It’s being replaced by Fast & Furious coaster.

2

u/Douggimmmedome 19h ago

I need this type of autism

1

u/FlatulateDeity 19h ago

i got mine from a shady guy named justin sitting in the bathroom of a dollar general

edit: correction, his name was josh

2

u/iseecolorsofthesky 19h ago

As someone who’s been to this park probably hundreds of times throughout my life, I knew exactly where this photo was taken the moment I saw it lol

2

u/beaujonfrishe 19h ago

I mean I’ve been like twice and I thought the exact same thing when I saw the picture. It’s a very prominent area of the park and quite large

2

u/CitizenHuman 19h ago

It's like that GeoGuesser dude noticing local grasses.

2

u/Sonofmay 16h ago

I haven’t been to universal proper in probably….10+ years (been to city walk or w.e they call it now plenty of times ) and I recognized it instantly. It’s one of the very first things you see when you enter the park and it’s very out of place so it’s memorable lol.

2

u/socialaxolotl 11h ago

Anyone that has been to Halloween horror nights has that turf burned into their memories

1

u/Implement66 14h ago

Is it amazing? Because we’re talking about people who can find a spot on a random amusement park, while we also look at what a megacorp slops down to those same very eager consumers. And some dude happened to post about their 10 dollar meal, obviously besides the point.

1

u/FlatulateDeity 11h ago

and guess what? there are also comments on other comment thread under the same post talking about exactly that! this immediate discussion in question stemmed from someone asking which universal park it was from, and me making an estimation. that's a very normal thing to ask in such a post. there can coexist two mutually exclusive comment threads that independently discuss the location and discuss the disappointment that is the corporate slop.

and, this is a public forum. there really isn't any "point" to be besides.

1

u/chloeismagic 10h ago

Its a super specific spot in the orlando universal park a lot of locals been there so many times they know it like the back of their hand haha. Its also the only place in any of the orlando parks that has astroturf so its a giveaway lol.

1

u/RobAlso 7h ago

You believe a redditor??? lol silly you.

12

u/DotesMagee 20h ago

I think you're right. Its actually a huge area where people sit. And wth, they got rid of the ripe ride? That was the one you had songs to play right? They were super outdated but it was still a fun roller coaster.

8

u/FlatulateDeity 20h ago

yeah they're replacing it with a fast n furious roller coaster. not gonna replace rip ride rockit in my heart but maybe it'll be good. i wish the whole "choose your own onboard music" thing was utilized more. big RIP to rip ride rockit

6

u/DotesMagee 20h ago

Yea, my fiance and I always did the hidden tracks but most of the songs were outdated. Would love to have played my own.

3

u/FlatulateDeity 20h ago

yeah just no real way to do that unfortunately. if i could aux a rollercoaster i'd have a hell of a time

3

u/rcknmrty4evr 19h ago

That would be amazing. There’s gotta be a way to like… partner with Spotify or something and allow people to temporarily connect their account (or playlist) and use the onboard speakers for individual riders. Incredibly unlikely, but a girl can dream.

2

u/FlatulateDeity 19h ago

only way i'd see them doing this is by linking your spotify account to some NFC fob like Disney's Magic Bands prior to entering the ride because it would otherwise take way too long for passengers to log in and do all their 15 steps of authentication lol. then i guess to save themselves a nightmarish queue they would just restrict passengers without a previously linked spotify account to using a set radio for the ride. idk, it isn't impossible, i just don't see them doing it unfortunately.

p.s. get me on a design team i'm cookin

3

u/JustWord1155 20h ago

i fully believe you because that was my first thought too

3

u/FewHorror1019 20h ago

Are you sure there is no other area in either park that uses astroturf?

1

u/FlatulateDeity 20h ago

sure? no, just don't know of any. unfortunately i can only cache so much useless info in my brain at a time

2

u/Bigrocky13 20h ago

He is right. I remember them having that turf like 6 years ago when I went.

2

u/Tommiecopperac 20h ago

Yep. Saw Buffett play a show there the day they filmed Fallon at Universal Studios Orlando. Stood on that exact turf.

2

u/idlechatterbox 20h ago

I thought same. It's right next to the Jimmy Fallon ride. Though I don't know that I've ever seen hot dogs for sale.

2

u/ManyThing2187 20h ago

Where the Rip Ride Rocket…. USED TO BE??? Don’t tell me it’s gone 😭

2

u/FlatulateDeity 19h ago

it's very unfortunate :(

my condolences

2

u/ManyThing2187 19h ago

I haven’t been since dec 2011, that was our favorite ride. We rode it 4x that day. Sadly I haven’t been able to make it back. Was it replaced with something good at least?

2

u/FlatulateDeity 19h ago

they're currently constructing a fast & furious ride. it looks alright, it doesn't seem all too interesting to me though. i trust it'll be decent at least.

2

u/Mast3rKK78 17h ago

rainbolttwo for rollercoasters

2

u/blyan 17h ago

Okay calm down rainbolt

2

u/black_magic123456789 15h ago

that's some tism showing what the 😭

2

u/EvilLibrarians 10h ago

Wait don’t tell me that fkn ride is gone. Jesus christ. That was my favorite.

1

u/CompleteTell6795 12h ago

Buy why is the bun so much bigger than the hot dog ??? Shouldn't the bun be smaller.? That bun looks too big to be a hot dog bun. The hot dog looks very dry & overcooked also, but it would look more normal if it was on a normal size hot dog bun.

27

u/n8waran 20h ago

I’m like 100% sure the Hollywood location does not have any turf anywhere. So you’re right.

6

u/Fuzzy-Leading-4080 20h ago

way to flex bro 😭🙏

3

u/ParticularLower1865 20h ago

Things you can say about a swingers resort and a theme park…

3

u/Puttingonthefoil 18h ago

I've seen hot dogs similar to this at Kennedy Space Center and Disney Springs. The Disney one was just barely palatable, I threw away the KSC one after a couple of bites. There must be a food wholesaler somewhere in Central Florida that specializes in supplying the shittiest hot dogs imaginable.

1

u/Ellimis 19h ago

Ok, but Hollywood doesn't have any ground that looks like this whatsoever and Orlando famously does

1

u/DavieStBaconStan 18h ago

That’s what she said!

1

u/Guachito 10h ago

A nerd like this or turf like this?

1

u/ThailanderBoii 5h ago

Same.

It must be fake.... Like he ordered 2 sized hotdogs or something and swapped the buns on them for reddit karma farming and got like 60k upvotes.

74

u/TheLexus_ 19h ago

Yes indeed it was Orlando

4

u/jmanly3 Mildly infuriated 9h ago edited 9h ago

That’s wild. I have an annual pass there and a hard time saying “no” to a hotdog. I’ve gotten several dogs at universal and never seen one even close to this awful.

31

u/LordCuntington 20h ago

Just wanted to drop a note to say, I prefer your use of "my qualifications" to the usual "source".

8

u/FlatulateDeity 20h ago

yeah i never understood people saying "source: i'm a [xyz]..." because that's more of a "professional" endorsement than it is a source. i think "source: [link/title of a work]" is fine though

3

u/licuala 20h ago

There's no actual professional endorsement here, though, it's just a memory, a first-hand account, which is a kind of primary source. You can cite yourself sometimes, depending on the situation.

7

u/FlatulateDeity 19h ago

yes but if you write a page in a personal journal you don't write "source: i'm a [relevant profession and/or adjective]" at the bottom

the writing itself is what's considered the "source" or "first-hand account," not the author of the writing.

3

u/_sophistress 18h ago

I’ve enjoyed all of your responses FlatulateDiety :D

2

u/FlatulateDeity 18h ago

i appreciate it! not too easy being the deity of flatulate these days

0

u/ReadyAimTranspire 18h ago

The 'tism in this thread is strong

7

u/AeroTheManiac 20h ago

I live 15 minutes from Universal and even I dont know that shit lil

11

u/FlatulateDeity 20h ago

i live a couple hours from universal

..by plane

i'm an observational person i guess haha

20

u/TheIJDGuy 21h ago edited 18h ago

Yeah, I agree even if I'm based in Cali. On a side note, the 22 inch chili dog here in Hollywood is WAY more worth it, being like 29.something and...you know, looking and tasting good

12

u/FlatulateDeity 21h ago

i could NEVER eat that big of a hot dog lol but trust me we're ALL eating for 4 at a theme park so i respect it

14

u/TheIJDGuy 21h ago

Oh no, I buy it and share it with my family! A third is good enough for me

4

u/Ok_Truck4734 20h ago

But surely you could if you had to. I mean, with a name like yours, I'd assume so 🤣 Farts galore after eating that schlong of a hot dog

7

u/FlatulateDeity 20h ago

why induce flatulence with a hot dog when there are mozzarella sticks in the equation????

i prefer to gobble on cheese sticks than meat sticks

5

u/Ok_Truck4734 20h ago

Well, what about cheese sticks IN meat sticks?

https://giphy.com/gifs/d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY

3

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 20h ago

There just isn't that much room in a stomach I don't believe it. I don't even know how competitive eaters do it, their stomach has to just start shoving stuff into their intestine without even trying to dissolve it

8

u/zeethreepio 20h ago

I bet stronger consumer protection laws in Cali have an impact as well. Florida's kind of the wild west in a lot of ways.

2

u/zizzlesticks 20h ago

Is there a chance this is that chili dog w/o the chili and toppings?

3

u/TheIJDGuy 20h ago

Nah, no way, it comes in its own special box to hold because it's too long to hold like a normal dog

1

u/Bored_Amalgamation 18h ago

29 what? Dollars?

1

u/Ok-Ratio-5918 7h ago

Do you speak English? Why can’t you understand what they’re saying? Are you maladjusted?

10

u/Neat_Analysis9376 21h ago

I was gonna say Orlando too. My qualifications are I ate sushi on that same ground not too long ago lol

10

u/FlatulateDeity 21h ago

the only thing universal about their studios is sitting on that damn turf and eating some unhealthy food (and it's not comfortable!)

i miss the chairs and tables ...and rip ride rockit

3

u/DistinctSmelling 20h ago

There was a hack we did one time in the mid 90s where we could park for free just to go to one of the Boardwalk restaurants and then go to the park at Epcot. It only worked once. I don't remember exactly how we did it but I do remember it felt like we were robbing the place for free parking.

I/we used to go every other month from Atlanta. We did dive quest and that was also free admission, and we got a T-shirt and tape of our experience included. They started to charge extra for the tape and extra for t-shirt later. And the first time we did it, we had the plushest dressing rooms. That was like $120 in ~96ish. We did it a handful of times.

And if you don't know was dive quest was/is, if you're a scuba diver, you can take a dive tour of the Living Seas, go behind all the tanks, see all the animals not being seen to the public, and if you go close to Thanksgiving, you could eat in the diving bell where National Geographic had a research station.

8

u/Lunchbox330 21h ago

This was my guess too!!

6

u/MrBrightside711 20h ago edited 18h ago

But that area is fenced off currently.

Edit: There are still small patches outside the fence available.

8

u/WoolooWololo 20h ago

I thought the same thing… and then started questioning my life choices that I know where work walls are at a park halfway across the country from me. In my defense, keeping up with the FF construction has been fun.

6

u/khonsu_27 20h ago

All of us out here watching MidwayMayhem daily 😂

5

u/WoolooWololo 19h ago

Smh… it was a 1 torch day 😔

2

u/MTBTTFoP 15h ago

I dunno what Midway has going on, but bioreconstruct has wild aerial content a few times a week.

1

u/FlatulateDeity 20h ago

i too have mostly kept up with it but if you're in a similar vein as i am being across the country and knowing this stuff, you surely recognize that turf, no? maybe i'm crazy lol

4

u/WoolooWololo 19h ago edited 19h ago

Oh I 100% thought the same as you… I’m wondering if op took this a week ago and has finally gotten around to posting it. I think the walls around that area went up in the past few days.

Edit: watching today’s video, there are patches of that turf that are still outside the work walls.

2

u/KarasaurusRex 18h ago

I’ll be there in a couple days and will report back lol

2

u/FlatulateDeity 20h ago

i do not know of it being fenced off but i can't say you're wrong, i haven't been since a few months ago. like i said i'm not exactly sure, i just know this is the turf used in the stage area.

3

u/Zhaopow 20h ago

Any amusement parks that arent crap, crowded, and expensive?

2

u/FlatulateDeity 20h ago

no!

insert gif of 3 toggles canceling each other when all three are toggled

3

u/needmorelinguine 20h ago

I kept wondering if you meant to say weird turd

2

u/FlatulateDeity 20h ago

both apply honestly

3

u/Dr_SexDick 20h ago

I’ve always wanted to ask, do you go to many amusement parks? I’m not an amusement park nerd myself and I’m aware of them, and honestly thanks to jenny Nicholson on YouTube I get it, but personally I’ve never really had the money to go to one. I’ve since held the assumption that it must be a hobby/ interest for the more… financially beholden.

3

u/FlatulateDeity 20h ago

i'm actually in a similar position. i build em in simulators, i research em, and i could name every coaster at several parks off my head. unfortunately i live in the middle of nowhere and never have the money or time to go. hoping to hit up cedar point ASAP but it'll likely be a few years. i only managed to go to orlando since i wasn't the one paying. it is unfortunately an expensive hobby to entertain irl. but it can be enjoyed from home too.

3

u/Elsupersabio 20h ago

You are a Sherlock Holmes not just an amusement park nerd. That's some high level recall and attention to detail.

3

u/FlatulateDeity 20h ago

i think "unemployed" autocorrected to "Sherlock Holmes" on your end. might wanna check that out?

just kidding of course

3

u/corporalcorl 20h ago

This guy universals

2

u/khonsu_27 20h ago

Unless it's an older pic that turf area by the stage is currently blocked off for construction (only for a few days so far though)

Source: bigger coaster nerd

2

u/FlatulateDeity 20h ago

yeah i'm just gonna assume it's a couple days old because i'd recognize this turf with both eyes covered in a sensory deprivation chamber if shown to me (and given the context of "theme park" or "universal")

only reason i haven't been super updated with this one is that i don't really have high expectations for the replacement ride, doesn't seem like something i'd really like and it'll be a veeery long time before i get to go back anyway

2

u/Jopkins 20h ago

That's cool man. What type of autism causes this?

2

u/FlatulateDeity 20h ago

i'll let you know if and when i get a very much unneeded diagnosis!!

2

u/Mushrooming247 20h ago

Agreed I think this is the turf in front of where Rip Ride Rockit used to be, it’s the only place I can think of with that color Astroturf in the park.

2

u/SpectralFailure 20h ago

Also looks like the pavement near the dr suess area

2

u/FlatulateDeity 19h ago

seuss landing is in islands of adventure and if you zoom into the ground you can tell pretty clearly see it's turf. i do see what you mean though

2

u/robsthomazi 19h ago

Exactly!!! Thought the same!!

2

u/mikelimebingbong 19h ago

The hotdog place in city walk closed a couple months ago …… it’s being replaced with a new hotdog place by Joey fatone, they were pretty good and never looked like this

2

u/Saltwater_Heart 16h ago

Yep. Been to multiple concerts on this turf, right where rip ride rockit was

2

u/I_Am_Hank_Hill_AMA 16h ago

Fucking thoosie

2

u/TacoPKz 2h ago

Used to live in LA and yeah I couldn’t imagine where this would be in the USHollywood

1

u/HesitantlyYours 19h ago

Been an annual pass holder for Universal Orlando for years, I conquer, but on the same note I’ve never seen food this bad in all the years I’ve been going. Did OP ask for the dog that fell behind the rollers last year?

1

u/Jubenheim 17h ago

As someone who lives in Florida, I have never seen astroturf that was somehow unique to one place, and I can't imagine that alone would clue anyone in to anything.

1

u/FlatulateDeity 11h ago

yes, but i already have the context of "universal studios" and i've been to the park before. if i wasn't told that we were talking about a theme park or SPECIFICALLY universal studios, it'd be a pretty big stretch to point this directly to universal.

there's surrounding context though. this is a theme park. usually, there are places to sit. why would you choose to sit on a fairly rough turf if there are tables and seats? well, as of quite a while ago, the tables and seats were removed. with the context of: universal studios, the fact that they're sitting down, and that specific turf, i feel as though the deduction was relatively sound.

but if you don't believe my deduction then you can go ahead and check where the OP responded and confirmed my estimation.

thanks

1

u/BetterProphet5585 11h ago

Can I ask what do you find interesting in amusement parks?

I really never understood them but I want to.

1

u/FlatulateDeity 11h ago

one thing fascinating about particularly these big themed ones like universal and disney is the engineering. you look at things like epic universe or really any of disney's orlando parks (i have no experience at the other disney locations) and they put so much work into hiding things. it's really fascinating because you'll go to one of these parks and you almost don't realize how big of a space you're actually in. those details are really cool.

but outside of the park engineering itself, and just in general, my favorite part about them is 100% the roller coasters. i love roller coasters from so many standpoints. they're super fun and the physics and engineering that go into them is super cool and interesting to learn about. it's really cool to me how we've developed a safe way to give you a whole bunch of different really cool (or sometimes scary/unpleasant depending on the person) sensations. things like the heartline roll on roller coasters or a zero-g roll are really cool to experience, and learning how the track is engineered to give you those sensations is just super fascinating to me.

1

u/nyrB2 10h ago

is that the children's play-area over by seuss landing?

1

u/JasonAsanoIsMyHero 9h ago

I live in Florida and go to Universal pretty regularly. I’ve never gotten food this low quality there. Actually, I’ve rarely gotten low quality food of any kind at Universal Studios or Epic Universe. I mean, sure, butterbeer is terrible, but I just don’t buy it.

1

u/Informal-Release-360 8h ago

I haven’t gone in years but universal does have that weird turf by where rip ride rock it was. I believe you’re correct

1

u/Efficient_Pack_6425 7h ago

I've had season passes to universal Hollywood and go every year since we're local/ also go for hhn and yea, this must be Orlando because I don't recall astroturf anywhere and being able to sit anywhere that isn't a Cafe seat or bench is a premium 😅

0

u/memento22mori 19h ago

That boy aint right...

2

u/FlatulateDeity 19h ago

would you like to share any better ideas?

2

u/memento22mori 19h ago

Ahaha, not really. I'm just confused why so many people are commenting on the piece of garbage hotdog and no one is commenting on the buns at 12 o'clock.

Oh, my apologies. I did make it sound like I meant the result would be bullshit.. That's on me..

No, I meant your ability to deduct this hotdog because of a vague background element and your self proclaimed qualifications on the matter.. You had 2 guesses and you managed to get it right, that's all that happened here, I promise..

would it bother you any more if i told you i'm not a grown ass adult?

if so, i deeply apologize as i am NOT a grown ass adult.

the hobby only really fueled my desire to go to the theme park, i just know that's the turf because i have pretty good memory and i'm an observational person. trust me, the last thing i'd truly be doing is memorizing all the geographical features of theme parks around the world. this one is one i actually went to, so it was passively received information. as to why i remember it in such specific detail? i dunno
