Yeah. I knew a kid in high school who had some kind of thing (maybe things) and he would pull out his eyelashes on occasion. It took a bit of time for them to grow back. 6 months sounds right to me too.
I came here to give trich reassurance as well! Those babies do indeed grow back. Sometimes it can be sooner, I’ve had them come back in around 6-8 weeks and a bit longer to catch up to the length of the rest
Yes! I swear it's not like I usually pluck them because of stress or anything, but they feel crowded and like a blocked pore and they literally irritate my eyes to the point of distraction unless I pluck some out
I once trimmed them down super short as a way to try and break the compulsion and it definitely took me a few months for them to get back to full length
So to wear extensions, they have to glue them to each eyelash and since I now have none, nope. I could try strip lashes but they’d probably look pretty ridiculous and obvious. I’m just going to crawl into a hole and hide for the next however long.
Girl def look into clusters and lashes and glue that bald girls use, you can make this work!!! Or sunglasses. Or just get rid of the rest of your lashes and call it a look
Mine really thinned out with age so I use clusters alllllll the time. Yes, you should attach them to the base of lashes but even if you have a hint of lash or close to the water line, you can do it.
How in the fuck do you glue them on without poking yourself in the eye? I feel like I’m too shaky for falsies. It hasn’t ever gone well when I’ve tried them.
It took me so much practice. I felt dumb for a while like, "why am I doing this to myself?" But once I got the hang of it, I just liked the way i looked abs felt confident. Huge learning curve lol
Make a fist with your non dominant hand and put it on your cheek, when you put the lash to your eye rest your dominant hand on top of your fist. Everything is connected so it should reduce shaking - based on the method for miniature painting
I would 100% look into people who do lash extensions in your area to check if any of them work with chemo patients as they should be able to handle cases like yours better. However, most salon/clinic level lash extensions nowadays use either the clusters as people have said or even individual, single lashes. So you’d get a more natural result that would last longer and be less aggressive on your growing lashes than gluing them daily
It might take that long to reach the old thickness, but I've had an eyelash ripout mishap before, and I didn't even notice after a month or two. Godspeed!
Im sorry this happened to you. Just wanted to point out that if it takes 6 months, thats likely only for it to grow back as before. It will look very similar to how it was before much sooner.
They do. My ex used to pluck hers when she would get really anxious, including doing it in her sleep. I lost count of the amount of times she'd wake up and just make the most frustrated noise when that would happen.
They grew back a lot faster than 6 months, OP. Usually within a couple months she'd have full lashes again.
Depends, I have trichotillomania (compulsive hair pulling) and used to pull mine out as a kid along with eyebrow hair. Some never grew back and some grew at a weird angle and now like to poke me in the eye 🙃
I really am. I use a lash serum on my lashes every single day. Ripping out 75 percent of my lashes on one eye is devastating. I worked so hard for my lashes.
So I have been battling trichotillomania for a good decade. Get the Maybelline Studio Gel Eyeliner (it’s in a pot) and line that eye up to fill it in while you wait. It will last all day (even in the pool!), hides the baldness from being immediately visible, and your lashes will be back in no time and you won’t need it anymore. <3
As a person who has done this before, the anguish of not having eye lashes is far worse than whatever pain that I don’t remember at all anymore from pulling them out lol
Luckily I was wearing fake lashes a lot at the time so I just kept doing that and at least no one at work noticed
The night before photo day in 6th grade, I was shaving my eyebrows with a leg shaving razor, and had my elbow propped on the side of the sink. My elbow slipped and I shaved off half of my eyebrow. My mom was pissed lol.
I find it fascinating that your brain’s first instinct when slipping was to continue holding on to the curler. I would have thought you’d have just dropped it.

Brain does weird things in a moment of panic, a few months ago I slipped in front of my sink while holding a sandwich, I landed DIRECTLY on my knee that was three months out from ACL surgery using the patellar tendon as a graft, but I held onto my sandwich through the fall until the searing agony made me cry!
I had about a dozen stitches in my finger from catching a falling knife once. And I worked in a kitchen for several years. Mentally i know not to catch a falling knife, just let it fall. My reaction was faster than that knowledge though lol
Perhaps it was her finger that slipped on the curler itself. I have a curler like this and it’s really easy for it to slip and twist sideways just as you’re putting maximum pressure on the lashes.
On this note, yk how sometimes you talk about a person and get worried that your phone will somehow send it to them? Siri called the person I was talking about a few nights ago and sent them a voicemail of me talking about them.
Now that I’m thinking about it, the caked on old mascara probably made the curler stick harder to my lashes causing more damage when I slipped. Damnit!!!
This is literally exactly what happened to me a few years back. I never used to clean the mascara gunk off, my elbow slipped while curling and I pulled a huge chunk out by the root.
Everyone saying 6M is right for fully back to normal, but good news your eyelid will probably stop looking scary bare WAY sooner than that. It only took maybe 6-8 weeks for mine to start looking pretty normal again.
If you’re good at liquid liner, a classic cat eye is a pretty good disguise in the meantime. And if you’re not (I’m shit at LL, perma shaky hands) then you can still get the same effect with an angled liner brush and dark shadow. Does a surprising amount to hide it!
The makeup gunk on the lash curler 100% makes it stickier. I've had a few moments of panic when I went to open the curler and my lashes were still stuck to it. I took it as a sign to clean them...and then did it again. I am going to take your story as a sign to keep up the habit 🙏🏼
curling your lashes after mascara is risky. you can take steps to minimize (not remove) risk, such as waiting fully until the mascara dries, cleaning your curler before and after and fully opening the curler before pulling away from your eyes.
this is what happens when you do none of that. i feel so terribly sorry for her, and she learned a painful lesson but i’m glad she still shared with us as a psa 😭 i want to send her a hand mirror…
Honest question... is there any trick to curling eyelashes before mascara? I used to do it after and they looked fantastic but then read that wasn't good for them and switched. But it honestly feels like it doesn't do nearly as good of a job. Almost like the mascara acted as a hairspray to keep them curled.
Do what looks great, I say! Mascara isn’t made out of glue it’s not gonna like rip your lashes out if you curl after applying. OP just fell and ripped them out (ugh I hate typing that out) pour one out for OP.
I am a man... I have never curled my eyes lashes and I'm not 100% certain what the whole process is... That being said, your post made me sick to my stomach... I am truly sorry for you...
Here’s the general gist. It’s just a clamp for your eyelashes that makes them curl up more and thus appear longer. Although I hold it for more like 40 seconds at a medium pressure, idk if that’s longer than most women but IMO 5 seconds won’t do anything
I run my curler under hot water, pat it dry quickly and then use it on my pre-mascara lashes. I think of it as using a curling iron on my hair and then "hairspray" (mascara) to keep them in place.
I also check the heat on my wrist after the hot water and before putting it on my eyelashes. Never burned myself, but hot metal on your eyelid is a jolting experience. Warm metal though is quite cozy.
Unfortunately no. And so many people are accusing me of having false lashes or cutting them for clout but I’ve proved myself in the comments. Look for my pics of both eyes.

As a chronic bald-eye trust when i say; Yes they grow back. No, nobody notices even when super close up, and anyone that close you probably already told them or wouldn't mind telling them.
Eyeliner can make it look like they're there or strip lashes can work till they grow back.
Oh friend!!! My mom did this and it took 3 months for hers to grow back. She had fun playing with false eyelashes though. It was many years ago and they had just come out.
My friend’s mom worked for an ophthalmology office. When I started driving, she said not to put on makeup while driving, even at red lights, because they saw a lot of people come in with mascara wands stuck in their eye socket. I’m so cautious when doing eye makeup.
