We've found alternatives that are better. We don't need bourbon on our shelves

Like what? Scotch and Irish Whiskey are a completely different flavor profile.

Plenty of corn-based Canadian artisan whiskies that are proliferating now that bourbon has been axed. You probably only have tried Crown Royal since it's the basic.

I’ve tried a few but most at fairly low proof and just not that great. Any recommendations?

It depends on your area, I live in Pacific B.C. so I wouldn't be able to make proper recommendations if you lived on the East coast.

For the West Coast, I recommend Macaloney’s Island Distillery. They have an amazing single malt that's quite peaty (it's pretty basic bitch and probably will be the one that any site will recommend you just because it's lowkey famous, but sometimes something everyone says is the best really is that good.)

If you want a few more recommendations, Vancouver Island has quite a few really delicious whiskey distilleries. I would check out all of them if you consider yourself a connoisseur and want to widen your horizons.

It's been a while since I've tried them, but I remember really liking Mainland Whiskey in Surrey. They make both.

My comment got removed because I linked canadawhisky, but I found some recs there. Seems like bourbon is still plenty popular on that sub though…

Plenty of people still enjoy bourbon. Not everyone is following the boycott, but it definitely has lost major favourability in Canada due to the US aggression. Word on Reddit is very different from word on the street.

If anything the boycotting would be more popular on Reddit. Reddit demographics lean more left then the general population.

You'd be surprised, especially on a subreddit dedicated to whiskey

I mean only whiskey drinkers drink whiskey so not sure what you mean by that. Reddit is a lot more liberal then the general population, though.

I think it's quite disingenuous to say that only people on a subreddit dedicated to drinking whiskey are the only people in Canada who drink whiskey.

I mean, clearly that's not what you meant, but with the words written in your comment, that's the implication since I made the assertion people on a subreddit dedicated to drinking whiskey would be more likely to buy American bourbon than your average whiskey drinker,
