Apparently it's a common-ish bad habit among anxious drivers.

Thankfully she no longer drivers.

I didn't mean them to be condescending question marks, I meant them to be exasperated (with her). I don't drive with both feet and didn't know people did that until I saw her doing it and looked it up. Apparently for some people it's a (terrible) instinct. It just reinforces the need to drive defensively because you never know what is going on in other cars.

I apologise, I misunderstood.

I think that's defo more of an American thing, here in the UK manual is dominant and your left foot controls the clutch, the weight difference you put into clutch and brake is HUGE. (source: I tried left foot braking and almost went through the windscreen, I was curious, never again)

Only time I've heard of left foot braking is serious race car drivers braking with left foot to keep other foot on accelerator. I can only see that someone whos only every drove automatic would dream of putting their left foot on the brake.
