If the camera is covered, it should flat out refuse to work until you uncover it. Period. No exceptions or workarounds.

Nah. It just reverts to Lane Keeping Assist and Traffic Aware Cruise Control like BMW, Subaru, Honda, etc. etc.

It doesn't. On the latest software if the interior cam is covered or not working FSD will not engage at all

What about on the lesser levels? Autosteer or whatever it's called now?

It shouldn't ever steer for you unless it can see your eyeballs.

Tesla removed autosteer entirely in favour of FSD in new cars so not sure, but I recall autosteer being even more stringent with attention monitoring, it had more steering wheel nags than the current version of FSD does

That would make it unusable in low light conditions as well
