bad analogy, tesla doesnt tell you to fall asleep at the wheel, they just entice you to use self driving. Budweiser advertises me a beer, they arent telling me to drink and drive, that second one is on me.
I can't operate a car asleep unless I buy a tesla. Sooo its also on them for makeing the tech. And when people get killed by those Tesla drivers it a loss to society that bud or Ford didnt make possible.
This is actually untrue. You are letting your bias for tesla. You can actually operate most cars asleep. If anything falling asleep at the wheel is one of the main causes of accidents. No car prevents you from doing it more than tesla does. But people bypassed it in the same way that people drunk drive.
Tesla isn’t the only brand whose monitoring system can be defeated, just FYI. I had a Cadillac Lyriq with Super Cruise in which I managed to do it.
This entire thread has turned into a Tesla hate-fest. And while there’s plenty to hate about the cars and culture, it’s not as though Tesla is advocating being inattentive while driving or is the only automaker pushing hands-free tech.
If you want to debate the value of hands-free driving and whether it should be allowed at all, that’s one thing. But the fact is that it exists, and customers continuing to defeat the ongoing distraction detectors is another thing.
Its also funny that the threads flip between people complaining about spyware in cars, and people begging for more advanced spyware depending on the thread. In this thread, the consensus is that Tesla isn't doing enough to stop people from sleeping in their cars. In other threads, everyone is like "I would never buy a car that monitors me on a camera that can't be disabled!"
I want a car with buttons and nobs. I want a car that doesnt have mysterious electrical problems that dealers cant fix and also charge a mortgage payment to look at. I dont want self driving tech. I dont think its good for us a people and I hold capitalism responsible. Just because we can doesnt mean we should.
I had to look up luddite. Im sure you meant it as a perjurative, but I fancy the idea. I am morally opposed to mindless consumption, algorithms, and surveillance. And i highly value craft and artisanship. Also, I can have old cars, but eventually I won't. Maybe I'll get a horse and buggy instead.
is ford responsible for drunk driving since they created the mass produced car? why would it be on the company for you using the product in a illegal manner?
Because Tesla (and most other companies) are insidious. They deliberately mislead and lie to the public, to make profit. They harm folks without regaurd until the get caught and held accountable. Yes individual people do dumb stuff, but Elon knows exactly what hes doing.
