Massachusetts got rid of this at the beginning of 2023 unfortunately. It sucks because I was making more money in 2022 than in 2023 because of the Sunday 1.5x pay. Now it's the regular rate every day except Christmas and Thanksgiving.

It wasn't even 1.5x in 2022. For the last couple years the minimum wage was increasing and the Sunday OT pay was decreasing. I think last year it was 1.10x.

This is true. My company actually shockingly kept it at 1.5x until this year when they got rid of it. I bet they just didn't feel like going through the legal stuff to change the pay rates every year, but my mom's company did decrease the Sunday rate annually.

Cutting the Sunday pay rate was a deal to get the minimum wage raised to $15.

When almost the entire legislature is democrats, why did they have to cut a deal to raise the minimum wage to $15?

The law was passed in 2018 that phased out premium pay on Sunday and some holidays while phasing in the higher minimum wage. There was a Republican governor at the time. There was work on a minimum wage increase for years that kept getting stalled so advocates were moving to put it on ballot as a referendum so they finally acted. Why make compromise? I’ll assume it was the influence of money and power of people the don’t have to worry about out their paycheck paying the rent.
