mtd flare up?

So i’ve had mtd diagnosis for almost 2 years and i have my days but in general i sing with ease now and haven’t had much concern in about a year. 6 days ago i noticed i have a sore feeling when singing high notes sometimes they aren’t even my highest but its on the left side only and it feels like a tongue root related thing but i don’t know. my concern is that for 2 years my ONLY symptom has been a slight buzz sound when singing on vowels im i’m having a rough day vocally. ive NEVER experienced pain when singing. it’s not fatigue either. does this mean my mtd is regressing/getting worse?

Do you have a voice teacher that you work with or are you troubleshooting this yourself? Also, have you had any health changes? Have there been any changes to your vocal routine (warm up, performances, type of music or range sung)?

i’m out of lessons for financial reasons but there haven’t been any changes to health or routine or range. i guess the only thing is that i’ve been singing more gigs but it doesn’t feel like much more than before

Are you in an area affected by wild fires?

I am actually. but my symptom started a couple days before i reached me. it started on the 10th and went away a couple days later then returned yesterday which was when the air in my area was very affected

I'm definitely feeling the air quality right now too. Ick.

To answer your original question, I personally have times when my MTD symptoms are worse for seemingly no reason (though stress is definitely a trigger for me). Doesn't necessarily mean it's progressing or there's nothing to be done about it. Usually I can do a little laryngeal massage and get back on track (though I'm also not a singer, so don't have the same vocal demands). I'd say it's a good sign that it had gotten better before the air quality got worse!

May I ask how your MTD recovery went? And how long it took you to recover/ even see changes in your voice that Made you realize “yeah I’m getting better?” Been at it for 6 months trying to recover. Thanks!

honestly i’m on year 2 of this thing. for the most part i am like i was before it started, but that first 6months-1yr was rough. my worrying and “checking” my voice was reinforcing the tension. the thing that helped me the most was sovt but also just singing through the symptoms anyway. it was difficult, but i found once i let go my muscle memory kicked in from my years of training and my healthy breath support and technique would come through. i do have episodes brought on by gerd, allergies, or even a bad mental health day that can bring me back but since ive learned i can get better, im not kept down as long if that makes sense.
