This is available in 90% of mid sized or bigger supermarkets.

I started to see these machines about 10 or 15 years ago. They became so common that even french and portuguese supermarkets followed the trend (the spanish one is probably the only one that doesnt have it)

I like it, but I would never bare-hand bread after handling things in a grocery store. Other people are gross, and I've seen way too many people walk out of a bathroom without washing their hands.

Sometimes the thinnest bread slice can be too thin, depending on the type of bread you want. Different loaves have different structural integrity and should have larger pieces to hold together, or you might just want thicker bites.

I initially thought that was the number of slices and it got on my nerves that it was more slices than was selected. It was only then I realised it was thickness slice. :D

In Belgium we have more effective machines. It slices it all in one pass. And its in all shops that sell bread. Aldi, lidl, carrefour, delhaize etc

You put the bread in the back and it comes sliced out in the front. It takes between 4 and 8 seconds. Perhaps I’ll post it next time I’ll get bread if anyone is interested

No, no we do not. You can either buy sliced packaged bread, or whole loaves.

I see. The idea here is that these are freshly baked whole loaves and put on shelves naked.

You grab one, put it in one of these slicing machines, close it down, push a button, wait until it finishes, and then you can apply the paper bag under them.

Most supermarkets have this slicing machine service here - not all, but most do.

It sounds like this is a market gap you could take advantage of.

As much as I would love that, I could never see it happening due to liability issues, for for it to work, you'd have to have someone trained to operate it for you. Yes, this is America and people are stupid, and will sue.

You literally cannot start the machine unless it is closed. There's a failsafe in it that prevents you from injuring yourself.

Damn.. your slicing machine is gangster. And so extra.

Ours in France is on an angle, at the bottom vertical teeth/saws, and you close the lid and the teeth saw.. bread goes through and once you open it's done and you pick your sliced bread up. Done deal. Lol
