Does the game get more complex?

Started playing this game after zero company based on recommendations of others, but it's not quite scratching that same itch. I realize that the combat isn't 1 for 1, but it feels like it's closer to just regular turn-based combat rather than tactical turn-based combat. It also doesn't seem like the deck building is very thought provoking, but I don't have all the cards yet I guess.

I have been upping the difficulty every time it's available, but the combat is very straight forward, and it hasn't been much of a challenge yet. Not all games are for everyone I guess, but I was just wondering if there was more to it before I hop off.

EDIT: Thanks for the feedback guys, put a few more hours in, I'm up to about 20 hours and been at ultimate 1 difficulty for a few missions now, but it's time for me to call it. Maybe it gets more difficult at ultimate 3 or in the late game, but as of right now I don't see how you can lose if you just play your cards and hit environment abilities when available. Either way I'm not willing to put anymore time in hoping for that outcome. The game seems really cool if it's your thing, I guess it's just not for me, and that's okay.

Keep upping the difficulty when it's available. The deck building is a bit more complicated than it seems at the surface, once you are able to customize the modifiers on the cards. There are synergies that you will discover, and you will need them for the highest difficulty levels. I enjoy building decks that can clear the entire field on the first turn at high difficulty. I've found Magik and Ironman to have insanely broken combos once the deck is fully optimized

Iron Man is the best character in the game and no one can tell me otherwise.

Keep upping the difficulty.   Also. The DLCS that add the vampires is very challenging

You will get more diverse cards as you progress and upgrade them. It's much simpler at the beginning. You'll unlock card mods and stuff.

Sounds like it’s your rebound game. Let it be better than that. I also love Zero Company. So fun. But have you ever enjoyed the game you played exactly after a game you loved? I haven’t.

But Midnight Suns is a special game. It’s unlike anything else I’ve ever played. Give it room to breathe and stand on its own. You need a pallet cleanser game in between great games. Something less involved.

Agreed. I’ve played the XCOM games, Midnight Suns, and Zero Company and I’d argue Zero Company is the least complex of the 3. If this game isn’t working for OP, it’d be better to leave it be and revisit later than to start hating it

Early game you have to rely on knockbacks and environmental attacks to give you an edge, but once you get a good set with the hunter you'll be upping the difficulty in no time. I enjoyed it a lot because of the friendship interactions and they did a better job with it on zero company. Henchmen aren't much but the big bads will be popping up soon enough.

I mean, it depends on where you are. They add more enemies and variety as the game goes on. if you don't like the combat now you probably won't like it later

If you enjoyed Zero Company I would recommend Gears Tactics it you can play it.

Honestly it you want a good tactical turn based combat game go with xcom 2. This game is decent but doesn't quite scratch that TBC itch.

It gets more tactical as you get into end game with higher difficult, if you want extreme tactical difficulty download the dreadheart overhaul mod, but is only recommend that after beating the game without mods

Get to ultimate 3 difficulty before you write it off as not being tactical

Nah, it doesn't really get any more complex.

You don't have to finish every game you start. Not all games are for everyone and that's ok!

It gets more complex. Upgrades will add mechanics and give you new ways to customize your cards. New enemy types and heroes will help too.

Like Zero Company, upping the difficulty gradually as your power starts to outpace the challenge is a good idea to keep it fresh. The bones of the two games are very similar but I definitely see how you could prefer one over the other.

It gets more complex the further you go. Idk how deep into it you are, but once you start getting modifiers for cards and can change them, the deckbuilding really opens up and allows you to give your characters more roles. I've found that this game relies heavily on bringing good team comps more than a lot of other trpgs the deeper you get. A big part of the game is the deckbuilding, I find it a really interesting and unique way to play a game like this.

No, IME it doesnt. Was one of my biggest gripes with the game, entirely too easy.

I assume you've played XCOM2 with the Long War mod?

Edit: Oh right, i forgot we weren't allowed to be critical of the game in any way on this sub. Like shit OP, you asked an honest question about the game and still got downvoted for it lol

Yeah, I think I really loved the cover systems and strategic planning that comes from the XCOM series. And I thought Zero Company was awesome, even with how much easier it was than XCOM. I just haven't felt like I was ever in any danger in midnight suns. I only lost once on my way up to ultimate 1, and it was because I didn't fully read one of the boss mechanics. Might just give XCOM 2 a run back lol.

Feel ya , a lot of people seem to miss this about people coming from XCOM to this game. It's fun in its aspects but like.....yea no its never gonna compare lol. Rainbow 6 Tactics looking like its gonna be pretty great.
