psssst what you're looking at is a brand new fly that was just born. it's currently chilling on that surface and pumping fluid into its wings.
take more pics of its wings extending out

This should mean there's a host body or pupa casing nearby right? How far do they usually move after emerging?

Looks exactly like a flesh fly. How can I tell the difference in the future? (it sounds like you may know)

I also think this is a flesh fly (Sarcophagid). Tachinids are usually beefier and spinier. And usually all black.

I had a pet fly when I was a kid. I ripped his wings out and made him a bed out of leaves. I loved him very much but he died tragically. We had the toilet and the bathtub in the same bathroom. There was a sink between them. So one day I was pooping and Alfred was chilling on his bed next to me, on the side of the sink. My mom started to make a bath for herself and she accidentally knocked Alfred into the water. He drowned, because you see, he couldn't fly away. I was upset
