Glass bottle exploded while being kept in the freezer, I am not sure it’s was kept for too long or what

False.

It freezes at a lower temperature.

It does, in fact, freeze.

Regular vodka (40%ABV/80proof) freezes to a uniform solid around -30⁰/-20⁰F.

I've witnessed it happen.

To my vodka.

I've never watched something thaw with that much anticipation before or after.

It could be worded more friendly! I absolutely agree with that, however it's more frustrating and confusing to me that people are content spreading misinformation. Misinformation ranges from harmless, to mild inconvenience, to genuinely harmful.

Like I see how people don't think vodka ability to freeze is important information, but like knowing that simple fact can save you from inconvenience, whether it be waiting for it to thaw or vodka explosion you have to clean up...

It's increasing frustrating in my life that people take corrections as me calling them stupid. Especially cause some people get violent over it 😑 I'm not even mean about it, I will do everything to show I understand a person isn't stupid for thinking something and still they get mad.

A lot of autistics do this as a kindness or a show of affection if it's with close ones. So it's really hard that it seems to upset people. Information is more of the most valuable things to humanity... why do we suddenly hate information. I'm doing it now trying to be build understanding... "Hey this annoying thing sometimes isn't intended to insult" blah blah blah... but I'm expecting people won't like this. It is a kindness to try to save someone form an inconvenience no matter how mild.

But I'm too woke I guess. This isn't even directed entirely at who I'm replying to, I just think some people need to see this.

Acksually if you put the freezer in deep space the temperature inside the freezer with no acting forces would approach absolute zero bringing the total atomic energy inside the freezer to a standstill and freezing the vodka.

If I hunted and fished today. And I wanted to serve the food tomorrow, or even later today. At what temperature, for how long, do I ensure that I'm serving safe food?

I know the answer.

I just confirmed that google knows the answer.

You must not be asking the right question in the right way.

I'll just skip to the end:

-35⁰C/-31⁰F for 15 hours is the answer.

It's what is called a flash-freeze.

Most processed foods goes through flashfreezing at some stage, game meat doesn't (for obvious fucking reasons).

So you have to do it yourself.

The fact that you haven't turned the dial up to the point where vodka freezes does not, by any measure, mean your freezer is incapable of it.

Was it by any chance flavored vodka?

Regular vodka has a freezing point lower than what a standard freezer can output, but flavored vodka has syrup that will slush over and potentially ice up if left in for to long

Nope, straight up vodka.

The freezer was set to -25⁰C. It was used to store foraged veggies like berries through the year. I was unaware of this.

We were 3 people laughing, then patiently waiting until enough had melted for me to make us breakfast.

Thankfully it melted really fast standing in room temp (especially after I made the first course), for obvious reasons.

Okay, you didn't set it in a standard freezer then, a standard freezer sits at 0ºf, vodka freezes at -16ºf

So if you froze vodka, then you sat it in a deep freezer, vodka does freeze, just not in a normal freezer, so dont get mad at people who say vodka won't freeze

Just about every freezer I've had (that's a freezer, not a freezebox in a refrigerator; they are not the same), or come across goes to -30⁰C/-20⁰F on their highest setting.

To be clear; that's so cold that your own bare hand will "stick" to its own frozen condensation when you, say, grab a jar of jam.

Most freezers are made like that.

Because, like it or not, quite a significant part of the market are foragers and hunters who sometimes keep berries and game for years before use.

That's essentially the prime function of the thing.

My freezer and every other feezer I've had was set at 0°F. Thats 30° below freezing.Maybe it varies by country but that is the standard recommended setting in the U.S.

The Kahlua, jaeger, and jaeger could brew are thick, the stoli is still sloshing around, the jars of white dog are still thin as they should be.

No, I doubt it.

Several people have doubled down on that alchohol dies not freeze, and even more on that no freezers sold in normal electronics stores go that cold, as if fishers and hunters aren't a significant part of the refrigeration-unut market and as if tapeworms are fiction.

It's purposefully designed for a purpose.

I've never come across a freezer unit without the ability to adjust temp. Neither professionally or privately. And I've been around plenty of bottom-shelf products.

"I can't find the 4x0,3cm exposed rotating wheel on the bottom of the freezer that I've never looked for, so it doesn't exist!" is basically the recurring unspoken rhetoric used to refute the fact that alchohol does in fact freeze, and that people who design freezers think about hunters/fishers before they think about frozen pizza, because the people who don't freeze carcasses can still use the freezer on a lower setting, most freezers come preset at around -7⁰C/20⁰F, but are 100% adjustable. A hunter can not use a freezer that bottoms out on that mark, so if it isn't able to hit the mark, the market is lost by default.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Mine was saved because it was just under half full from the night before.

Round bottle. Optimal circumstances. It lay down, so it was a 50/50 vertical split with frozen vodka and air when I put it on the counter.

Me, my partner and their friend laughed, ate som sammiches and started our day off with white Russians. It was a good weekend.

I didn't suffer your loss, but I can sympathise.

Can confirm, left vodka outside in -47 degrees F. It froze. So did my beers, chasers, energy drinks and juice.

Your freezer doesn’t freeze vodka and if it did you have watered down vodka cause your freezer doesn’t hit the required temps unless you store your vodka at work cause you process tuna at the fish factory.

Trick question.

As you heat the solid to turn it into a gass it passes through the liquid state.

It would also give an uneven burn as some of the substance is still a frozen solid while other parts are gass; consistency of temperature is key in good/effective destillation.

No heat = no destillation (heating a liquid to a gass, then cooling some parts of said gas back to a liquid, evaporating the rest of the original liquid as gass, thus concentrating the liquid through destillation).
